I'm a grown-ass man and I can hardly watch these shows with Roi without crying. It's TOTALLY irrational how much I miss him.
Irrational doesn't mean not understandable. You simply have a greater amount of empathy than most other men. LeRoi was a huge loss to his family and friends but to the world as well. I feel the same about Kurt Cobain. It's hard to imagine what magic he would have written if not for heroin and a gun.
It is still amazing to me...I was introduced to the DMB doing spin classes back in the day...like...over 20 years ago. Today, amidst covid, and balding...the music is better and more timeless than ever. Now the world is spinning either on a peloton, or, on a bike they've dusted off from the garage. That's the definition of timeless.
Long. Black. Veil. - what an outstanding version. Daves vocals are absolutely perfect and of course Leroi is incredible, laid back, and smooth as hell. What a musician he was what a loss. I miss him and his beautiful live music so much.

This was the first DMB cd I had, I can't believe I get to see Carter's solo in The Song That Jane Likes (best version ever for me) I used to play this song on the drums so much... love it!!! Also KitKatJam I wanna see that one too.
In the beginning of TSTJL, there is a moment where all the band members are listing and looking at each other, and there all thinking “Dam we are awesome”......But awesome doesn’t even describe how awesome this band was, is, and always we’ll be.
I just love the way Jeff and Rashwan play, but god, how I miss LeRoi!

That violin solo in Lie in Our Graves
Carter can change it up better than any drummer than I've ever seen period. Go hard, go slow, change instruments all on the go and he can stay with them. He is awesome. No wonder Dave will part with some, but never him. And frankly, not knowing them, I don't think Carter would either. He's the wisest of people of knowing he has a good thing, why fuck it up. The hard part for every musician is staying with everyone, and in the modern band that falls to the drummer and he is always there to pick it back up when you fuck up....Gawd love the great drummer. Last I checked, there wasn't a dude in a tux waving a wand in the majority of concerts for the last few decades.
Does someone know why isn't Butch playing anymore?
He struggled with life on the road and wanted to be a better family man for his wife and family

He’ll be be back before 2028 I’ve already put my bet in with vegas.
Boyd had a great stage presence that worked perfectly live. The unique blend of his violin and Leroi's horns/woodwinds was one of the main contributing factors that made DMB. But Boyd was and maybe still is a mediocre musician who's position in the band could have been filled by anyone. He more or less did what he was told (musicly) and contributed nothing creatively. So once he started having issues on and off the stage, it was only a matter of time. I could go on on give examples, but I really enjoyed his enthusiasm at shows so instead I'll just say that it's not just an issue of forgiveness. Even if everything that happened were to be forgotten, it still would never work for many more reasons primary concerning musicianship.

I've liked Dave for quite a few years now but never thought of his group as a Jazz band. After listening to this concert he is on a par with Quincy Jones, Spyro Gyro and Crusaders. Pure jazz at its finest. Thanks for posting.
If you saw DMB from 1996-2004 you were their for the peak and the glory days. This is one of those shows and moments 🙌🔥 glad to have this in the vault.

I think I have watched/listened to maybe a 5-10 total hours of DMB over the 15 years, but just came across this video of my second show and am transfixed. Only really remembered the PNP -> Rapunzel opener, Seek Up (holy s***) and the Watchtower closer, but am completely transfixed.
Had 10 row tickets to this one thru Warehouse - couldn’t afford the plane ticket out :-( broke in college

when dave had amazing setlists every show. This weekend at spac was a joke. I’m a big Dave fan and Night one literally had a good 45 minutes extra of banger songs. 5 songs i counted in my opinion. Not everyone has the time or 300 bucks to see him on the lawn two nights in a row unfortunately (and yes that is what it would be with parking, food, drinks, tickets, gas etc) i always get shafted by the other night
I’ve been going to the gorge since 2004. Was at spac this year too. It was a great time. If you make it about setlists, you’re gonna have a bad time for the remainder of their career.

This editor sucks. You need to cut it less. And don’t show snippets of areas you wouldn’t see “IF” you were there. I’m never looking over the concert like a drone shot if I am in the crowd. Stay on solos by the band. And cut to being in the crowd looking at the stage and then behind you.
