  • Andre Venter was a machine. He was the fittest player in the Springbok teams he played in and he never gave anything less than 100% on the field.
He was a big man, with great speed and was also a very good line out option. He is one of the greatest Springbok flanks of all time and should be remembered as the legend that he is.
    Enjoy and thanks for watching!

Venter was one of the best back-row forwards of his generation. He and Erasmus were an incredible duo.

I feel so many south african rugby players are underrated from this era of the mid to late 90s because they aren't top coaches or work in TV at least in the North. This guy was fast for his size or at least had very good acceleration.

Another fabulous watch. As a Province fan in those days Venter actually escaped my radar and I didn't really know who he was when he was selected in 1996 but boy, oh boy, it did not take long for me to take notice! What a beast of a player he was. Can't help but wonder what we might have done in 98/99 if he wasn't sacrificed at the Bobby Skinstad altar!

My favourite Venter moment was when he schooled Robbie Fleck. Fleck kicked at his face IIRC, so Venter just pinned and punched Fleck into submission.

For a very big fella, to be able to play 7s as he did - and to be an such a force in the 15 man game at second row, No8 and loose forward, is some talent.
