  • This is a 2003 Jinma 224 tractor that had a hard time starting and would not hold a prime. It had little power. I could not find anything on how to remove the injector pump so I made this video to help others. It is a 3 cylinder diesel.

I have a Jinma 254 which I bought new about 8 years ago. The injector/pump died and I bought a new one from Keno Tractors in Oregon. I successfully replaced the unit, but I began by removing the radiator and that gave a lot more room to work. I marked the alignment of the engine and timing gears with a marker pen before I pulled the injector/pump. A center punch mark would have been better. After I replaced the unit the timing is a bit off, I get a bit of clatter from the engine but I believe I can fix that by rotating the injector/pump after loosening the three mounting bolts. During this reassembly all the fuel hoses started to leak after being moved around. I just cut the banjo off the ends and used fuel pipe from NAPA with hose clamps. Much cheaper and it worked well. The return line had about four connections so it was a tedious job but successful.

what did you end up doing to get it timed?

I want to know what the spring loaded weights are that come out with the timing gear? What purpose do they serve? I had issues getting them back in right. Finally I said the hell with them. The tractor runs just fine without them. But their purpose has me curious.
