I'm a KU/Big 12 fan. It would be great if Clemson and FSU come to the Big 12. But, they shouldn't get any more money than the rest. And if they "want" to be in the Big 12 only. We had to put up with Oklahoma and Texas thinking they were too good for the Big 12. We don''t need more of that.

You know I felt that way as a WVU fan but then I thought. What if we got them in with unequal revenue for this contract and when the renegotiation happens we put a look in to base the shares on performance ? Then it’s if you win you get more. Everyone not just them. Why not ? I mean there would have to be limits so that budgets wouldn’t fluctuate that much but an extra 10 mil cause you went to the playoffs ? Why not ?

Saw a lot of talk about FSU going Indy for a few years. BYU spent over $30M in start-up costs just to be independent plus they spent extra every year on athletics. Notre Dame has the backing of the church as did BYU with LDS. FSU doesn't have that kind of tie in for financial backing. Not sure about the financial health of FSU, but that seems like a tall order for any school not named Notre Dame in current times. Probably better to go to a conference even for a few years than spend money you don't have on being independent.

No way this happens! Just don't believe it. Only way we can pay FSU and Clemson what they're asking is if the Big 12 has promotion/relegation where the "Premier" teams get extra money from the "1st Division" teams who get G5 money (based on 20 team league split in two).
How this affects basketball... I dunno.

    • @bradparnell614
      @bradparnell614 Місяць тому

I agree it doesn't happen but FSU for basketball would depend on what coach they get after Leonard Hamilton. He's had some really great teams but at 76 (thought he doesn't look it) he has slowed down quite a bit and probably won't be having such good teams in the near future. Brad Bronwell has had some decent teams at Clemson of late but nothing like threatening Final Fours on a regular basis.

In 42 years covering CFB, I have never thought the B1G was begging ND for admission. Extreme liberal state universities and Notre Dame? I never bought it. More competition for Midwest athletes. I never saw the Great Lake 7 being convinced getting the Uber religious Irish in their fold was likely. If ND could have had that ACC deal with the B1G, why didn't it?
Now, I agree the main reason the IRISH do not want a Big12 hook either is money, and culture. But at least the Big12 is an open minded conference (Baylor, Brigham Young). Notre Dame might fit in better than people think. BYU is an extremely prestigious university like ND. Point is however, in the end the Big12 is good right now. Maybe it's enough. Maybe FSU and Clemson become a available. Who knows. Let's see what happens if ESPN pulls the ACC's 💵 IV. That's when we will find out the truth And future for all of major college football.

Honestly, FSU and Clemson might be much better for the Big12 if the ACC contract ends. ESPN would have millions to redirect to a conference ESPN can design. You dump say 9-11 ACC teams and move that cash over to a bigger but now wealthier Big12. I could see both ESPN and getting on board with that idea and it would likely lift all Big12 boats by another $8-12mm.

@@TheYates27 I also think that FSU and Clemson are not enamored with the idea of joining leagues that it believes have a lot of perceived equals in the main revenue sports. Being in the ACC has been fine for having the ability to produce wins. It's the lack of money and opportunity that is the problem.
Playing in the Big 12 will not be a lateral financial move. It also played before somewhat bigger stadiums than most ACC venues.ACC basketball has declined in recent years. It is as if the Big12 is up and coming whereas the ACC is just old and it's majority programs small. I would hate to see Louisville over Georgia Tech. That rivalry with FSU and Clemson is great plus Atlanta vs Louisville...no contest.
But overall I believe the fans at Clemson and FSU would get a far better welcome into the Big12 than into either the SEC or B1G. The SEC doesn't want more of Florida and South Carolina. The B1G would like to go south on paper, but not without each school being worth a gross $80-100mm/year.
If the Big12 took four schools, I would go for markets first, where the graduate 👀s reside...
      FSU (gouge the deep South)
Clemson (gouge the South Atlantic region)
Georgia Tech (get Atlanta, plus another national fan base)
VA Tech (get the mid Atlantic from So Delaware to North Carolina)

If Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina, Virginia, Louisville, and Miami joined the Big 12 I could see the Big 12 getting $65 million per school and with Yormark getting the Big 12 more money for basketball the payout per school could be an additional $15-$20 million more! This would make the payout per Big 12 school on par with the SEC and the B1G! Who knows, within a few years, if a few of the Big 12 schools win the national titles in football and basketball the payouts for the Big 12 could be even higher than the SEC and B1G since the Big 12 is already the best conference in basketball and it’s not that far off from the SEC and the B1G in football with the additions of Clemson, Florida State, Miami, and Louisville! I think with the additions of these new schools the future for the Big 12 would take off like crazy! Way more than the SEC and the B1G because this conference has a bunch of schools that are very good in both football and basketball unlike the SEC and the B1G that are very top-heavy with 3-4 schools in those conferences dominating all of the other schools in football and not many of them are top basketball schools! I hope Clemson and Florida State would see the potential of the Big 12 and not think they have to join the SEC or the B1G in order to make a lot of money! Plus, if they joined the Big 12 they would automatically become the top alpha dogs in the conference, but if they joined the SEC or the B1G they could find themselves burried in the depth charts behind schools like Alabama, Georgia, OU, Ohio State, Michigan, and USC just like Arkansas and Nebraska are right now since they have joined the SEC and the B1G respectively!

No feasible path that ends with UNC in the BIG12. Most likely only FSU.

Sankey is absolutely a hypocrite and a pathological liar. That’s what he’s paid for. He’s just better at it than most.

Yormark is a huckster. Private equity is selling your soul to the devil. Good luck with that.

@@ronon3849 Yormark selling a PE deal reminds me of hot new g-friend that gets you to live off of credit cards. You travel to nice places, update the wardrobe, and have a wonderful time. Nevertheless, the cards get maxed, the girl moves on, and now you can barely make the debt payments.
I can see BY getting all the praise or upfront benefits but be long gone when the piper arrives. Assuming FSU/CLEMSON were pulled, they would have depreciated down to average value, and the BIG12 schools will have to compete on G5 level distributions after the investors get their cut.
Such an "all or nothing" play may work, but that's a big risk.
