In order to fully express our love for this song, we need to break down how our first trip to Aotearoa (new zealand) was an important moment in our careers.
Takarita was created on a Marae (traditional meeting place) named Maru o Hinemākaho with Robb Ruha and his family in their village Raukokore.
They opened their space for us to sleep, set up a studio and fed us many great meals where some of the best conversations took place. We would wake up to the ocean waves and fell asleep to them as well. It was a surreal place.
After years of talking about working together we finally got the chance to work with Robb and this song Takarita is the result of it. Takarita in the Māori language means “to be excited”. In the context of the song we made together it means “to be excited to dance and move”. The vibe of the song completely encapsulates our entire trip to Aotearoa and the love we received.
This is our last video for our album One Last Saturday Night. For a while we ended our set with this song so it's fitting we honour it here.

The band has said that they decided with a name change, as inspired by John Trudell. The name is also inspired by the groups former Electric Powwow party night in Ottawa.
