    This is a beautiful shade. I’m drawn to apricots and pinks but there is a place for every color rose in my garden. I love that there is such a variety of scents, fruity being my favorite.

    Gorgeous red rose! Love red roses with old rose fragrance, especially Damask. Shared this rose with my daughter who too is trying her hand at growing roses! I love pink, red and purple roses...all must have a sweet scent! Thank you for sharing your roses with us! Always makes me happy to look and learn about them!

    I love old rose scents! And fruity, too. I am currently working to add some darker pinks and reds to my garden. I have a couple arriving this spring! I'm trying to have a wide array of colors for interest and also arrangements. This one is beyond gorgeous! I love the full and ruffled center 😍

    She is lovely indeed. Fragrance is one of the most important things to me in a rose- to the point that it’s disqualifying if absent! I’m newly discovering the deeper colored roses- like DAs PAOK, the Prince and Falstaff (all coming to my garden this spring!) and Rouge Royale and Rose de Rescht- being one of the most fragrant roses known. I think Lovely Lady would be incredible with this collection- I love the pearled fullness, and the depth of her coloring. I would love to see her aged blooms and know if she ages more purple (I’m really crazy about Ebb Tide and Twilight Zone- deep deep purple with amazing scents, ALSO coming to my garden this year!) or is a truer red rose. And you mentioned that one of her seed parents is a climber- does she seem to be growing like a climber?

    • @duanesroses
      @duanesroses  8 місяців тому +1

      Thank you! I love red roses, but also love (even more if possible) the darker colors. Rose de Rescht can capture any heart, especially with that fragrance! Falstaff is exquisite. Twilight zones color as well.
      I would recommend, if you can find it available somewhere Munstead Wood (English Rose) it has this deep, dark color and the fragrance is unbelievable!
      This rose (Lovely Lady) has a purplish tinged edge. Also, this seems to increase with the age of the bloom. The old rose fragrance certainly suits the bloom.

    • @krystiedemello5470
      @krystiedemello5470 8 місяців тому +1

      Oh thank you! Oh she sounds even more exquisite now! I love that you recommended Munstead Wood! I was fortunate enough to get my bare root order in with DA very quickly last year, and have a Munstead Wood coming! I’m thinking it’ll probably be early April for where I’m at, but we’ll see. I have an exciting spring ahead in my garden. At some point I’d love to add your entire Love series to my gardens. 🌹🦋

    Another winner! What a labor of love - how long have you spent discovering and growing these new varieties? I love all the petals, and the old rose scent is one of my favorites! Is the color similar to Thomas A Beckett?

    • @duanesroses
      @duanesroses  8 місяців тому

      I have not seen Thomas Becket in person yet, so I can’t compare. I would say it is a pure red, fairly red not bright pink. It sometimes gets a purple tint to the outer petals, especially as the bloom ages. Maybe the darker tint keeps it from fading towards pink, like so many red seedlings I have seen so far.

    • @alexandrastrelow4126

    Whoa, what a looker! Loving the crimson red and purple tones, and the ruffled petals! You’d think all roses have that old rose scent but it’s actually more rare, which makes this rose even more special.
    Definitely a favor scent of mine, though I’d say I lean more towards fruity and myrrh. I have one lavender Poseidon rose that I love, and I have a Munstead Wood which is similar to this one in ways. Ebb Tide is one that’s been on my list because of the purple color and I hear the scent is fantastic.

      Thank you! I am working on breeding with this one: a lot of Lilian Austin seedlings end up blending old rose with myrrh fragrance. I won’t be surprised if the myrrh comes out in seedlings from this one at some point. It hasn’t worked as a seed parent, so focusing on pollen now! I am waiting on crosses with Tuscany Supern to bloom.

    Lovely Lady is beautiful. I think that red roses do a good job at breaking the colors of mostly pinks and yellows. I like how Lovely Lady isn’t too bright of a red.

    • @duanesroses
      @duanesroses  8 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! Yes, a little variety is great to break the sameness.
      For myself it is important not to overdo it, especially reds and yellows, as they seem to have a lot of impact compared to the shades of pink.

      @@duanesroses I LOVE HER!!! My favorite white-ish Austin. I also like Desdemona but her blooms nod more but i like some nodding roses. They give a more old rose appearance. My don't like that, but i've noticed 'nodders' handle a lot of rain, which we seldom have here, better than a stiff upright hybrid tea type. They do stand up but the blooms are water logged and dont seem to last as long. There are a LOT of peonys grown back home as it was zone 5b and cemeteries are packed with them! i notice they do the same 'nodding' rain shedding stance as old roses do to get rid of rain. I have Tranquility also but i dont recommend her in the USA! I didnt know a rose could make Black Spot until i grew her!! she wasnt in the ground a month until she was covered and self defoliated entirely 3 times before frost. So as i've said before, many Austins are getting shovel pruned when your roses are made available ! I know you get sick and tired of hearing that, but better than, meh your roses are as common as dirt!
