the idea of the world's most beloved violin sonata transcribed for double bass raises the question "is this really possible on such a massive, unwieldy instrument?" The answer is a resounding "yes!" This a terrific performance, and not just "for being a bass," but one of the best performances of this work I've heard anywhere!

It’s really great, and sounds great on the double bass (in the right hands). Now we can add others such as Mikyung Sung also with fantastic performances. (Bozo having been a pioneer in showing what was possible.) It may help that it’s possible that Franck may have thought of this first for cello before getting the commission from Ysaye. It really is sort of more celloistic than violinistic I think, which is probably why it works so well on bass.
