Thank you for the kind words. Whatever I say or do, it's simply what comes out of me naturally after decades of detailing cars and teaching car detailing classes. My way of thinking goes like this, *_I want to get and get out_* This means, I don't mind detailing a car and doing the dirty hard, grunt work, but it takes a long time to detail a car from start to finish. Totally understand. I started machine scrubbing tires back in 2013 when I wanted to get my 40" Toyos surgically clean so I could apply the Tuf Shine Tire Coating. Never looked back. I also show this for machine scrubbing floor mats, exterior plastic cladding, like running boards, bumpers, Chevy Avalanche, etc. And in my boat classes, I show this with Comet or Soft Scrub to machine clean molded-in non-skid inside boats. Rotary Polisher cleaning and dressing a Wheel before GTA 6 lol. I say keep the tools for what they were meant to be. That actually looked so stressful and you could tell it by your breathing. But funny to watch!
I always say, use what works best for you. Me? Unless it's a low profile tire I'm machine scrubbing and machine dressing. If you're asking about the towels, I used on the Jeep tire to level and then remove any excess tire dressing, these were not *PAPER* towels, but cheapie cotton wash cloths, like you would find in the average household linen closet, that I purchase at Walmart for less than a dollar each. Believe it or not, because I'm using a rotary, not an orbital, the perimeter of the spinning bristles is very uniform once you bring the brush up to speed. I use the 1-speed setting. Then you can tip the rotary and force the bristles right into the tight area where there's usually a small gap where the tire meets the outer lip of the rim. But of course, be careful. If I were cleaning GLOSSY black wheels in new shape, I would be super careful. Might not even do this as glossy black wheels seem to show marring and scratching super easy. And for what it's worth, my oldest video showing how to machine scrub tires dates back to 2013 - I've NEVER seen anyone show this before 2013 and once FLEX invented the CORDLESS rotary polisher in 2017 and gave me the first prototype - well as the saying goes, the rest is history. I switched over and I switched over all my car and boat detailing classes to using cordless rotary polishers for any machine scrubbing during any of the wet work. Ok so on just cleaning the rubber its 8 min per wheel not including the rims. So its approx 50 min or more for complete rim and tire cleaning b4 dressing. Thats not efficient enough for being a professional profitable detailer.
So you're saying, you can scrub tires FASTER by hand and get the rubber CLEANER by hand with sometime of tire brush? If that works for you then do it. The simple fact is, to sit down in front of one wheel and tire, (normally you're sitting on the ground in front of the wheel and tire), to properly clean the tire and the wheel, including the barrel and behind the spokes, plus the caliper, you know a pro-grade job, then YES - it's going to take approximately 15 minutes per wheel and tire and thus an entire hour to clean all 4 wheels and tires. This is an average and based upon the fact that MOST of the cars I detail are NEGLECTED - not brand new. This means the tires have tire blooming and some kind of crappy tire dressing and the portions of the wheel behind the wheel face have never or rarely been cleaned. I've cleaned more wheels and tires in my life than I can remember and I'm pretty good at this and I know I'm accurate with my times. So again, if cleaning tires by hand and getting the entire wheel and tire clean in around 10 minutes total is you SOP - then more power to you. Thank you for watching and commenting. -Mike Phillips
Yeah this isn't the best approach or low-profile or THIN sidewall tires. I just use a normal, short bristle tire cleaning brush for these types of tires. BUT for NORMAL tires, this works great. Most of all, thank you for watching and commenting @YingYangStang -Mike Phillips
