The David Goldman Program nurtures Israel's Outstanding Young Musicians through work in chamber ensembles throughout the whole year. The chamber ensembles include string, wind and piano players, ages 11-18. Playing chamber music allows the young musicians to encounter masterpieces which provide the students with an opportunity to deepen their musical understanding, listening skills, sensitivity to sound and teamwork. As part of their work, the young musicians meet with first-class Israeli and international artists.
Each year, the program includes about 30 outstanding ensembles all across Israel, who meet for weekly rehearsals during the school year and in intensive courses during school vacations and summer holidays. The program is directed by violinist Sergei Bresler, a graduate of the Jerusalem Music Centre's Programs and a member of the Jerusalem Quartet, which was founded as part of this program.
The students enjoy unique enrichment and training programs in the fields of music theory, masterclasses with international musicians, and receive opportunities to perform, record and tape their performances in the JMC studio. Throughout the year the programm's ensembles perform in concerts on some of Israel's most important stages as well as in special concerts for the community, in schools, retirement homes and hospitals.
The team of the JMC Educational Programs accompanies the students during their various activities, assists and provides support for the needs of the young musicians' important formative years.
During its years of existence, the Jerusalem Music Centre has left a deep mark on musical life in Israel in general, and on the sphere of chamber music specifically. Hundreds of Israel's most prominent musicians are graduates of the Jerusalem Music Centre. The centre has supported the creation and thriving of internationally acclaimed ensembles such as the Jerusalem Quartet, the Ariel Quartet, the Silver-Garburg Piano Duo, the Israel Chamber Project, and other ensembles.
