Ah, you can tell this is close to Denmark... Hygge is Danish, for those who would like to know. And the concoction you need in order to fika is coffee/tea/good bevarage apart from alchohol, something sweet like a cinnamon bun (generally cake or cookie) and another person to fika with. Fika can be done alone, but it's more common to do with others. (I've fika on my own when I'm running errands and need a break, but mostly you will see people fika with others). Fika is such an important thing you will find it hard to be social in Sweden if you don't know how to do it. Your coworkers will come up to you and say "fika" which translates to: stop your work, let's take a break. Fika is also when most of Sweden solve their internal work related problems, because work is quite often brought up as a topic when you are at work and when you meet your other coworkers, they tend to be able to give advice or help you. Fika is also important in order to stay close to friends. Everyone knows what fika is, this I've used when I haven't met someone for a while and I can ask them "Shall we fika" and if they have time, I have never heard a no. Fika is also a very common first date, as it is a social gathering and you get to talk (unlike the cinema). Fika is also important to swedes, as our parents were brought up with it and our grandparents were brought up with it. As a child it was quite common for me to see my grandparents over a fika. Fika is also flexible, it can be done at a café (which there are often plenty of in the cities) or at home. Yes, at home. I've often invited friends home for a fika, which means I bake or buy something sweet, brew coffee and get to meet everyone. If you ever wish to move to Sweden, learn how to fika. We half expect you to, but it's not that hard. Just immensely widespread. Which btw, Swedish baked goods are among the best in the world. So, if you ever visit us come and fika! Sincerely A Swede
Your comment made me really understand how fika is a thing in Finland too. Not suprising, we're just a tiny strech of water from each other :) We just "go for coffee" (kahville) and the concept of a coffee break is very important to us. But yes, you're supposed to sit down with a coffee, and a friend, something to eat and just chat.
@@kayleenlussier4684 I suspect you didn't go, what with corona and all that, but if you do: everyone in Sweden and Denmark speaks English fluently, so you needn't be worried. I've heard so much about Sweden from my friends but ive never felt the need to go there... but after watching just ONE of your videos about it, I FEEL LIKE I NEED TO GO THERE RIGHT NOW!
In 2015, at VidCon, I met Simon and told him how both of you inspired me to want to study TESOL to be able to teach English in Sweden, specifically Malmö. Since then, I’ve visited Malmö and fell in love and I’m currently in college working toward that dream. So cool to see you guys in Malmö. Thanks for inspiring me 🥰
Everything looks great. Thank goodness I'm eating. Video idea perhaps? I've always been curious since you guys travel a lot. Have you ever fallen into a tourist trap/ scam kind of thing? Can you tell us your experiences and maybe give some tips? That would be very helpful. Thanks
They talked about sth like that in one of their podcasts. They don't really like that expression "Tourist traps". If the location of the restaurant is awesome, than ofcourse it's gonna' be more expensive, that doesn't make the food less enjoyable. And if someone says you shouldn't drink or eat that because it's a Tourist trap than the only thing you do is compromising yourself of an experience (Like not drinking sangria in Barcelona). Maybe that helps you a little bit :) Unfortunatly I can't remember what episode it was 🤔 But a video or Podcast about the worst restaurants they have been to, would be interesting! I agree :)
@@Namine1990 Ahh yeah. I remember that episode. I think they were talking about tourist traps in terms of location and food being more expensive. Sorry I don't know the exact term. Like for example, I've seen a documentary where tourists would be offered to buy souvenirs and if they say no the vendor would make be angry and make a scene. Or when tourist will be distracted while accomplices pick their pockets.
@@crystalr6461 No you have the right terminology. I think "Tourist Trap" means something different to different people or people that grew up in different parts of the world. Being an American, living in in the US, I grew up with it being more similar to how you put it, a place that is a waste of time. Like a really tacky place that is nothing but a big souvenir shop.

I know how hard you guys worked on this but believe me when i say this was one of my favorite videos you guys ever put out. Truly beautiful and so you ❤️❤️
Hold up, did I just see an ice-cream named Brexit Blues?? Is that made of the tears of the British public? I think ice-cream shops here in London could make gallons of this stuff 😭

Fika is definitely important in Sweden! I spend much more time/money on fika then I ever do on restaurants and food 😊 But Hygge is a danish term. As I understand it it’s about taking time to me cozy. But I have never heard a Swedish person use it 😊 But there are lots of Danish people there to 😊
Thank you for making videos showcasing a lot of diferent places. I know I will probably never visit them, but this way i get to know more about our beautiful world!
Hopefully more countries will invite you guys! When I went to Rome, I used your recommendation list and we all loved the places you guys picked! Now Sweden is on my travel list too :)
I’ve been having shitty health days lately that have affected my mental health but you two never fail to lift my spirits. These videos always inspire me to get out there in the world and try things.
Cardamom! I knew what it was before the sexy voice told me! Important flavor note for Scandinavians. Great for french toast and bread pudding :)
Omg speaking about my hometown like this makes me emotional 😭🥰 I’m so happy you enjoyed your stay here!! I fell in love with the city when I moved here for uni 4 years ago and I plan on staying for much longer.

Ok guys, by minute 6:00 I was sold. that's it, Malmo is officially on my list for my Scandinavian trip (hopefully next year)! Wonderful photography and vibe in this video; must be the Fika thing :) The 30 minutes just fly by! great job !

I really enjoyed this video! As a Malmö local there are so many other places I wish you’d had the chance to try out! But I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you’ll be back soon!
The way you guys talk about food it reminds me of, Marshal, from How I Met Your Mother. Specifically when he talked about the burger. Which is probably the most beautiful, poetic way you ever could. Love, love, LOVE this episode! And now I have more places to add to my bucket list 😍
UGHHHH SIGHHHH *begrudgingly adds Sweden to an ever growing list of places I really want to visit* xD this trip looks so fun and chill thank you for sharing! I'm happy Malmo reached out to you guys too because this was great
Wow you guys visited my hometown! Thank you for making such a great video, and I hope you will visit here again someday and try Malmö falafel (best in Sweden!!)
Oh thank you for noticing! I’m playing with quicker “off beat” music edits and I downloaded a whole bunch of new lofi chill hop type songs. I wanted the video to flow quickly despite it being 30min long 💻
I work with a humanitarian and training charity/organization thing (It's hard to put us in a box) and before I started there was a Swedish girl working here and she introduced fika to everyone who was on staff at the time. They loved the idea so much they started to have a fika break mid morning and it's something we still do to this day. Everyday we break and spend time with each other over coffee and pastries. We even take turns baking for everyone. I really think it brings us closer together and makes us feel more like a family. Which is nice since I moved country to work with this organization.
Thank you Simon and Martina for this!! I'm going to study abroad in Sweden in 2021 and I've been relentlessly researching about where to go and eat. and there's no one I trust more than you two about food!!! 😭❤️
Just... beautiful. I got teary eyed because of how ABSOLUTELY gorgeous it looked there, the scenery but ESPECIALLY THE FOOD. Ugh I had a dream to visit Norway and Sweden. Now I'm adding the specific city of Malmo
This is a very nice food guide, since I’m planning to go to Malmö next year for a convention. Also the way you pronounce "hygge" as hugge is really funny to me agkhafjld
When Simon was super excited about the goat cheese ice cream, I totally understood how he felt. There's an ice cream shop in the states called "Salt & Straw" and they occasionally make seasonal goat cheese ice cream that's so delicious. Especially during the fall, they make this spiced goat cheese & pumpkin pie flavor and it's divineeee
So..... I'm Italian. And "fica" (same pronounciation of fika) is a slang for vagina. So everything you said about fika is twice as hilarious as it sounded to you.
Ylenia Cesaroni I made a new icecream at Köld with figs and Amaretto and walked over to my Napoli pizza neighbor pizza DalSud and said I think I will call it Figamore. He said no no no!! He explained why.. it’s now called Fikoretto (fikon is Swedish for figs..)
If I can give this video one thousand likes I would!! I love love love how you two have evolved and your videos are so inspiring! You both are the best UA-cam channel here! 💕💕💕
Loved the video and almost every place you went to was new even to me as a citizen of Malmö! (I usually hang out in the cheaper/dirtier parts of town. :D) You nailed fika (pronounced like week, but feek. Feek-ah!) and made me want to have a fika for the first time in several months. Last time I went for fika we actually strolled by Köld and I agree that their ice cream is the best I've ever had! Still sad I was abroad when you guys were here but I'm so happy you enjoyed your stay! And I must try Unholy Water some day, it seems like a... reasonable cocktail. ;)
guys just wanna say i loveeeeeeeeeeee the longer content!!! you guys are so enjoyable to watch the editing is perfect idk why travel channel hasnt hit you up yet
I love this so much! Malmö is great, I never got a chance to really go and explore when I was living in Uppsala, but this gives me a lot of reason to go back! Glad you guys had fun!
You know that creamy vanilla custard at 16:33? In some parts of Sweden (like Gothenburg where I'm from) it's called "farmors hosta", which means "grandmother's cough". Do with that information what you will.
omg why didn't you have a meetup I'm sooooooooo sad I live like an hour from Malmö!!! :( but love the video and ur content always makes me happy Love u both!
What a fun video! I really liked all the slomo parts. Simon was so funny and I like Martina clothes so much! Also that reverse filming in the ice cream shop was sooo nice
I am aware of it as well but probably people that know about it don't want to weigh that negativity down upon Simon and Martina, it's probably still mostly a nice city anyway
This is amazing, i love long videos from you guys! Sweden is a country i've always wanted to visit and Malmo was a city i'd never considered but now it's definitely on my list :)
12:26 at first I thought this was a very expensive piece of toast at 69 Euro but then I remembered that Sweden doesn't use the Euro. 69 Krona comes out to 7.15 USD which I guess is pretty reasonable for a sandwich. You cant even get a fast food burger in the US for less than $7.15 anywhere nowadays.
Okay. It's been three years and it still bugs me. Fish and chips in the UK is not a gourmet, "I made this with a reduction of caviar and ooh so fancy" it's something you either eat at the beach while swatting at seagulls cos they want your chips, or you're pish drunk at 3am and thats what's good. Okay? Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
Yay! Loving the video. Thanks for coming to Malmö!

I always thought that Hygge was a Danish thing, perhaps they stole it. Maybe that's why the Swedes and Danes don't get along so well...
Wow, after watching this video, malmo seems like the place to chill and relax with beautiful weather
14:04 my swedish ass is laughing even though I know it's pronounced ”gatu-shök” 😄😄
I was having a bad day, but Simon and Martina just kill it with the positive attitude ❤️ I love these people
I love how you guys included footage of talking to the locals!
You guys are so professional. Every video on this channel knocks it out of the park!
I really enjoyed this video! As a Malmö local there are so many other places I wish you’d had the chance to try out! But I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you’ll be back soon!
Sweden looks so clean and peaceful
this entire video is just simon and martina fighting over good food im dYing HAHAHHA marriage!!!!
The way you guys talk about food it reminds me of, Marshal, from How I Met Your Mother. Specifically when he talked about the burger. Which is probably the most beautiful, poetic way you ever could. Love, love, LOVE this episode! And now I have more places to add to my bucket list 😍
Literally icons. I'm going to Sendai for Obon week and I planned 3 days, all around food. lmao. Can't wait ! Nice video once again
Such an amazing video, Simon and Martina! You have out done yourselves. You two are so amazing and talented.
Can't believe I'm finally catching S&M live!!!
... Phrasing! ;)
Your videos honestly bring so many people joy and information. I crave your videos like eating coco ichibanya
simon and martina are my travel spirit animals.
It is crazy how you guys made 31-minute-video feel like 5 minutes! Love it and definitely will visit Malmö soon!!!!
I heard Sweden has some great ramen, some chefs are doing interesting things there. You better try some of them while you are there!
@@QueenJaneway Maybe he is referring to a place called Pink Head in Malmö. They have truly great ramen/noodles/ramyeon.
UGHHHH SIGHHHH
*begrudgingly adds Sweden to an ever growing list of places I really want to visit*
xD this trip looks so fun and chill thank you for sharing! I'm happy Malmo reached out to you guys too because this was great
Wow you guys visited my hometown! Thank you for making such a great video, and I hope you will visit here again someday and try Malmö falafel (best in Sweden!!)
This was such a magical video oml you guys are trying out new editing styles and they are amazing!! Scored so well too ~
Oh thank you for noticing! I’m playing with quicker “off beat” music edits and I downloaded a whole bunch of new lofi chill hop type songs. I wanted the video to flow quickly despite it being 30min long 💻
yaaasss been waiting for this video!! This looks amazing
come to london, I can take you on an ice cream tour. Literally, ice cream tour guide is one of my jobs
Hazel DuBourdieu Sounds interesting. If things don’t completely crash after October, I might go there to check out the icecream market for Köld
Yorica! ♡
I hope you find this list useful! All the addresses are in the info box :D
Thank you that was so interesting! came across your channel randomly, will definitely be subscribing for more fun content. ^^
Woohoo! Thank you for subscribing! We've got a fun video in Japan coming next week :D
Just...
God, the way you pronounce hygge is super cute, Martina :D
- a danish fan
In that chequered dress and the hair garland🌼 Martina looks like coming straight out of a Swedish picture book 📗 - wonderful!
He explained why.. it’s now called Fikoretto (fikon is Swedish for figs..)
pretty sure pewds and marzia crack everytime its said between them XD
Ylenia Cesaroni “fiGa”
Volevo commentare la stessa cosa, mi stavo spaccando quando l’hanno detto con tanto entusiasmo😂😂
I’m going to organize a trip to Malmö.
Taking my friends there as well!
I love this so much! Malmö is great, I never got a chance to really go and explore when I was living in Uppsala, but this gives me a lot of reason to go back! Glad you guys had fun!
You’ll never get that great fish and chips in London - you need to be on the coast! Try Cornwall, Devon or the Welsh coast :)
Malmo looks amazing!!
So happy to see you guys happy!
You know that creamy vanilla custard at 16:33? In some parts of Sweden (like Gothenburg where I'm from) it's called "farmors hosta", which means "grandmother's cough".
Do with that information what you will.
Now i know why i always hated that Kind of custard🤣
OMG that little quick cut of Simons face with the kid giggle sound was divine
kold. has. the. best. ice cream. and I think that’s cloudberry + goat’s cheese! their brown butter is also amazing!
Kels Sy You’re right about the Cloudberry. And thanks!
This video is making me homesick, and I'm not even from Sweden. Beautiful work, you guys, thank you for everything you do
omg why didn't you have a meetup I'm sooooooooo sad I live like an hour from Malmö!!! :( but love the video and ur content always makes me happy Love u both!
Hands down the best video of my hometown ever made. So happy to see this and thanks for making it!
The berry in the ice cream is hjortron (cloudberry) i think 😊 I love the long video and your hair looks totally awesome Martina ❤️
Sweden Looks so charming & relaxing
Gaddamit. MALMO IS SOOO BEAUTIFUL. Dont do this to me. I can barely fit all the european countries I want to visit for my 30th bday.
What a fun video! I really liked all the slomo parts. Simon was so funny and I like Martina clothes so much! Also that reverse filming in the ice cream shop was sooo nice
You went to Malmö???!! I study there at the university (of Malmö). Will definitely give your recommendations a try. :D
This went by so fast!! 30mins with you guys flies by! This was such a great videos, the food looks DELICIOUS!!
In Finland Malmö is known for something very different than great food. Surprised how nobody mentioned it in the comments.
I am aware of it as well but probably people that know about it don't want to weigh that negativity down upon Simon and Martina, it's probably still mostly a nice city anyway
Now I’m curious
This is amazing, i love long videos from you guys! Sweden is a country i've always wanted to visit and Malmo was a city i'd never considered but now it's definitely on my list :)
Oat milk is delish 10/10 would recommend 🤪
Bucket List addition: Sweden
I love Malmö💙💙💙💙💙💙
I enjoyed visiting my relatives there, and I can't wait to go there again
12:26 at first I thought this was a very expensive piece of toast at 69 Euro but then I remembered that Sweden doesn't use the Euro. 69 Krona comes out to 7.15 USD which I guess is pretty reasonable for a sandwich. You cant even get a fast food burger in the US for less than $7.15 anywhere nowadays.
this is the best paid video i've ever seen!! amazing!!
