I can't thank you enough for this video. My husband passed Christmas day, and I had to winterize this fall myself. I was very nervous doing this but managed very well with the help of your video.
So I noticed that now all the valves are a 45° angle you skipped that step is there anyway you could go back and show everyone why they’re at a 45° angle
For Jeff and anyone else looking for the water heater drain hack supplies: 1/2 male to 1/2 male NPT: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006OGDJL6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 1/2 male to female NPT: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0734QDGZW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 female to female hose: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079SL47L6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I can say that I've used this a few times as we've taken the camper out in cold weather and drained the tank after. So far, no issues.
A few questions...How many gallons did it take to winterize your 311BHS? Should you open the low point drains to let Anti-Freeze into those lines and should you somehow get anti-freeze through the Black Tank Rinse connection to make sure the plastic check valve doesn't freeze? I'm not sure how that would be done but seems like vulnerable areas. Thank you.
Because I run a decent amount through to make sure all my traps are filled, I use about 3.5 gallons of Anti-Freeze. I always empty my hot water heater and low point drains at the same time before I start. I've never worried about the black tank check valves. On two different campers stored outside over winter, I haven't seen an issue, but maybe others have? I'd say you'd need to put some in a small bottle, attach to a hose and squeeze into the check valve, but of course it's going to push some back out as they have the reverse flow feature. If you come up w/ a better way, let me know.
@@rvengineer2300 Thanks for the reply. I have a 311BHS also so now I know to buy 4 gallons of anti-freeze. I did a little searching and found a hand pump that is made to get anti-freeze into the black tank flush and through the check valve, or any tank really. Inexpensive too! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006IX7YW/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
I would rather deal with the mess when draining the water heater and put an anode rod in the tank to help extend the life of the tank. Cheap insurance.
That would be the very best practice. You have to have an adapter from your compressor to the water inlet. I’ve done this and also just opened all taps and the low point drains to let it all drain out. I think real key is water heater empty, pink flowing through all faucets, traps filled w/ the antifreeze as well.. Having taken the camper out in the winter for trips, I’ve never seen a huge difference winterizing either way, but if you have the compressor and the time, go for it
I got the 1/2" to 1/2" NPT here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006OGDJL6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and the ball valve here: smile.amazon.com/dp/B078QDHRFJ/ref=dp_prsubs_2 Hope this helps!
The Red handle is the water heater bypass. Up is going to the heater, left is closed off. When you set all handles to "Winterize" setting, the heater is bypassed as you pull in the anti-freeze. Hope this helps.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad it helped you. If you have other questions about campers, I'll do my best to answer.

pour a bit of the "pink stuff" into your P traps at each sink and shower. This makes sure the sewer lines are also protected.
I like the idea of the hose on the water heater tank and will be doing it on my GD Reflection 28bh.

Great video! Thanks for the tips!!!!
Did you blow out your lines with an air compressor? We have a 311 BHS and the manual says to blow the lines out.

Did you not have to bypass your water heater? or does the P1 somehow take care of that?
