Thanks for this video, I was curious about this build especially after talking to an individual who did the swap and how little work and investment it is for big power like this. Kudos
Stage 3 stuff would considered a big turbo. Is20 and is38 are still just bolt on OEM upgrades. 2+ obviously there specific files for each turbo though.
I have done 90k miles on this same 1.8tsi ea888 gen 3 engine...it is on apr stage 1 for 20k miles no issues...perfect condition and im thinking upgrade it to smaller oem turbo is20 from 7.5gti...is it worth on 90k miles car...?
No real reason not too. 90k miles is not a lot these days, and the motor holds up very well. Now, I would replace PCV and a few other regular maintenance pieces just for longevity. But I would hesitate doing a is20.

I just traded my Alltrack in about 9 months ago for a gladiator and now I’m kicking myself!! Might have to pick up a used one now🤦🏼♂️ is your car a dsg? I had a manual but you’ll need to upgrade the clutch correct?
Yeah, the manuals would need to get a upgraded clutch. Most likely a stage 2 daily or endurance. This one is a DSG, easy to commute in and painless up keep.
Depending on how many miles you have on your car, you might want some new mounts. But the IS38 is fine with stock mounts, just put a dog bone insert in. I didn't get upgraded BFI mounts until I went big turbo and made 150+whp over this setup.

Just caught this video. Did John share what was updated in your 2+ file? I did an is38 and Unitronic 2+ in my 4mo Sportwagen last April. I guess I could just plug in the computer and see if there's a new file...
My file was on my car well before it was released, when the video was actually made I was already over 30k miles on it. I'm not sure if any changes were really made as there aren't a bunch of revisions loaded on the server. If so small tweaks, as it's performed well with absolutely zero issues at all.
Thnx for the video... I'm looking to get an all track myself... what's your recommendation for lowering it just like yours? and what wheels are those and tire size? Please thnx they look SWEET AF!!! 🤑
The suspension is a Solowerks VW012 kit, with some Rotiform FLG wheels. Tires are a bit small, but I'm also slammed with zero rubbing on a 225/35-19. I can help out with wheels and suspension once you pick one up.
@@sher.ts.604 No everything is stock, screws are still in there, no rolling etc. Only mod was actually the rear, .5 degree camber. Under heavy canyon carving the wheel lip would rub slightly on the inside of the plastic lips. So I cut those down for better clearance. But a rear trailing arm bushing upgrade eliminated that completely.
@@darekm6859 It's not the normal run of the mill, my custom setup is a shorter spring. Runs pretty soft, if it was a hard ride my wife wouldn't bother getting in. Big difference from linear and progressive springs when it comes to comfort. If I do go a half in lower, it will ride like a brick.
At what mileage does it not make sense to do these kinds of upgrades. I have a four year old '17 Alltrack with 78k miles on it. Most of it highway miles out West.
I have a 6 & 9 year old, so two car seats in the back. I'm over 60k and beating the piss out of my car every time I get in it. Only thing I've done is maintenance and change a PVC. These motors will go, and keep going. I wouldn't worry about how many miles as long as you keep up with basic maintenance. Do it now and enjoy it.
@@edbrenegar679 Very nice! This upgrade that I showcased isn't over stressing the motor or pushing the limits. Very tame and linear, making it very consistent.
its saying on their website that their stage 2+ makes 352 hp. im thinking about picking up an alltrack and using this kit but was wondering why you didnt make over 300 whp?
The DAP guys saw 250ish on Unitronic's own dyno with an is38 (with a 'corrected' 351...). is38 + Uni 2+ is still a great drop in and go setup. My is38 4mo Sportwagen is a riot.
I have been driving VWs since 1972 and GTIs and my Corrado VR6 since 1983. But in 2017 I got my wife an Alltrack. I liked it a lot and didn't want a GTI with 4 doors, so I bought myself a Golf Sportwagen. I got APR on my 2006 GTI and it is quite fast. But I have no motivation to make either of our VW station wagons faster. If I wanted that I would have got a GTI or Golf R.
To each his own for sure, this is my 40th plus VW, it's a passion. I have two car seats in the back if you notice, the Golf R doesn't cut it with two kids. It's a Golf R little brother with the Haldex. Besides, still saved money over the R, all this still under $25k with the car purchase.
@@SOLOWERKSUSA I fully agree. Given the cost of Alltracks and AWD Sportwagens, the Golf R is marked up way too much. Beyond the money the real deal killer for me is the Golf R doesn't have a spare tire while Alltracks and Sportwagens fit a full size space. We use our vehicles for traveling.
My Alltrack looks almost exactly like yours (besides my wheels), I just hopped on the IS38 bandwagon and boy do I love it!
Cool to see an Alltrack cranking out some solid power. I love a good sleeper car. Hope you continue the build on this!
Stay tuned as will have additional videos coming out shortly, currently editing.

AHAHAHA dad wagon… it’s so true 😅🤟🏼🏴☠️ I’m in!!! Got a red one! I’m gonna boost it right away!
I’m unfamiliar with AWD car dynos. Is the haldex disabled in dyno mode?
Yeah there is a dyno mode that turns off the Haldex to run 2wd. Some of the guys use a switch, which you may see on the RS3 platform.
Whats your suspension setup?
What do you do for passing CA smog?
How come you're running Stage 2+ on the IS38 and not the Stage 3? I thought the Stage 2 was for the IS20? Cheers!
