@@HappyBunnyclownyes but if you think about a reporter or an interviewer from a foreign country who speaks the same language as the interviewee. It’s usually someone born from that foreign country that has learned another language.
Difference being, they are Tom was being interviewed and probably thought that Eric was Korean because he was doing press in Korea at the time (if I remember correctly). But when you prep properly for an interview, which many of these tv hosts don’t (they just read the autocue and card with info they’ve received) they should have known that some members are from America, Canada, Australia or Japan. It’s a simple google search, who are the members, where are they from, what are their ages, perhaps you write down their known hobbies, or other things that might be a interesting talking topic. But none of these tv/radio hosts do the basics. Because even the basics take too much time (in their opinion). And it also shows that the writers team around them have not done their job prepping and running a quick overview of what guests they’ll be interviewing. This results in, especially when they’re guests that are less known to the general public, in really boring interviews. You see it with popular writers, or other niche (but popular) guest. Those interviews or so rusty and awkward, and that comes from lack of knowledge from the interviewer. Sorry, adhd smash brain, back to Eric Nam and Tom Holland. When I watched that interview I also felt mega bad for Tom, I felt the embarrassment and regret from the screen. 😅 but it was a typical Tom reaction, which made it endearing at the same time. 🥰

The amount of interviewers that just do not care to do basic journalist research makes me both sad and mad.
This reminds me of how an interviewer told Lay his Chinese was amazing and he sat there for a moment, completely confused before saying "thanks, I'm Chinese" and EXO couldn't take it. Idols are so unserious

I assume national primetime news shows and some of serious news radio channels are doing research but not these daytime news shows that do fluff pieces. Nathan Fielder sent out a fake spokesman to promote a book that was made up of complete lies and none of the local daytime news shows that had him on caught it!
