The time spent is very little, and even in the very rare case of it being Haunted Ground, it usually doesn't lose you the game, it's rather a minor inconvenience. If you don't cleanse the Hex immediately you risk that the Killer gets an insta down with Devour Hope for example. But if you notice a Hex is in play but didn't find the totem yet, most of your arguments can be used for figuring out if the totem is worth looking for. They changed undying a long time ago to make sure it doesn't give 2 huanted ground effects. Now, no matter what totem gets cleansed, undying will always be the first to deactivate, instead of transfering the hex that got cleansed to the undying totem like it used to do when undying was released. this also protects stacks for other totems like devour. That way, huanted grounds doesn't get cleansed twice.
Haunted Grounds still gets cleansed twice. If you cleanse a haunted grounds it will transfer to the Undying totem and if you cleanse the other it activates again
@Sheer_Force I stand corrected. I went and tested it against bots, and yes, it does transfer. I know at one point they changed it, though, so that it wouldn't do that. I used to run this combo back when it first came out, and then it stopped working, so I quit using it.
You can literally cleanse any totem at any time as long as you make sure your protecting the teammate being chased from haunted ground by waiting until they get injured before you start the cleanse
I partially agree with you and really appreciate the info in this vid, but in my opinion it's still more often than not worth cleansing if you don't know what the hex is, especially if you suspect they might be counting on NOED in the end game (as it cuts down on the area you'd need to search to find it). The potential benefit of cleansing usually outweighs the time spent to cleanse it, and if it's not worth it then it's usually pretty obvious based on what other perks you notice/didn't notice. Also 2.5k hours in + watching a ridiculous amount of DBD content and this was the first time I heard anyone mention the fast vault notification range was 48 meters, so thanks for that as well!
if it glows, it goes. Imo, its good to just get the totem out of the way. Why wait to suffer the consequences of a totem before getting rid of it? If you wait, youre just giving the killer more time to get value out of the hex perk, which you dont want. There are 15 hex perks and only 2 that actually punish you from doing totems: Pentimento, and haunted ground. Pentimento gets increasingly worse the more totems you do, but just memorize where you cleansed the totem, and go back and remove pentimento totem. Haunted ground provides an insta down for 60 seconds to any surv they m1, just try to do the totem when someone's not in chase, if they are, let teammate know. If solo queue, sorry random teammate. Then just hide for 1 minute. Killer cant get value if they cant find you. You dont want to give killer a chance to end a chase quickly because you left blood favor or crowd control up. You dont want killer to get pressure with Ruin, and devour. and you dont want to screw over teammates by not getting rid of their Plaything totem or getting rid of hex the third seal for aura reading perks. There's way more up sides to just getting rid of the hex as quickly as possible, than leaving it to linger. there's a six percent chance of it being haunted ground. Not to mention that if theyre running a hex perk, undying is fairly common to run with a hex perk, so youd have to do two totems anyways. If you can identify it, great, its no longer a gamble and you can plan ahead easier. But if you dont know, just have plans to play safe after doing it. Cleanse hexes when you find them!
I had my fastest 4k ever with a full hex build on Spirit one time. I had Haunted, Undying, Retribution and Devour. Ended up getting a 4k in 3:18 seconds. I got #16 in the world without even trying, it was crazy and proof that hex builds can be either nuts or do nothing. I got very lucky.
Yeah the build the trapper had is my go to on blight. I call it my "dont touch my totems build" for the exact purpose of either benefiting smart players or punishment for the "it glows it gos" playstyle
I had survivors come up to me many times wanting to heal me shortly after we got a hex devour-hope reveal, it’s crazy how clueless people are when it comes to hexes, and nobody even tries to cleanse it except for me
Since the worst hex totem effect you can get after cleansing is exposed from Haunted Grounds I'd say it's better to just cleans it and get exposed for 60s instead of the killer patrolling it with Devour
I run this build all the time on slinger with one single alteration. Devour hope. If they cleanse the totems I have retribution + haunted to get a few downs then undying to do it again. If they don't well, let's just say they don't make it out alive...
You neglected Retribution's second effect: when it's cleansed Survivor auras are revealed mapwide, which is probably the more pressing reason to not cleanse it.
Undying, ruin, pentimento, and whatever pinheads hex is again. Strongest hex build. Especially good on killers that can slow the game with other items that survivors have to interact with like trapper, plague, unknown, etc.
honestly with how few hexes are not worth/bad to cleanse and how difficult it can be to identify which they have it's better to just get it cleansed if you see it.
that build is so fun. you mess with survivors thinking its something important but once you play with a SWF they wont really do them. Thats why you can add devour hope lol, it becomes op
Even though hex builds aren't super popular anymore, i use hex builds so often. Not every killer is good with hexes, but it's so worth trying. I very often just bring hex third seal with all killers at least because of the windows of opportunity players currently
So happy seeing you check for Ruin. Gotta hold it for a few charges now, I miss just tapping it. Anyway, gamers, please check for Ruin on your first generator, make it habit
Retribution is never ran on its own. It has excellent synergy with Plaything and Pento, and or Undying with probably Ruin. Frankly any hex, that is its design! Be watchful! Watchful like Mish! Hit that Like and Subscribe!
Main lesson - try to figure out what the Hex is before just default cleansing. I've ran a full hex build before and sometimes it makes it very confusing for survivors as to whether it's beneficial to cleanse or not. I was running Hex Third Seal combined with the blindness add-ons for Pig which was a very nasty build because they had to not only focus on their beartraps every time they popped a gen but also set time aside to cleanse my Hex 😁
Unless retribution has been changed it also gives wall hacks for a short time after ANY totem is cleansed if you pair it with haunted grounds and undying you get wall hacks and one shots everytime they cleanse have fun with that
I will always do Lullaby if it's that. Without doing the hex the game is so stressful for me. I'd rather lose a minute getting the hex and have a fun game instead of sweating it and still losing anyway
Very good video! Worth noting that NOED actually gives a whopping 6% haste bonus at tier 3, but I learned a lot about how I should be playing survivor!
As a killer main, if you sonehow identify and find Devour (and likely Undying) early, save it. If you can time it right (theough comms or the likes) it's REALLY funny to let them have three stacks, and JUST BEFORE they get the insta-down, you cleanse it. Every time I see this happen and they just run off instead of going down, I laugh so hard that I choke. Even funnier if it's right before I can mori someone I've downed. It goes from this excited high moment of, "YES! YES!" to just, "oh."
I always cleanse a hex perk. Why? If its undying thats 1 perk down, if not its still a perk down. Worst case scenario its haunted and you hide for a few seconds to wait out the exposed. If the killer having less perks helps me survive ima do it. I've had killer just instantly dc because I instantly get rid of their hex totems.
@@That_0ne_Dev ya it’s not fun when you spawn 5 feet from a hex totem literally in plain view and both your hex and undying are gone within the first 30 seconds.
I had a trickster basement camp me, because I cleansed his Crowd Control Hex 30s into the game, because it spawned right next to me😂. Seems that he was bitter enough to punsih my team for something we couldn't controll😂.
As a killer who uses hex builds often specifically plaything and pentimento; I can say she isn't wrong about waiting to cleanse hexes that won't hurt you, also I only use plaything on killers who move quickly so hearing their radius is imperative if you can't loop well. The value in pentimento isn't in the first 2-3 gens because you need people to cleanse and forget where it was, you want to wait until the survivors confidence is up and then start to brake it with pentimento. Keep people wounded after your second stack of pent they will waste a ton of time healing or ideally looking for totems. You have to tread a fine line with hexes, if you are running pentimento you really want to maintain control, it does nothing if they know you can't beat them in chase.
I play both survivor and killer…. It’s kind of counterintuitive to what you’re saying, and after naming all the perks, you essentially said it’s smart to cleanse 85% of them or so. As a killer, getting rid of 1, or 2 hex, you left me with 2 perks left.. huge disadvantage on killers who need Hexes. As a survivor, it’s all about efficiency. If you see a hex, it is 9/10 a reasonably smart thing to remove it. The cons outweigh the pros if you don’t. Sure, it’s smart to deduce it, but the problem here is depending on what everyone else is doing is what makes it worth or not… if it’s a SWFT, then great, you can work… but if it’s not, people don’t take queues from the game… thus making everything inefficient.
I usually use my intuition for Haunted Grounds. Whether or not the killer has been protecting totems, paying attention to them, and if nothing totem-related has even happened yet. Ofc not everyone will think the same way I do, but that’s how I go about it.
IF IT GLOWS IT GOES! the only exception to this is if the killer is running hex plaything. most of the time i've noticed that players who use this perk are also running pentimento now days a build popularized by certain content creators. at this time its probably better to try and avoid being hooked and if you are don't cleanse just do gens and stay on the lookout as you will not be able to hear the killer if you're cleansing plaything it just gives the killer more stacks of pentimento and you will have to waste more time cleansing that as well as doing gens. not worth it.
"Huntress Lullaby: I just pay attention" Do you run Hyperfocus for that same reason? Ever go against it drunk? lol I've quit drinking, but I could do without Hex: Lullaby, and I like the points it gives
over 1k survivor hours here, I agree, always cleanse that shit. And I hope I dont get this Mish in solo queue lol... especially after seeing her looping footage lmfaooo

No I agree! I always had the rule of if it's not bothering the gen then leave it alone cause it might be haunting. Keep the location of it in your mind in case it's devoured.

"Literally, non of these perks hurt us."So, remember folks, stop focusing on these harmless object and fight together against your real enemies that are truly worth your efforts.
Mish is right, you shouldn't be cleansing totems that you can easily adapt to by altering gameplay style to fit the hex-related totem. Especially in higher-elo, time management is VITAL to survival because a high-elo killer will get easier hooks than a low-elo killer, meaning every second counts. If a survivor loops only for you to cleanse a totem that wasn't worth your time, you have already wasted so much time that could have been spent on a generator. I know in many survivors minds "cleansing one hex totem = killer only has 3 perks left so survivors have 4 each still" may be the way they think, but if the killer has a "useless" hex, then you can make them have "3 perks" by just altering your gameplay style. This way, you save so much time that you would have wasted on totem cleansing, that you can place on a generator.
No, silence simp. you're wrong. Always cleanse. 9 times out of 10 you'll be removing one of the killers perks when you do. If you spawn in by a hex totem and you don't cleanse its a waste of time. why risk somebody getting downed early because you didn't? SIMP
I strongly disagree... I mean 1st of all, to almost every totem she talked about she said its worth cleansing. In most cases you don't know what you're cleansing so you rather take the risk of like 1/15 or so to get exposed... which is the only "bad" hex to cleanse... The ones she said not to cleanse are those killers run in order, to pair with actually usefull hexes which basically makes the "bad" hex worth cleansing again... The point of me yappin? Simply said there is a reason why hex perks are cleansable: Because they're strong, too strong to be permanent. About your higher-elo example... yes it is true that cleansing totems takes time... but in the long run will save time because of their nature explained above...especially against "higher-elo" killers who probably will know which hex to run to get maximum value... And if you look at the very high end of Dead by Daylight (Competitive Players) they also prioritize cleansing before anything because they know the killer plays around its existance Long story short... 0:08 "if it glows, it goes"
You know it will only help the killer if survivors don't cleanse most totems, right? by the time the killer has 3 stacks of devour, it's practically too late...
Usually whenever a totem gets cleansed I don't have to worry about going down because I am honestly a really good looper but I also can't escape people cleansing totems because they want to.
You must be new to DBD, veteran players have always had the unwritten rule, "If it glows, it goes." If you get wrecked by haunted ground, then you got jipped by a rando, or you didn't communciate well enough. All else, you're just trying to be pittied. As a killer main, even I know this.
not cleansing a totem is just a weird move to do. It takes longer walking around trying to investigate what perks they have rather than just straight up cleansing the totem. If you already know what perk they have before finding the totem and it's just trash ass perk like huntress lullaby; sure no real need to cleanse it unless you want the points
i feel like tiny tiny meticulous details and stuff like this is what makes the game so unfun, as a survivor it's so easy to mess up and make the other survivors hate you, i understand this is a strategy game but looping wasn't even intended to be a legit mechanic they had to actually balance, i think the whole concept of the game is fun but all these metas, very specific rules or strategies are what make the game so lifeless and unfun. obviously not everyone agrees with this but personally i think the game is just so over complicated now and you can't appease anyone.
Hey, jsyk I run retribution in a devour pentimento build and you get the oblivious and aura no matter what totem you cleanse, but if you cleanse the totem for retribution that effect goes away for all totems
Really informative video on hex perks and how to identify them but I do disagree with the cautionary approach to cleansing. The video showcasing that killers hex perks is not really a decent example either as I would consider that to be something of a meme build and you'll never typically run into anyone running that in 99% of your games. As someone who has played against and with full hex builds a lot the chances of devour hope are high enough that you should just expect it in the first place if you notice more than one glowing hex. In such a situation you will want to jump onto hexes immediately to wipe out Undying and possibly huanted ground if you are unlucky as quickly as possible. On both sides I have seen so many times an effort to get rid of devour hope once it's revealed at 3 stacks with a 4th already on hook but by then it's already way too late on the survivor side to recover the match typically. Especially if its a high mobility killer. However If you've already wiped out devour hope and there's still some glowing totems left then you can maybe leave it expecting it to be haunted ground or something
The only and I mean ONLY one worth wile is Devour and do it after 2nd hook, don't wait for 3rd, if it happens to be Haunted no biggie, probable chasing an already injured surv.
I never cleanse plaything because i just immediately assume the killer has pentimento with it. And 90% of the time I’m right, but that doesn’t stop my teammates from cleansing my plaything totem and then the slow downward spiral of seeing the killer light up all five totems and you try to finish one as fast as you can but you can’t get it before the killer gets the five stacks. It’s only happened to me once but it’s enough to never cleanse plaything again and play like i’m facing a stealth killer
So much misinformation, undying is always the first hex cleansed that’s the whole point of it, and then the other totem disappears There’s other misinformation, but I’m tired of my solo games getting ruined
I don't know if this is true or just coincidence, but from experience if you equip undying and then haunted ground then the undying will be cleansed first every time, and if you reverse it then you get the haunted grounds cleansed first, the same way soul guard and unbreakable interact. Idk if this is how it works for sure or if I'm just really lucky.

Also 2.5k hours in + watching a ridiculous amount of DBD content and this was the first time I heard anyone mention the fast vault notification range was 48 meters, so thanks for that as well!
I had a killer running ALL hex perks so it didn't matter what totem we cleansed 😭
she literally just showed a match where it mattered 💀
IF IT GLOWS, IT GOES
if it glows, it goes.
Okay counterpoint, the "Deep Cleansing" achievement exists.
This is clearly made by a killer main posing as a survivor main; if it glows, it goes
If it glows it goes!
I had survivors come up to me many times wanting to heal me shortly after we got a hex devour-hope reveal, it’s crazy how clueless people are when it comes to hexes, and nobody even tries to cleanse it except for me
sure thing buddy, you alone are the saying grace at all times
@@schmietwechdeschiet4340 found the clueless dwight
@@schmietwechdeschiet4340 most people don’t cleanse them though
Since the worst hex totem effect you can get after cleansing is exposed from Haunted Grounds I'd say it's better to just cleans it and get exposed for 60s instead of the killer patrolling it with Devour
exactly, worst case scenario, you are exposed for 60 seconds
best case, you ruin the build/plan of the kilelr
*as a Huntress Lul user this brings me joy :) that you view it as a non cleanse*
I run this build all the time on slinger with one single alteration. Devour hope. If they cleanse the totems I have retribution + haunted to get a few downs then undying to do it again. If they don't well, let's just say they don't make it out alive...
There's no reason not to cleanse HEXes
You're taking a risk of avoiding potential 60 second crits for infinite crits and moris
I took in this video, and then discarded the information. If it glows, it goes. Amen
you forgot the aura read from undying
Very good video! Worth noting that NOED actually gives a whopping 6% haste bonus at tier 3, but I learned a lot about how I should be playing survivor!
sorry if it glows it goes im cleansing everything
@@devinedgin673 I would call that poor RNG no matter how you swing it survivors will learn totem locations
I had a trickster basement camp me, because I cleansed his Crowd Control Hex 30s into the game, because it spawned right next to me😂.
Seems that he was bitter enough to punsih my team for something we couldn't controll😂.
Gotta love the random queue coming back in for the rescue.
If it glows, it goes.
Pentimento: pentimento
Mish: penameno!
As a hex build spirit main, i support this message >:3
i’m sorry mish but i’m like a MOTH TO A FLAME I CANT HELP ITTTT 😭😭😭
The only issue I have with Hex totems is Haunted Grounds, there's no way to tell when it's in play.
I usually use my intuition for Haunted Grounds. Whether or not the killer has been protecting totems, paying attention to them, and if nothing totem-related has even happened yet. Ofc not everyone will think the same way I do, but that’s how I go about it.
I see it as point are points. double haunted ground bc of undying? that's 3 glowing totems for extra points lol
It doesn’t matter no one escapes 😈
IF IT GLOWS IT GOES! the only exception to this is if the killer is running hex plaything. most of the time i've noticed that players who use this perk are also running pentimento now days a build popularized by certain content creators. at this time its probably better to try and avoid being hooked and if you are don't cleanse just do gens and stay on the lookout as you will not be able to hear the killer if you're cleansing plaything it just gives the killer more stacks of pentimento and you will have to waste more time cleansing that as well as doing gens. not worth it.
As a devour player if you unhook quick I tunnel. pick your poison
"Huntress Lullaby: I just pay attention" Do you run Hyperfocus for that same reason? Ever go against it drunk? lol I've quit drinking, but I could do without Hex: Lullaby, and I like the points it gives
12k hours here (9k or more on surv only)
cleanse that shit
yeah sometimes u r unlucky and get a haunted ground but still
over 1k survivor hours here, I agree, always cleanse that shit. And I hope I dont get this Mish in solo queue lol... especially after seeing her looping footage lmfaooo
@@ghost_m3p I mean this video proved you wrong. Lmao. Let's see your looping footage, though?
pentimento tho?
@@Josie-kitten depends only pentimento doesn't do much combined with devour for example then u ofc cleanse it
in case u pair it with plaything it depends if u play swf or not
when u okay swf u usually always know where the killer is bc of voice chat (then just keep the oblivious) also when solo and it a open map like ormond for example u see the killer coming miles away then keep it as well and pay attention
when u solo q on larys i would cleanse it
did you watch the video?
No I agree! I always had the rule of if it's not bothering the gen then leave it alone cause it might be haunting. Keep the location of it in your mind in case it's devoured.
Watch the video because Mish is obviously very entertaining, but please cleanse all lit totems, please! 1500 BP and most lit are pretty killer sided bonuses.
"Literally, non of these perks hurt us."So, remember folks, stop focusing on these harmless object and fight together against your real enemies that are truly worth your efforts.
Im surprised you said dont cleanse retribution, its almost always paired with another totem so its a must cleanse by association
And if you look at the very high end of Dead by Daylight (Competitive Players) they also prioritize cleansing before anything because they know the killer plays around its existance
Long story short... 0:08 "if it glows, it goes"
More like captain save-a-hó3!
You know it will only help the killer if survivors don't cleanse most totems, right? by the time the killer has 3 stacks of devour, it's practically too late...

giving away killer secrets. dang, this is going to make my life more difficult.
Usually whenever a totem gets cleansed I don't have to worry about going down because I am honestly a really good looper but I also can't escape people cleansing totems because they want to.
If only everyone was as incredible as you 🙄
You must be new to DBD, veteran players have always had the unwritten rule, "If it glows, it goes." If you get wrecked by haunted ground, then you got jipped by a rando, or you didn't communciate well enough. All else, you're just trying to be pittied. As a killer main, even I know this.
I mainly use thrill of the hunt for the extra blood points
if it glows it goes but dont go out of your way for some hexs if i cleanse haunted at 5 gens its fine get it out of the game
not cleansing a totem is just a weird move to do. It takes longer walking around trying to investigate what perks they have rather than just straight up cleansing the totem. If you already know what perk they have before finding the totem and it's just trash ass perk like huntress lullaby; sure no real need to cleanse it unless you want the points
Mate if it glows it's got to go 😂
CounterForce: I end the Totems whole career faster
Instructions followed, ive been morid by devour hope 20000 times since taking this advice, really makes the game better!
That chase was SICK 🔥
i feel like tiny tiny meticulous details and stuff like this is what makes the game so unfun, as a survivor it's so easy to mess up and make the other survivors hate you, i understand this is a strategy game but looping wasn't even intended to be a legit mechanic they had to actually balance, i think the whole concept of the game is fun but all these metas, very specific rules or strategies are what make the game so lifeless and unfun. obviously not everyone agrees with this but personally i think the game is just so over complicated now and you can't appease anyone.
Ijust Cleanse or Boon them when I see them and runninga Boon Build (Still need the Achievements) :D
1 haunted ground in 100 games is worth abiding by "if it glows, it goes"
The only and I mean ONLY one worth wile is Devour and do it after 2nd hook, don't wait for 3rd, if it happens to be Haunted no biggie, probable chasing an already injured surv.
Love the video Mish! Its very informative for newer players!
Yeah, thanks but I’m cleansing it.
what if it's devour hope xD
IF IT GLOWS IT GOES ❤️💚
I have to cleanse bc I have inner strenght😢
NO! you tryna control me! How very dare you!
the pro of cleansing outweighs the cons. im sorry
Nah, if it glows, it goes
If it glows, it goes. Don’t care what it is, it always must go.
So much misinformation, undying is always the first hex cleansed that’s the whole point of it, and then the other totem disappears
There’s other misinformation, but I’m tired of my solo games getting ruined
Yes don’t cleanse until you know what the totem is, my build totally wont make it impossible to cleanse or anything 😈
don't cleanse this, don't cleanse that. I can't even find it?
Clense it before its too late
I don't know if this is true or just coincidence, but from experience if you equip undying and then haunted ground then the undying will be cleansed first every time, and if you reverse it then you get the haunted grounds cleansed first, the same way soul guard and unbreakable interact. Idk if this is how it works for sure or if I'm just really lucky.
