The one and only super talented Nicholas. An actor who always stands out in every role he plays in such a brilliant and mesmerizing way. His ability to effortlessly transform complex characters to a convincing level of life-form simplicity is nothing short of versatility and genius!! The costumes add a colorful touch to his stunning beauty.

What a Sunday morning treat, thank you so much. Professionally speaking, Elizabethan and Jacobean drama was always my era, and I was rendered speechless and giddy at how beautifully Mary And George caught everything so perfectly about the period - from the costumes, the tone, the settings, the attitudes and yes - even the sex. Every much merited rewatch shows something new and more nuanced and deeper. I cannot understand why it was not pushed for more awards and given a stronger profile, and why it did not win them! The strength in-depth in casting was not just Moore, Curran and Galitzine, but bled down to even the extras and one-liners, as well as the lovely young 'siblings' and the likes of Niamh Algar, Laurie Davidson, Sean Gilder, Mark O'Halloran, Adrian Rawlins - a checklist of some of the UK's best character actors, in fact. (And the horses! I could write an entire essay on the horses....)
These photos perfectly capture the unity, commitment and joy of the production and everyone involved with it, and I hope the expressed wish of reuniting director Hermanus with Galitzine (and also Dave Moore, hopefully) comes to pass. Such creative alliances should not be wasted once proven to be outstanding. Just magic up the right project and go for it, chaps!
But also these photos are irrefutable proof of the remarkable talent of Mr Galitzine, behind the camera as well as in front of it. The depth of understanding and performance, the long and complex journey George Villiers travels, and how he is portrayed and developed shines out here.
This beautiful collage is so appropriate. The care and craft and the impact of this series should not be allowed to be forgotten. Awards or not, and regardless of some flaws, it is and remains a touchstone and a lesson in how to produce and present top class period drama. And thank goodness for it!

George Villiers Newsflash: A new exhibition on the life of George will be on show at the Carnegie Museum in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire until June 2025. "Villiers Revealed - The Darling Of The Stuart Court" has been curated by LGBTQ+ museum curator Jon Sleight, the centrepiece being a stunning portrait of the real George, bought by Leicestershire County Council in 1938 from the Warwickshire estate of Newnham Paddocks, which was the home of George's brother in law. The real George was born at Brooksby Hall, just outside Melton Mowbray, his father's country seat, while his mother came from Glenfield, just outside Leicester.
