Even tho you think these are repetitive, they’re actually great for those of us who have been following for a long time and can see how long you’ve been using certain things, how you still like them and how you go about replacing what no longer serves you. I love them honestly!
Tip: For people who have a girlfriend collective fanny pack you can attach the basic bath and body works hand sanitizer holder to the zipper. I dont buy refills I just use the same bottle and refill it at the grocery store as they now have them at every entrance now. Obviously dont buy new B&BW but if you have it laying arround it's very convenient in quickly opening my bag
I have that same backpack in black. The sleeve where she keeps the portable charger is actually the water bottle holder. They advertised that it can carry a full bottle of wine. The lining on the inside keeps any liquid from leaking into your bag. It fits my 22 oz Iron Flask water bottle just fine. The company has a lifetime warranty, if anything on your bag rips or gets damage they will fix it for free. I love this bag, completely worth the price.
I really like your water bottle. Things that have been used for years, customised with loads of stickers and are beaten up have their own aesthetic - it's like you get a little glimpse of memories every time you use it
Shelby, your videos have inspired me to transform my life over the past few years. I am wondering, would you be willing to do a video on homeowner zero waste swaps for minimalists/new home owners (the essentials), I am on a budget and I would so appreciate to see a breakdown of the savings/environmental impact annually of using eco friendly/single use swaps
Love my hydro flask…I’ve had mine for 8 years, it’s beat up to hell from climbing and hiking, and has about 7 layers of stickers on it. Never without it!
I remember taking a tiffin box to school always. We would even carry meals for long trips. 😊They've probably been around since before I was born. Seeing one makes me so nostalgic for some reason 😄😄 They are super versatile! In Mumbai city, huge tiffins are used to deliver food to thousands of people every single day.
I was wondering if you could do a video around how big the Kardashian's carbon footprint is.. I know its not your typical videos but I thought especially now after Kylie Jenner taking a 15 minute private jet during a major climate crisis, it might be a hot topic. I think Kim's skincare brand says that i uses less plastic which would be completely hypocritical to how they live with their huge carbon footprint and water waste.
Random fact my grandma told me: you are aloud to bring wooden knitting needles on a plane, but not metal. So the same probably goes for all cutlery and some other sharp objects. That’s how I was able to get away with knitting in elementary school as well. Because I was able to say “they’re wood and I can bring them on a plane, so I don’t see why I can’t have them here”
As someone who uses a smaller purse but always keeps a re-usable bag on me- use the little clips to clip them to a buckle on your fanny pack's strap, or the bag itself, and you'll be able to take a re-usable bag or two with you no matter the size of your bag
I know this isn't quite aligned with your usual content, but could you make a vid about how you care for your stasher/silicone bags? Especially if I put oily things in it or just washing it, I find that there's always residue I can't get off and the bags will take on odor and um give it to whatever food I put in it next.
Try soaking the silicone in hot water with baking soda and few drops of detergent. I use blue Dawn (not the most eco friendly, but it really works for removing grease.)
Thank you, this video it's really useful, now I know where to look for good quality swaps since living in Mexico it's really difficult to find a good sustainable swap and for a good price, the majority of the things I found are overpriced or green washing and also I only can found them on the higher class area, so the majority of the time I end up making it myself like the reusable bags
Love this video and that we really get to see how you use the same items for a long time! Really inspiring to keep using what we have. I wanted to mention the idea of reef-safe sunscreen. While I wouldn't want to harm the coral reefs, there isn't really good scientific evidence that supports that chemical spf filters are causing coral bleaching in the ocean and that zinc oxide or titanium dioxide aren't. In fact, many coral scientists argue that this conversation about "reef-safe" sunscreens is detracting from the main threats to coral including chemical run-off from fertilizer and warming of the oceans. Lab Muffin Beauty Science has a great youtube video called "Reef-Safe Sunscreen? The Science" summarizing these points with examples of the scientific literature that currently exists. Recommend checking it out! Of course, a sunscreen manufacturer's ethical and sustainable practices are important to consider regardless. Please also remember that wearing sunscreen is important for your health so finding one that you will actually wear is the best option.
Last year my aunt lost her sunglasses at a beach in South Carolina while she was in the water. The next day we all went to that beach and were walking along the shore. I spotted some glasses washed up, not knowing she lost them and I was like perfect I could use some sunglasses. Then my aunt noticed they were hers that she lost! Then the next day one of my relatives found sunglasses while we were all sitting in the water. Now I have those sunglasses in my car for when I need them when I drive. So many sunglasses get lost in the ocean it seems like but at least sometimes someone will find them again and hopefully put them to good use!
I caved last fall and got myself an Idaho Jones Pumping bag. Probably the best purchase I've made in the past year. After I had my daughter we weren't able to make nursing work so I started exclusively pumping which meant everytime I left the house I also had to bring my pump, pumping parts, and a breastmilk in a cooler with ice on top of the basic baby essentials. I was lagging around my old backpack as a diaper bag, an old cooler bag, and another bag that came with my pump. It was such a pain! I was able to fit everything from those 3 bags into my Idaho Jones bag since it has a built in collapsible cooler compartment that I use for milk and food with an ice pack. Honestly I would recommend it to anyone, not just parents, it's so amazing.
Love the bum bag! (We don't call them fanny packs in the UK) I bought one when I started university 9 years ago and it's still going strong, mines wasn't sustainably made or anything just affordable at the time but I'm making the the most from what I have
Love this! Love that you do it every year because it helps us know what’s lasting and what isn’t. That’s the screen I use! It is a little pricey but the quality and the tinted sunscreen is amazing. I have the smaller face stick and the tin (they came out with the bigger stick recently). Having a good go to sunscreen makes it easier for me to put sunscreen on everyday. Especially my face!
This is such a good video to show the durability of certain products, like I’ve seen every one of these you’ve made and the fact that you have pretty much the same things still is awesome!
I work in a hospital. The single use plastic is INSANE. Especially after covid with the infection control & all that. Are there any solutions that you know of to help reduce this waste? Love your videos!
Really considering repairability as well! Bought some boots last year and went with a classic look and good year welt so I can replace the soles so hopefully these boots will last a lifetime!!
Long time watcher! Hi from North Texas! I've learned so much from you! Please consider making a video about: 1) solar panels on homes (Is this a good idea? Why or why not?? In Texas we have sun and HEAT!) and 2) environmental-social-governance (ESG) index funds for investing! Americans invest (at least) MILLIONS of dollars into these companies through our retirement accounts and I'd rather not pay to increase the stock prices of unethical companies! (Do you think these are overall good/bad? A good start into new territory?) I invite others to comment or like if you're interested too!
Hey. Cool video. Not a mum or anything but maybe you could do a video looking into sustainable toys or toy brands. I think it'd be interesting to see how many things people can buy
Hello! I’d love to hear about your bug out bag & emergency kits and if you have found any sustainable swaps etc. I’m currently setting up first aid kits for my home & car and there is a lot of recommendations. I’m trying to reuse where I can but obviously with medical stuff the priority is hygiene.
I just wanna say that I am an elder millennial and thankfully I work with college kids and that’s the only thing that keeps me hip and in the know with things like “Fanny packs are back” etc 😂 I love you for letting the people know.
Pela is great for iPhone users but not much of android. Last I saw they didn't provide it. I got a new phone (my Samsung s10+ was on a verge breaking) they didn't even have the phone case so I honestly kinda give up. I do sent them monthly emails to give more options for other phone users that's not Apple products
I have been using the same few plastic disposable straws for a couple years. If I ever get a to go drink when I go out to eat I just keep them. Little soap once every few days and they’re basically good forever. Oh, and free 😹
I have the same bag! Day owl's sustainable efforts and quality is what won me over to splurge on a new bag. Using for a few months and it's great. So excited to see that sunscreen. I am so going to try it out
With me being in my own apartment for the first time I realized recently how often I use ziplock bags and once my disposables run out I will use Stasher bags that I am buying within the next couple days cuz they are on sale cuz of plastic free july
I considered Pela when I had to replace my broken pair but wasn’t sure about paying $80 when I am used to $10. Well I ended up paying $20 for a $50 pair and realized that even though they are still plastic there is a difference in quality, sigh. All that to say next time I have to replace my sunglasses I will splurge and get Pela ones. I am working on switching to more plastic free and reusable everyday items, even though I already did a little, but often I completely forget so it requires constant mental adjustment.
There are so many comments but I wanted to say I have some Chums that keep my glasses on anytime I go swim in the beach/river/pool and will never leave the house without them. I do not know or think Chums are sustainable but I’m sure you can find a similar brand that is that gets the job done to keep your sunglasses on your person when you’re in the water. ☺️
i just rediscovered my old fanny pack from when i was in high school and wore it all week on vacation the ~trendy~ way and it is indeed a total game changer. I keep my Chico bag, sunglasses, wallet and lip balm in there - perfect for when you don’t feel like carrying around a big bag. I need to try that sunblock!
I LOVE the A Good Company 3-in-1 charger! It is stupid handy and let me really minimize how many cords I had (turns out it’s easy it keep 15+ cords if you know you need different ports). I’ve also been using the Chico bags for years and keep gifting them to others. They’re so tiny and perfect for folks constantly forgetting their reusable bags.
I have a question, Shelbi! I'm a fan of getting takeout just bc eating out for me isn't just a social thing, I want to try new foods. however, I hate how much plastic containers or even "paper" waste it produces. Do you have any suggestions on how to reduce waste on that front?
Bring your own containers to see if they are willing to use them instead of their own plastic packaging :) And it’s super easy to bring your own silverware as well- just state that you won’t be needing utensils
Maybe ask the businesses about their packaging. A few might have materials other than plastic. I wish more gave the option, even if they charge a couple cents more. Besides that, there’s the bag, utensils, napkins & condiments.
Chico bags are soooooo good! My only issue is the way they bundle up and take up a lot of space in my purse. I would love for you to review Baggu because theirs fold up flat which would be better for smaller purses. Not going to stop using my Chico bags, but would love another option when I want to use a smaller bag.
It’s a really great ethical company, and their stuff tends to last, some of my clothes have been taken out (you can get a couple of extra inches out of the back of their trousers easily) and in many times (yeah, that long!) but don’t mention the kanken, I had one for many years and loved it, but then they got trendy and somebody nicked mine :-(
The fact that you keep using your water bottle even tho it’s dented and Color scratches, it’s been through a lot with you hahah, other people I know once it’s dented they throw it out!!! It’s insane. I love your videos so much!
Does the grippy on the phone case prevent the phone from wireless charging? That's the thing that has kept me from getting a pop socket etc for years, but I loved having something to help me hold my phone in my tiny hands before wireless charging!
Thank you so much for sharing! I have been looking for the perfect sustainability made backpack for work for a while now. The Day Owl bag is exactly what I need!
So many great tips! Especially the tiffin, I'm surprised I never thought about bringing my own container for left overs after eating at a restaurant. However, I did think about asking a restaurant to prepare my take out in my own tupperwear rather than getting so many of those plastic containers. I ended up figuring that may be a bit much and maybe an odd request. Has anyone tried this? lol
I love that you have your globe necklace in every video! Sustainable jewellery as well as clothing! My "go to" necklace is my trusty 90s style sun and moon necklace in sterling silver. It used to be my beloved menorah necklace, but I'm a bit wary of anti-Jewish racism now, which is a huge shame. I still wear it for Erev Shabbat and at my synagogue, though. Gosh! I remember your 2019 video. I can't believe I've been following your channel for so long! It doesn't feel as long as that. I'm pleased that you have a new, sustainable backpack to replace the one that wore out. As for me, my 25 year old Kipling drawstring backpack and my Fjallraven ReKanken are still going strong and are currently being packed for our vacation in Germany. We're going on the Eurostar. Birmingham to Cologne; all rail travel! I know a good trick for keeping your shades or prescription glasses to your head, by the way. Wind a pair of hair ties or around the arms of the glasses until they are almost too tight to wind any further. Then thread a small section of your hair through the hair ties, like a miniature ponytail. This keeps them clamped to your ears. Be careful when you remove them, though. Hold your hair section and ease the hair tie back to gently release your hair. Perhaps ask Madison to help you. Good to see you looking well. I hope Madison is doing well too and of course Tippy the Cat! xx
Sucks that you can’t wear your menorah necklace:/ hopefully they’ll be a day no one has to worry about race/sex/religion, etc. even if it’s not in our lifetime. Also have a great vacation :)!!
I’m not sure if you have already done this or not but can we get a tattoo video of all your tats and piercings if you have any we don’t see? I’m super curious and it would be a little outside the box 📦
I love my Day Owl backpack! I got it while pregnant to attach to a rolling bag I use at work. Also better for your back than lugging around a massive purse! 😜❤️
I feel you on spicy food. I’m pregnant and I’ve continued to eat chili almost daily. I’m waiting for the alleged pregnancy heartburn to happen but so far so good. Siracha is a must have for me too
Love hearing about tried and true. The sunscreen looks great and I really want to try a Tiffen this year. When my old sunglasses finally break I am going to get a pair from Pela. I am so lucky to live in Denver there are several zero-waste stores and local companies that make sustainable products. I love going to find new sustainable and refillable products at my local refill shop, Joyfill.
I have reusable straws and was good at using them etc, I can't drink without one I have sensitive teeth. But recently I lost the carrying case for them so I cant bring them as much cause dust etc. I'm planning on buying another pair for travel and just leave the other ones at home lol
finally have some time to watch this video, I hope you see this! But I always use a carabiner clip for my hydro and clip it to my backpack, purse, fanny pack, etc. Hope this helps! Love you and your videos
I desperately wanted a phone case that had a card slot but I didn't want to buy a whole new one. So instead I found a magnetized cardholder that was supposed to attach to a special magnetized case and I just super glued to my regular phone case. It works great and with the glue it actually attaches better than it would if I used the magnet.
Wow I don’t know if you did it for me since I asked last time for sustainable sunscreen options or if it was just by random chance but thanks for the tip!
Hey Girl! We love you and your videos! Thank you! I thought you had a loose 🐦 in your house behind you, but it was your kitty's ear flicking. Lol! Have a great weekend!
Question, when needing to replace an item, say a backpack, is it better to go to a charity/thift shop and buy a second hand one, that may have a brand name on it that isnt "eco" OR buy an eco friendly one & support that business, but cause demand when there are 2nd hand items out there.....?????!!!!!
good to know about the sunscreen because it's at where I buy my produce, Mari's Garden. I'd get it but I have so much sunscreen right now. I gotta admit, I'm not doing so well at plastic free July.
I had wanted peela for my phone case but they don't specify if they're gonna send you from USA or Europe and I'm from Europe and if they send USA I pay almost double in duties. I asked them if they could guarantee a delivery from EU and they said they can't.
I was really sad to see that Pela increased their prices. I understand investing in good quality products, but it's hard to justify $60 for a phone case. I really like the brand and wish it was more accessible to everyone. Guess I'll have to take really good care of the Pela case I already have but I don't think I'll be able to afford a new one if I change my phone in the future :(
I agree, especially when other phone cases do last as long if you’re just careful. When I got a new phone, I had to wait a few months until I could afford a new pela case
Right?! I just went to buy a new one bc mine broke and I was shocked! There was no way I paid that much for my first one….needless to say I’m taking extra special care with my new one
It would be great if they could stop wrapping almost every food in plastic, its nearly impossible to avoid or even use a low amount of single use plastic because of how much of the food is wrapped in it. I really like this channel and it has inspired me to make some changes like putting my food in bokashi (I still try not to waste, and most I throw in there are things like coffee grit and fruit peels) and changed away from using coffee capsules to a coffee press instead, just as an example. Im still not perfect and have things Im not willing to give up, but this channel reminds me to be a bit more actively conscious
Hey Shelbi, if I could recommend a backpack to you it would be a company called Grünbag, I would consider you to check them out, they are a Danish company who reuse materials such a Tarpaulin from Lorry’s and materials from life rafts and Sails, I have personally been using this bag for over a year and have yet to see any wear and tear and on the plus side it has two water bottle holders which I use for my coffee cup and water bottle. 😊
Even tho you think these are repetitive, they’re actually great for those of us who have been following for a long time and can see how long you’ve been using certain things, how you still like them and how you go about replacing what no longer serves you. I love them honestly!

I’ve been doing this for years so long I have the square shaped bottle. 😂 Highly recommend this swap!
@@katelyna8152 lol same!! Been reusing the same square bottle since I was in middle school. I graduated college last year 😅🤣

That’s a great idea my mom’s a landlord and I’d like too encourage her to make more eco friendly decisions
this is such a good video idea!
I’ve used final straw for two years and a waiter complimented me. “Oh you’ve got your own straw, that’s pretty cool.” 🙂
Love my hydro flask…I’ve had mine for 8 years, it’s beat up to hell from climbing and hiking, and has about 7 layers of stickers on it. Never without it!

YES!! I would love to see that kind of video😍❤️❤️❤️
This would be fab!! 🎉
Don't give them more attention. That largely fuels them :(
Pretty sure one of them changed their carpet for their kids birthday party recently.

Get an S-hook or other carabiner clip so that you can hang your canteen on your backpack. That's how we do it.
As someone who uses a smaller purse but always keeps a re-usable bag on me- use the little clips to clip them to a buckle on your fanny pack's strap, or the bag itself, and you'll be able to take a re-usable bag or two with you no matter the size of your bag

Your hair looks gorgeous!!! Can we have a zero waste/sustainable hair routine???
I believe she already does but I'll warn yo, she doesn't use conditioner.
I want to know how she curls her hair bc I saw in another vid she doesn’t have heat tools!
@@SophieBeal16 yes, I'm interested in her curling method.
Thank you, this video it's really useful, now I know where to look for good quality swaps since living in Mexico it's really difficult to find a good sustainable swap and for a good price, the majority of the things I found are overpriced or green washing and also I only can found them on the higher class area, so the majority of the time I end up making it myself like the reusable bags

i carabiner my water bottle to the bottom of the back pack strap then i also have a carabiner to clip my bag to a grocery cart when shopping.
day owl also has the option to shop second hand, love that.
The side pocket that you keep your power bank in is actually a water bottle holder and can fit a whole bottle of wine. It’s just not for wider bottles
Can you do a video showing us what you put in your emergency go bag?!

I have a question, Shelbi! I'm a fan of getting takeout just bc eating out for me isn't just a social thing, I want to try new foods. however, I hate how much plastic containers or even "paper" waste it produces. Do you have any suggestions on how to reduce waste on that front?
Bring your own containers to see if they are willing to use them instead of their own plastic packaging :)
And it’s super easy to bring your own silverware as well- just state that you won’t be needing utensils
Maybe ask the businesses about their packaging. A few might have materials other than plastic. I wish more gave the option, even if they charge a couple cents more.
Besides that, there’s the bag, utensils, napkins & condiments.
Love the Little Hands sunscreen! I have the version in the tin too.
I was wondering where you got your new backpack! It's super cute. Love to see your zero waste bag essentials every year!
Look at that!!! Plastic free month is July and I’m new to the zero waste movement AND IM A JULY BABYYYY 🥰🥰
Chico bags are soooooo good! My only issue is the way they bundle up and take up a lot of space in my purse. I would love for you to review Baggu because theirs fold up flat which would be better for smaller purses. Not going to stop using my Chico bags, but would love another option when I want to use a smaller bag.
If speaking of backpacks- what do you think about fjallraven kanken, or overall about the company’s sustainability?
I love Day Owl so freaking much!
Thank you so much for sharing! I have been looking for the perfect sustainability made backpack for work for a while now. The Day Owl bag is exactly what I need!
Would a water bottle holder be easy to sew onto the backpack? Now I’m thinking about the pockets n things I could sew into my bags
@@batmansuenos Thank you. ❤
Would loooove some sunscreen recommendations!
I’m not sure if you have already done this or not but can we get a tattoo video of all your tats and piercings if you have any we don’t see? I’m super curious and it would be a little outside the box 📦
Just wanted to say I love that you’ve been posting on Thursdays lately :) also, loved this video!
Thanks for considering the natural thing💚💚
I love my Day Owl backpack! I got it while pregnant to attach to a rolling bag I use at work. Also better for your back than lugging around a massive purse! 😜❤️
I feel you on spicy food. I’m pregnant and I’ve continued to eat chili almost daily. I’m waiting for the alleged pregnancy heartburn to happen but so far so good. Siracha is a must have for me too
Ive been wearing fanny packs for years. They are wonderful and I am so glad you found them 😂 welcome to the hands free lightweight bag club!
I need a backpack w a hidden zipper to deter a pickpocket situation 😢
Also GFC still sells Fanny packs but in different colors
Stasher bags for the win! Always bringing snacks with me everywhere for my toddlers. ✌
Has it been another year already?! Love how enthusiastic you are 🥰
The Pela grippy is the bessssttt I don’t know what I was doing before
Wow I don’t know if you did it for me since I asked last time for sustainable sunscreen options or if it was just by random chance but thanks for the tip!
I love my hydroflask. I got it second hand from a coworker. I wish pela had more phone case variety.
I need to know what mascara you’re wearing!!! Your eye makeup is 10/10
Hey Girl! We love you and your videos! Thank you! I thought you had a loose 🐦 in your house behind you, but it was your kitty's ear flicking. Lol! Have a great weekend!
Is this the backpack or the Slim?
Great video!
I just want to let you know that your discount code for Who Gives A Crap that i see in the video description does not work :-(
does anybody know of a sustainable back pack with wheels. I have a bad back and carrying one for more than 20mins gives me back pain, Any suggestions?
Question, when needing to replace an item, say a backpack, is it better to go to a charity/thift shop and buy a second hand one, that may have a brand name on it that isnt "eco" OR buy an eco friendly one & support that business, but cause demand when there are 2nd hand items out there.....?????!!!!!
your hair looks so gorgeous! 🤍
Thank you for making these! I look forward to them every year 😌
I want a cactus leather backpack so bad!
Has anyone found zero waste chapstick with SPF, I have yet to find one! I really need one with SPF for health reasons but it’s been so hard!
All Good does a tinted one with spf 15 in a glass container, on their website.
good to know about the sunscreen because it's at where I buy my produce, Mari's Garden. I'd get it but I have so much sunscreen right now. I gotta admit, I'm not doing so well at plastic free July.
Where is your signature earth necklace from?? I see you wearing it in every video and I’m obsessed! I would love to have one! Please let us know!
Do you have trouble separating the sections on that tiffin? I had one once and it was impossible, so I donated it.
Loved the 2022 version! Great video 😊 S! Could you do a video about your fireplace? I love the style of it!
So much passion 💕 as usual!
I had wanted peela for my phone case but they don't specify if they're gonna send you from USA or Europe and I'm from Europe and if they send USA I pay almost double in duties. I asked them if they could guarantee a delivery from EU and they said they can't.
They don’t have that sunscreen option on hive, only in a tin 😔
I love that way to wear a Fanny pack!..thank you.😀
I was really sad to see that Pela increased their prices.
I bought a second hand phone case, which is def tricky but also an eco option
Right?! I just went to buy a new one bc mine broke and I was shocked! There was no way I paid that much for my first one….needless to say I’m taking extra special care with my new one
Omg this is so funny, I was literally JUST re-watching your zero waste bag video from last year. Love it! 💚
Clip a reusable onto the zip of the Fanny pack
This editing is 🔥 🔥 🔥 🥰🥰🥰
Pela doesn't carry phone cases for the Galaxy S 21 Ultra 🙃
Hey Shelbi, if I could recommend a backpack to you it would be a company called Grünbag, I would consider you to check them out, they are a Danish company who reuse materials such a Tarpaulin from Lorry’s and materials from life rafts and Sails, I have personally been using this bag for over a year and have yet to see any wear and tear and on the plus side it has two water bottle holders which I use for my coffee cup and water bottle. 😊
