I've had a Paramo Veles smock for about 12 or 13 years and I absolutely love it - 80% as waterproof as a hard shell while being just as or more breathable than a soft shell. Paramo deserves their excellent reputation.

Agreed. I'll look at picking up a Veles. Seems there's a lot of people happy with it 👍

I’ve got lots and lots of Paramo gear (much to my wife’s disgrace) and can hands down say it is the best outdoor gear by far, I have tried and like lots of other gear but if I had to rely solely on one product, Paramo would win hands down, velez brilliant and Taiga fleece (now discontinued) I live and die in.

Nikwax and Paramo aren't quite the same company, but were both founded by Nick Brown. Paramo is owned by the Miquellina Foundation now.
The fabric is made by Nikwax, technically as a separate company, but Paramo is the only company, that I know of, that use it.

Aaaaaaah... That makes sense. I assumed there was some connection somewhere. That's for the heads up 👍

Not exactly. Nick Brown sold Páramo to the EOT which includes the Miquelina workers, he did the same with NikWax. So, he did own both until 2022.
"In February 2022, Páramo, Miquelina and Nikwax became an Employee Owned Trust"

    Paramo is brilliant
I’ve a Tiagia Fleece from 1996 and still going strong
Their gear needs washing and treating with Nikwax and dirt is its enemy.
    I’ve loads of their gear.

Ha ha ha... I near caught Mrs Moorlander about to wash my Torres gilet with the rest of our cloths in the washing machine 😂 washing can be a pain but totally worth it when done right 👍

Have a Velez jacket, love it -- you should try the Velez smock. I don't usually do smocks, but I'm going to make an exception for the Velez Evo Smock later this year. Sure you have to take care of these, but that's a minor trouble.

Paramo kit is/was used by mountain rescue, if it's good enough for them then, it's good enough for anyone.

Oh yeah, forgot that. Paramo and Buffalo have the Mountain Rescue seal of approval

@@MoorlanderEDCtell you what I’ve noticed. The Velcro strip to tighten the bottom of the sleeves is on the opposite side to the way helikon have it. Helikon have it going from the inside over to the outside but paramo has it coming over from the outside to the inside and It’s difficult for me to tighten them up with my cack handedness 😂😂

Smock ? Why it is called smock ? Terribly different of 'real' smocks no ? (I have an Arktis B310 and a Leo Köhler KSK and it is very different with smocks you reviewed on your channel)

    • @MoorlanderEDC
      @MoorlanderEDC  4 місяці тому +2

Yes there definitely a difference with how the term Smock is used. A traditional Smock is an over the head garment that farm workers would wear. It was generally a long linen short that buttoned have way down. This is probably the closed to a traditional Smock, whereas the military added the full length opening. It's a strong work to use as its got so many different styles. Similar to an Anorak. These can be both full length and half zip. Both an Anorak and Smock are really just shirts designed to be worn over other shirts 😊

@@MoorlanderEDC Mate I'm of similar dimensions to yourself but I ordered an XL and it absolutely drowned me, so I exchanged it for a large, and I am much happier with it now.
It looks about the same fit as yours is on you.
      Cheers and ATB,
      Allan
