Dude, we must be the same age because you summed up my experience with (and feelings about) the Star Wars Holiday Special to a tee. Being a kid in that generation when all we had was the first Star Wars film, and the only way to see it was at the theater. Which had us starving for more Star Wars and made seeing those characters on TV (in ANY context, even on when they appeared on The Muppet Show) seem like a special occasion. I love what you said about how our generation was used to variety shows (which were normal in the 1970s but must be huge part of the culture shock for younger generations only seeing the Holiday Special for the first time now) and how we developed a skill for tuning out the parts we didn't like. SO TRUE. But the thing you said I maybe related to the most... How you didn't see the Holiday Special again between the ages of 6-40. And how, when you finally did see it again at 40, that moment you'd completely forgotten about, where the Stormtroopers ransack Lumpy's bedroom, really hit you... DUDE. I had that EXACT same reaction. The moment when they rip the toy Bantha's head off almost made me misty-eyed because I literally hadn't see that since I was six and it drudged up my childhood reaction. Crazy the way the human brain works with stuff like that. Anyway, great video, you described the Star Wars Holiday Special experience - from a 1970s kid's point of view - perfectly.

You made my day with this comment Bryan - we need to start a support group for kids who were traumatized by the destruction of Lumpy's toys
