Bandai Namco's very reputation will basically be tested by this game in the eyes of the community. If this game fails, people will absolutely lose faith in Bandai Namco in the same magnitude as people once did and some still do for EA. We can already see the massive pressure that the internet is pushing on this game to be the best game in the entire series of Budokai Tenkaichi and all we have so far is a pretty trailer, one tease and the whole community's undivided attention is now on this game. From what I've already seen, if the game doesn't have all of the previous roster and the characters from Super then in the eyes of the fans the game will be an automatic failure. However with the blind fans, putting their faith in the game and vowing to put in preorders as soon as possible, the game will already be a profit for Bandai Namco no matter what happens.
I think bandai will survive regardless, hell even your example EA survived. But I do sincerely hope they didn't just announce this shit for the money and are actually putting love and care into it.

One detail I love in bt3 is that the white haired ssj4 Gogeta skin is most likely a reference to ssj5 from db AF. So they even referenced fan made stuff.
That's because DBAF and SSJ5 wasn't created by just any random fan. It was created by the guy that draws DB Super.

Not counting Transformation and stuff like Goku (mid) I guess 50 chars as base game, plus movies, gt and og dragon ball as dlc who bring a total of 25 to 30 extra chars
My main worry is that, in order to give the game a more balanced roster with more complex mechanics, the number of characters will be greatly reduced.
Tenkaichi 3 is a very "quantity over quality" game, the simplicity of the mechanics and the fact a lot of characters are copied or barely usable don't matter because of the sheer amount of things you can do. You can spend hours just making out battle scenarios for fun.
I definitely wouldn't expect any content from the manga though. It'd be harder to translate their moves without them being animated, and manga only characters like Moro and Granolah don't have voices yet.
yeah I mostly agree with this and honestly I'm kinda torn on which I think would be better. Most of my time on this game will definitely be online so I'd like to see that balanced but it would be cool to see all of the flavor of the old DB games come back for sure.
@@matti.8465 yeah, maybe it's a reach but seeing blue goku on Namek to me was kind've a teaser for that but maybe im reading too much into it. Wouldn't be the first time a DB game got characters/voices/etc. before it was animated though iirc. I suppose there's also a chance they go the Dragon Ball Heroes/OC route with something like Android 21 being the driving force behind the story instead of canon Super material, either way they have a lot of content to adapt and a lot of potential roster choices if they just wanna go DBZ > DBS (maybe even some dragon ball or gt as well)

I definitely feel like they could make voices for the manga characters. If a mobile game like Bleach Brave Souls could cast good voices for thousand year blood war characters, some even having the same voice in the New anime adaptation, like Ywach, a game as massive as BT4 should have almost no excuse. I do admit though that it could be a bit hard.
I expect 120 characters at least at launch. Yes, there will be dlc. But I try to think logically. Z movies can be dlc. But nobody will really be excited for characters like Guldo, Raditz, Nappa and Dabura as dlc.

120 base or with transformations? and yeah you're right about the dlc strategy, I think for sure GT will likely end up there as marketing wise they have big names (ssj4, gogeta, uub, shenron, baby) but it would be hard to fit them into the base roster

ninja storm 4 from 2015 had up to 100 characters (No DLC), i don't see why they'd have to drop out characters for something like "Budokai Tenkaichi" thats majorly reputable for its roster size, characters do not need to be the things that are DLCs.
They could have DLCs for stuff like BT 123 original soundtracks, DBS continuation season pass, currency (high Zeni), unique customization items (Z-items), costume bundles like DBS baseball bundle, DBS ranger bundle (for characters that wore them), ...
Storm 4 was more of a sequel technologically than this BT4 game will be (unless they do something crazy like use the db kakarot engine) since it came out only 2 years after revolution. So gotta take that into account in terms of total development work to achieve those 100 characters, I don't think you're wrong though they could go all out with putting in a bunch of characters and there's tons of other options for DLC but knowing bandai i'm not sure I believe that they will.
Even if it doesn’t live up to expectations people will carry it to expectations

Honestly you have to expect Some of these things to def be in the game the rest you just have to pray that them showing the previous titles in the trailer is a sign they KNOW we want everything from the previous games
If they can’t have everyone from the previous game plus new characters up until the TOP arc….then we don’t need a Tenkaichi 4!!! That’s how I feel about the whole situation
lmao I feel u but u gotta realize though that they basically have to start from scratch on all of those characters. the trailer did look a bit like db kakarot so maybe they can pull some assets from that game but this is not a true sequel to BT3 the way storm 4 was to rev for example
Your expectations are way too unrealistic. Patience my friend, the game won’t launch with the same amount of characters but it will eventually most likely surpass it.

@@bigt100 you have no idea how game development goes do you. They have to build all new assets for this game. Games are far more detailed these days and this in turn makes development take longer. If we were to expect the same amount of characters on release then this game would at least need 4-5 years of development time. It’s not about games being “unfinished”. It’s about quality this day and age. I’d rather have 90 unique characters rather than reskins of the same character.
I hope two things:
- Large roaster, I really love quantity over quality, the BT3 combat system was simple but effective, and I think that many characters can be tweaked to be similar (Burter like Dyspo for example). I think that Bandai can learn a lot from BT3 modders in this case
- Huge personalization: Make the game be built by che community if you can't put so much effort in designing a 200+ roaster.
Make your character moveset to be customized, so for example I can have my Goku with Kaioken Attack and Kamehameha, but you may prefer a Goku with Meteor Attack and a Super Explosion Wave... Make small adjustements to the same techniques. I can have a Kamehameha that consume 1 bar of Ki but makes less damage or a Super Kamehameha that deals more damage but uses more Ki, or perhaps a fixed Kamehameha who deal fixed damage and consume a fixed amount of Ki or a charged one that work differently.
I mean, I think that there are ways to create a wonderful game with some tricks. They implemented different ways to customize in the past (Budokai, Xenoverse, Kakarot, etc..).
I really want that they can keep an eye in this direction, I know the aspect of a competitive environment but BT3 meant also fun, creating scenarios with potaras and secondary characters, and Imagine to have an editor to do that.

The roster has to be insanely good as Budokai Tenkaichi 3, and I really do hope they'll let us be able to pick the different forms we would like to fight with for a lot of the characters. It's something that FighterZ doesn't really have all to much of that disappointed me, and I really hope they look at the third game and draw the inspiration from that game. Going back to the roster though, it has the potential to be super massive. Characters from Dragon Ball, Z, GT, Super, and possibly even manga characters as well. We'll have the ability to unlock a good chunk through the story mode, and then they'll make the others DLC because that's the norm these days.
The game will be massive. Just by looking at how they supported Xenoverse for so many years. They really don’t have any options here. While I don’t think we’re getting anywhere close to the amount of characters that 3 had. I do think we’ll have a sizable chunk on release. I’d say around 90 characters at start is being fair.

I just wonder if the game will be able to be considered good enough for the competitive scene, as in would it be considered good enough for EVO?
@@bigt100 As in when selecting your character that you want to play, it has all the other different forms you can choose from if you want to use one of them. That's what I loved about the third game, and was disappointed that FighterZ doesn't really have much of that to offer.
@@officerzack1108 Honestly I really don’t want this to be a competitive game tbh. BT3 had little to no balance and honestly that’s what made it so fun. The Tenkaichi series is less a fighting game and more just a dragon ball simulator. I just want that scale of battle that the original trilogy had. But if we constantly worry about balance off rip the gameplay is gonna suffer because of it.
I will be happy with the character roster being between 60 and 80 (without transformations) and my greatest wish is the customization options of the characters to be like the one present in super dragon ball z .(that would give more flavor to the characters in my opinion)
As someone who's a diehard DBZ fan and played all the DBZ games as a kid, the budokai tenkaichi series was handsdown my all time favorite games to play. It was genuinely interactive and insanely fun with badass music to choose from in the background. The dragonball franchise has went downhill over the years and everything feels like a cashgrab now. DBFZ and kakarot (which I hardly even play now) were the latest games that is very popular but most of my favorite characters are DLC and that is one that worries me heavy. I do not want to pay for Z broly as a DLC because he should already be included! If BT1/2/3 are still popular to this day, developers and the entire board have to get it through their heads that they don't have to change SHIT but copy and improve the mechanics,roster,design, and maps. IDGAF about 5k quality pretty graphics with a 50203320 GB download and DLCS. The mod community thankfully are saviors against big corporation companies that drain the fanbase pockets. If money wasn't an issue, I wouldn't mind but with inflation happening now, it makes it harder to enjoy gaming. I feel like this might be a flop but everyone is crossing their fingers on this and cheering for the underdogs.

I think part of why the roster was so great was it had the different eras of character. Like goku ( mid era ) super saiyan was fucking peak. It just had all the small details and love that made it perfect

Yeah that’s a good starting amount and the transformations and fusions should not count as characters as they should stay as one character instead of taking up a character slot like modern dragon ball games do.
The thing that makes these games stand out is attention to detail. Something that is missing in the game dev and software industry in general. These industries have generated a lot of money and as a result a lot of project management processes(bs like agile) have been implemented to make devs more 'efficient'. Not to mention more managers being crammed into projects to micro manage devs. This is partly why easter eggs are rare in newer games.... devs are pushed to get work done asap and anything they work on has to be approved by a project manager that usually doesn't give a shit about the franchise or games in general.
Simply put, these days increasing profits with minimal work is more important than making a good enjoyable game with attention to detail. Something like original dbz games would only be possible in a crowd-funded indie studio. Not something aaa with greedy investors/higher ups who don't care about games.
Im not sure if CaCs would be a good idea. You can never play your favorite characters in multi-player because everyone plays their broken CaCs that kill you off of one stamina break.

Their greedy business practices are a major concern for me too.
I just hope the are able to recapture the feeling of the games with updates to the graphics and slight updates to the mechanics. I really hope they don’t mess up the gameplay and dumb it down or make it unrecognizable

"Do I want the other characters to look as good as that?"
"Do I want them to be able to redo attacking and transforming animations that make the previous entry look lesser in comparison?"

With so many characters and transformations in super. I'm worried is the little characters like Grandpa Gohan, Yajirobe and Mercenary Tao going to the chopping block. Even Appule and Frieza Soldier #2 are good handicap characters. You know to give to that one friend that wins every match. It will surprise me greatly if they decide to go even beyond tenkaichi 3 roster. Bring people like teen Chi-Chi.

Hey you can’t forget about android 873 that Moro fused with. That is literally one of the best androids we’ve seen. They should also had the guy that Moro gave a lot of power to and it too UI omen to put him down lol. A few more of the prisoners moro gave power to as well would be cool.
I think they might condense the roster by making transformation apart of the characters instead if them being considered there own character on the roster spot like how raging blast 2 and xenoverse

You hit the nail on the head with the DLC packs, I'm a huge Gundam fan but the amount of DLC packs they always make for a gundam game and the price is staggering, look at Gundam VS to get the whole roster in it, it took over 200$ to get it, why I switched to Gundam Extreme VS Maxi Boost ON because it had a bigger base roster without the huge DLC cost.

Thats actually pretty solid base roster if I say so myself. Honestly can see dlc packs being release like xenoverse but hopefully with more then 2 or 3 characters per pack. Also probably drop them by theme for example. Z movie villain pack 1, 2, & 3, GT pack 1&2, OG DB pack, T.O.P pack, Extra Dbz character pack, and more. There is alot of characters that have Similar move sets so maybe they can just make them costumes or echo fighters like from smash.

Dragon ball fans would truly be happy if they made a giant roster like bt3 and a long story mode like bt2 only iy starts with dragon ball story mode unlockable and z unlockable and if u start with ball u get more items to equip to your characters in the story mode like how bt2 and tenkaichi tag team had it
the story mode should go from z to a choice or super or gt but super should br the main focus and having movie characters would be an amazing nostalgic bonus that wouldn’t be required but would be really marketable to older people who played the game

I'm actually on the same page as you, I do actually expect the roster to be small... and then, old characters get sold to us in dlc. For example, a 'dragonball pass' to play as kid goku, tao, roshi(or they might just take super roshi), arale maybe, Nam maybe, devilman maybe, ect. or the gt pass.
then if this game does well they'll make bt5 which has all those chars and add more and more, similar to how they did it with budokai tenkaichi where they just ported stuff over and added new characters. Either way this game will disappoint a lot of people for sure myself included as I really like the old dragonball characters and designs and stuff, but it'll be a new good start. Probably. Not excited to pay for DLC i'll tell ya that much though.
as long as we have at bare minimum 64 characters not counting forms im happy, because thats how many were in the OG tenkaichi

That's one thing I'm worried about. Please don't seperate characters based on Era. That was the one thing i never like in any game. If anything, do what raging blast did and let us choose moves for that transformation. I liked that a lot. They had moves for that transformation from all eras. You got to choose which move you liked. U think that'll be best.
They should add characters from other games. 5 come to mind. Android 21, Shalot, Giblet, Shallet, and Ozotto.
There are gonna be unhappy fans regardless but I think my biggest worry is that they are gonna cut but on the roaster too much and in result have to half-ass the story mode which was one thing that was always great in the Tenkaichi games.

i'd be happy with 140 at the start but i can live with 100/110 as the roster size but even that might be too high for them to do
in my opinion 60 characters would be amazing to start the game, also DLC packs later on would be great tbh
Super is popular right now so if you're only having 60 characters you're going to be losing characters from the older rosters, like Hercule or Mecha Frieza.

Having GT characters is a must have. And honestly we dont need super amasing graphics. Just give us and insane combat.
