I appreciate that you avoided prejudice in your presentation. I love Monty Python as much as anyone, but I’ve seen too many “Pop-Sci” presenters fall into the temptation toward cynicism and snobbery in dealing with these fascinating topics.

You might remember George McGovern, was a B-24 pilot during WW2. In his autobiography he tells of a failed bombing run, when returning they would dump their bombs where they could. On this mission one of the bombs became stuck in the rack inside the bomb bay. One of the crew went back and kicked it free from the plane. That one bomb as he describes it, landed on a farm house in Italy and couldn’t have been a better placed bomb. This one event kept him awake many nights for decades, wondering if he had killed a family or not. Many years later when he was doing an interview on a radio show, he told of this story and low and behold , I believe it was the son who lived in that house recognized the situation and contacted George. Everything was fine, no one was injured but a cow or a goat if I remember. This is one of the stories that will forever be stuck in my memory.

The relationship between humans and "humanized animals" resurrected in the entertainment industry during the baby boom. We had Francis - the talking mule, Mr. Ed - the talking horse, Flipper - the dolphin. Lassie - the collie, Morris - the cat, and both Warner Brothers and Disney gave voices to many other animals before Television Era arrived. The medieval mentality is still alive and well today.

From Covenant Presbyterian Church websiteWhy a Pelican
Carved into the front of our pulpit is one of the most ancient symbols of Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross. Often referred to as “the pelican in her piety,” this symbol offers a vivid picture of how Christ’s death brings us life: a mother pelican, during a time of famine, will pluck her breast to feed her young with her blood. As a church, Christ’s stunning grace is not only front-and-center in our sanctuary but, more importantly, in our lives. The image of the pelican serves as a frequent reminder that we are deeply rooted in God’s grace so that we might reach out with God’s love.
This church is near THG in Missouri.

But christ did not die on a cross. It was a stake. Cross is a transliteration of the greek word of a single beam being called a cross. Such a simple falsehood that blinds much of the Christian population today

Eagles live more or less all over the world. But the bald eagle, the U.S. national symbol, lives only in North America (including Canada and Mexico as well as the U.S.).
It’s worth noting that Benjamin Franklin opposed adopting the bald eagle as a symbol, on the grounds that it has bad moral character. He noted that eagles eat carrion, and steal from other birds. He said they are cowardly, too, inasmuch as smaller birds can often chase a bald eagle out of an area.

This reminds me of something: The area i come from has a cote of arms with a total imaginary creature on it. But the coat of arms is almost the same since at least 1160. And the description or motto (for a lack of a better term) that comes with it would translate to "Nobody should dare to provoke/tease the styrian panther, because fire comes out of his mouth and his behind." The only thing that was ever changed at it was that due to a female politician in 1926 the fire coming out of the behind and the crotch had to be removed because she convinced enough idiots that this was obscene... So today one can distinguish if the coat of arms was done before that or after.

I read a book early this year for which you should make a video, "The Trials of Maria Barbella" by Idanna Pucci. It's the story of a poor, illiterate, Italian immigrant girl who after being raped and ending up pregnant murdered her rapist in April of 1895. Maria's case went to trial and she ended up on death row, first housed in the notorious Tombs in NYC and then Sing Sing Prison in New York state. Maria was the first woman scheduled to die in the newly invented electric chair. NYPD's Lt Joseph Petrosino also played a key part of the story as well as a rich American socialite who was married to an Italian Count (Idanna Pucci's grandmother) who took up Maria Barbella's cause celebre. I believe your subscribers would enjoy hearing your take on this story.

I remember the Mythbusters testing out wheter elephants were actually afraid of mice.
They simply hid a mouse in a hollowed out elephant dung and pulled a string that released it when the pachiderm walked by.
And they actually hesitate when the mouse walks by!
It's not fear. They just stop and step around the rodent as to not smush the small creature with their 1 ton steps.

Oh, I love beneficiaries! Did quite a bit of work on them in school, even did a seminar with Debra Hassig. I especially liked the birds. My kids liked the name of the Hoopoe, and would run around chanting "HOOPoe! HOOPoe!" I also liked the Yale, which looks a lot like a gazelle, but it can move it's horns around and make them point different directions! Great fun to read!

One of the most popular in its day is "The Book of Secrets of Albertus Magnus Of the Virtues of Herbs, Stones, and Certain Beasts, Also a Book of the Marvels of the World." It is available in translation and in print (Weiser). The Little Albert was widely distributed before Gutenburg, which is an achievement in itself. Some beautiful examples of bestiaries are of special interest to the history of cryptography as the text is entirely written in ciphertext. The most famous of these is the Voynich Manuscript.

The four Evangelists (the traditional authors of the four Gospels) are very frequently represented as animals: An ox or bull stands for Luke, a lion (often a winged lion) for Mark, an eagle for John, and a human (or, alternately, an angel with wings) for Matthew. You can see these symbols in a great many churches.
It must be said that this symbolic scheme has many variations, though. Some of them are listed here:

The idea of elephants being afraid of mice comes from Indian folklore, which must have been brought back to Europe from the spice trade. Ganesha, the elephant-headed god, rides upon the back of a giant mouse as an allegory for the act of overcoming one's greatest fears.
