Here in Utah, where BoardCo is based, the number of Malibu’s on the water is insane (close to 33% of regional market share if I’m not mistaken). Pretty sure that’s why the comparison is the way that it is
We try to compare Centurion to a variety of boats in the market. See here for a comparion against Mastercraft as well: ua-cam.com/video/jSNAcIawt9Q/v-deo.html&pp=ygUYY2VudHVyaW9uIHZzIG1hc3RlcmNyYWZ0
Mitch breaking it down again! Can you speak to the MB B52. They pack 5200 lbs. of ballast, have a great bull shape with a decent deep V-shape (I believe it’s an 16° dead rise, not quite Centurions), and run tabs and a center plate. It seems as though their waves would be very comparable to Centurion is height, shape, angle, length, and so some extent power (though they don’t displace as much water, being lighter in the water)? Would the shape be classified as “independent” as well due to their similar characteristics. I tested a number of boats and found that my favorite waves were the Centurion and the MB. The Ri 245 was hands down the best wave. Malibu, Natique, Mastercraft, Moomba were okay, but I didn’t prefer them for many of the characteristics you described here, which I would agree with your classifications. MB was excellent, and I would say better than a 237 and 257, but not as good as a 245 or 265. Strictly for price, I went with a 2018 MB B52 even though a 245/265 would be my top pick.
Thanks for the comment! We agree - MB puts out a solid wave and you could make a strong argument that it is second to what is generated by a Centurion / Supreme. The reason we don't speak nearly as much about MB is that they are a much smaller manufacturer with limited production and don't have dealer representation in most areas. There are a lot of smaller brands we don't talk about much for a similar reason - Sanger, Helix, Pavati, Varatti, etc.
I appreciate the knowledge and detail shared. I do wish you had talked more about MB. I feel like MB is often avoided in BoardCO mateial because it shares a lot of the advantages that Centurion has. When we purchased our last boat, we were down to Centurion, MB and Supra. I appreciate things about each of them and think if you throw in Malibu, they are the best of the best surf waves.
I’m going to disagree with you on the Nautique wave. My G23 has plenty of power and size, it’s very firm in my opinion. I agree with you it’s steep. My boating group has a Xstar MasterCraft and a Tige. I’ve spent plenty of time behind all of them.
I’m curious how much weight you would add to a Mastercraft x24 to get that longer wave you’ve talked about. 1000lbs?
We have never done it so we are not sure if it would work, but I imagine somewhere between 1500-2000 lbs would improve the wave.
Malibu must be BoardCo’s biggest competitor. Crazy how many times the comparison is to a Malibu (not MasterCraft etc)
