Vanessa Williams is so underrated. Sometimes broadway singers can sound mushy or productive, but she gives just enough. Her classical training shows.

Omg thank you for uploading this! Someone traded me over a year and a half ago and was supposed to send me this... and then never responded to me. So it’s nice to finally see it!

Laura Benanti & Greg Edelson (two of my all time favorites) were so good that it really was centered on Cinderella & the Prince more than the Baker & his wife. The night I saw it, Megan Mullally & Eric McCormack were there. The latter came out in the street during intermission with a friend of his who smoked & I realized how damn short he is.

God, Kerry O’Malley truly was a disaster in this.

I feel for her. It must have been so exciting to take on this role, knowing how wonderful a part it is and who preceded you. And then...bang James Lapine happens. He is a terrible director. The original survived because they had strong personalities who really pushed the jewish styled comedy. But Lapine often veers towards what he thinks is 'reel' and sucks the joy out of a show. His revival of Annie was beyond bad. Casting a comic genius as Miss Hannigan and then not allowing her to be funny?! His understanding of comedy is so sideways. I suspect not all the fault lies at Ms O' Malley's door.

@@bigred8432 You do realize that Lapine not only directed the 2002 revival, he also directed the original staging as well as wrote the book, right?

@@jasobres I absolutely know that. And he is an appalling director. He always has been. He has that dreary syndrome of wanting to always prove his idea is best. The original survived because of the sheer force of the cast. Bernadette Peters was arm twisted into the role because they needed a name and she came in and made it her own, Joanna Gleason and Chip Zien embraced the idea that the script was based on Borscht Belt Jewish humour and ran with it. These were people at the top of their game they Lapine facilitated. In the revival he wanted to prove he could direct and reduced everything to a level of bland, the same way he did with Annie by pontificating about truth and how he wanted more honesty from the text. It's utter hokum and all the shows in his later career have been disasters
