In addition to creating realistic 3D character heads, CrazyTalk 8 can also be used to turn a single 2D cartoon image into a stylized 3D head with unique cell-shading with some help from Photoshop.
This tutorial will walk you through the process of mapping your 2D caricature image to a 3D head, and then show you how to modify the facial texture map in Photoshop and re-apply it to your character in CrazyTalk 8 for a cool looking toon shader effect. You'll also learn how to do the same thing for the body to dress your character as you wish.

This is one of the best tutorials I have ever seen. You are a great instructor
Great instructions. Tip from me: Using the paint bucket tool would speed this up a lot.
good tip
Got to say I like it so far I just bought it...really cool features.
+Sally Mae No crack?
Is there an option for camera facial animation to animate a 2D portrait?
this seems to work fine with bald characters..but if my character has long hair or something..it cant be done...there are only a few hair styles to choose from..is there a way to make my own stylised hair for my cartoon head
Can these then be put on Iclone 7 full body characters? That would be awesome.
That is a load of work. I am really new at this, but what about editing the original image before making the 3D character? Or mirroring the left side of the face to the right for more uniform colouring? The lopsidedness of the face can be animated in after?
Thanks for the tutorial. I purchased both Crazytalk 7 and the upgrade to version 8. What I find incredibly disappointing is that in order to add a cap to my character, I have to spend more money purchasing a package with items which I don't need at all and which costs more than the amount that I paid for the upgrade from 7 to 8. It's just a crazy pricing structure.
+Lake Hache You can also choose to purchase individual items, and not necessarily the entire Content Pack.
+Reallusion really? I can only see individual items for iclone, not for crazytalk.
+Lake Hache Ah yes sorry for that! Unfortunately we only have a section in our Marketplace for CrazyTalk Animator where you can purchase separate assets. We have yet to create a section for CrazyTalk, but if the demand is high enough we will consider another section for that.
this is a great tutorial and look like some great software. i wonder if there is the ability to put a talking head on a walking or moving figure?
+Joe Winfield There definitely is! You might want to take a look at our 3D animation software, iClone. :)
So can you do a tutorial how to get this to Iclone?
@@reallusion can i use this software with blender 2d animation?
can this three d head be done in cartoon animator 4?
Is this feature still available in Cartoon animator 4?
awesome !!!
after purchasing, want to use, it stop responding what is the prob?
It could be a dozen things. You need to be more clear. Please contact Reallusion Customer Support www.reallusion.com/customersupport/user/faqlist.aspx
Thanks for that. Good stuff - but don't you have copyright issues with the source of the caricature on ?wilsonsketchblog
+Sean McHugh As long as you use it for educational and/or private use, you shouldn't have a problem. Just don't claim it as your own and try to make money from it.
That's me, a private citizen. You are a commercial company using their material. The only reason you exist is to make money. I hope you have their permission.
+Sean McHugh Well, a University can also be a commercial company, but if they use a material for educational purposes doesn't that allow them "fair use" to?
+Oxidus Thanks for that. But RL are not a university. I like the company. I buy their products. But I don't want to see them throwing their weight about. If they use wilsonsketchblog's stuff they should do more IMO than acknowledge it - although that is a good start.
Nobody is throwing their weight around. You need to be consistent with your argument. That Reallusion is a University, or that it is a commercial company is irrelevant. Because fair use is not about the user but about the context of usage. Reallusion is not selling you the image or re-purposing it as a 3D head content pack. i.e. Media outlets directly profit from their articles and reviews, do you think they are under any legal obligation to inform the owner that they are talking about their product? Of course not. Just like the Scary Movies franchise does not have any legal obligation to inform whoever they parody. Because its not about the user, but about the way you use it which in this case IS for education. If anything, Reallusion has already given proper credit to the owner and source, thus giving him exposure on Reallusion's dime.
would look like same but for that giant nose lol kaboingggg @_@ reminds me of a flat lil cesars pizza nose but not as big as ceasar lol just as wide tho
