Its difficult to choose one over the other. 89 had the offense but 84 was the best balanced. High end defense especially secondary. 84 9ers and ‘78 Steelers are the two top
probably the best defensive backfield ever put together. Ronnie Lott, Eric Wright, Carlton Williamson, and Dwight Hicks were all headed to the proBowl that season. Marino and the two Marks just had no chance against that backfield. add to that, Fred Dean, Keena Turner, and Dwaine Board were beasts at the line.
@@endcapitalism if the 90s boys were as good, they wouldn’t have struggled against solid but not great Bills and Steelers 90s teams. In their last SB appearance Bills were beating boys, mainly lost because their entire was damaged by then. With a better QB, everyone knows 90s Steelers win that game. 90s 9ers aren’t considered their best team.
Never thought then or now that this would be the last Superbowl appearance the Miami Dolphins would make, looking back it would be hard to believe that it’s been that long.
I love the fact that this is a VHS upload. The video quality is so terrible but what we had to live with. Hell, we thought this was amazing at the time.
I actually think it was a bit better. I recall being able to read the names on jerseys more clearly than often seems the case on these VHS replays. Bad as it was in a non HD world, I think something was lost via the reproduction medium. (An example of how it can be better is the NFL provided version of Super Bowl XII.)
I don’t know how it happened but that season Craig caught whatever was thrown to him and rarely fumbled. As soon as he moved to tailback that all changed. During 1988 divisional playoffs and championship games he dropped sip many easy passes and of fumbliitis
I wish you would have left the commercials , I like to see how cheap stuff was, I would not have recognized Tom Landry I have never seen him without that hat on
Dana Mclemore was a STUD! As far as I know he retired a Niner. Do did Francis he had actually retired in ‘81 and was coaxed back into Football by Walsh
26:46 "And it's going to be the offense of the rest of the 80s and the 90s if they don't change a few rules: throw that ball" Dandy Don correctly predicted teams would throwing the ball more than running
I wish he commercials were not fast fowarded through. I can't fast forward myself if wanted, but would like to revisit the past. Plus, the famous Macintosh commercial was this year.
I was 15 when I watched this horrendous loss I never thought I would be 53 and still waiting for Miami to go to another super bowl.I have a feeling it's not going to happen in my lifetime
Those rushing totals for the Dolphins epitomizes the huge mountain Marino and that prolific offense had to overcome without a running game. On the other hand, the balanced Niner team controlled the clock with a balanced attack of RB Craig and add FB Rathman for good measure, who both could catch passes out of the backfield, couple that with the passing combo of alltime, controlled the clock, running the Miami defense ragged.
This 49ers team have a claim to be the best in NFL superbowl history. 18-1 and I believe their points differential in the regular season to be the highest. As a Miami and Marino fan its painful that the fumble wasn't correctly called at 58 minutes. Rather than 28-10 following that drive it could have been 21-17.
After playing a stout Giants and (at that time) overpowering Bears defense, facing the now struggling Miami defense must have seemed every bit the walk in the park or turned out to be for San Francisco.
Darn right they did especially in the fourth quarter aside from just one Montana pass they ran the ball consistently holding it for 7:22 on two successive scoring drives
@The Cawd Squad they threw 517...ran 560..I'd say that allot better than modest... defense (rank 2) and running wins championships....yea. it wasn't flashy but allot better than modest lol..facts. sorry
@@charlesrussell6305 Ricky Patton was their leading rusher with 543 yards. Their best rb, Hofer, was lost to injury early in the season. Their rushing game in 1981 was extremely modest. That's why they signed Tyler and drafted Craig in 1983.
This was one of the most disappointing Super Bowls in the history of the NFL. I was anticipating and exciting offensive shootout, but it didn’t happen.
Johnny Joe Idaho - 4 SB rings. Dan Marino - a butltoad of passing yards, zero rings, but he does have his #13 jersey from this game, with grass stains all over the back, so he's got that going for him, which is nice.
12:01 how times have changed .. can't kick over 30 yds ? lol no team would even look at him in today's league .. also that was a major liability .. imagine you could tie it up or go ahead with a 40 yder and your kicker doesn't have that range .. crazy
It’s sad that so many of these Niners are now deceased. fred Dean, Carl Monroe, Keith Fahnhorst, Freddie Solomon and DwightClark
this team was so good, they had 2 complete defensive lines.great depth 49ers had.maybe greatest team of all time-outside of the 89 team
They upgraded at wide receiver after that to get even stronger

Agreed; that’s why I think this 84 team is their best and one of the two top teams I’ve ever seen that includes the 78 Steelers
@@hardcorehouse The early/mid 90's Dallas and SF teams were better.

This footage takes me back to my mid 20s when being a 49er fan was magical

Shows you how Important it is to have a great owner and coach and staff.
Love the highlighting of the “unusual “ sideline camera!
I liked seeing Landry dissecting and explaining the TD plays...
Man! Joe had some wheels back then!
That TD to Monroe was a freaking laser !
The "Good ol' Days". Fun to relive it...
Clayton absolutely got tagged by Ronnie Lott going into the middle
Riuss Francis was immense! Possibly bigger than Kittle?

VHS and not bad at all. Great to be able to watch for the first time since I watched it live.
Wdym bro its the 1980s not 2023
Crazy that Roger Craig isn't in the HOF
I'm sad every commercial break when you fast forward... would be so cool to watch the old commercials. Thanks for posting this nonetheless.
Jeez Joe doesn’t even appear to be sweating! Just disecting the Miami defense calmly and methodically
appreciate all your comments, glad you are enjoying the footage

joes peak performance. until his late 80's comeback. the GOAT!
Joe Montana - куотербэк, который всегда улыбается😊😊😊😊😊

And a year later the greatest defense won the Super Bowl
There are a few mentions of Ronnie Lott being the weak link in the secondary . However, if you ask anyone he hit the word weak just didn’t apply
I wish he commercials were not fast fowarded through. I can't fast forward myself if wanted, but would like to revisit the past. Plus, the famous Macintosh commercial was this year.
As a Miami fan this hurts to watch, but San Francisco was by far the better team.
Russ Francis was Montana’s George Kittle!
I am convinced that this Niner team could have beat the Eagles in the last Super Bowl cycle
Back in the good old days when they won super bowls not lose them
Ray Finkle had 30 touchbacks that season. Led the league.
Finkle or Einhorn...Finkle or Einhorn?
Did anyone notice that Joe wore the jersey for this game for Super Bowl 23?
Bill Arnsbarger was the Defensive Coordinator for Miami and for San Diego in SB29 and the results were a beating
Chuck Studley was DC for Miami in 1984. Arnsbarger left after the 1983 season
A lot of good he did them!
why the stretch video¡ otherwise it's a good video
there shouldn't be 720p or 1080p options come on lol .. looks decent enough to watch but nothing to do with high def
The stunning Teri Hatcher cheerleading for the 49ers at 18:21!
1:32:03
better and longer view.
I thought that looked like her at 1:4?? Stunning. World class donut 🍩😂
Dude looks like a lady

It was Tyler and Craig in the game bro...Rathman and Craig duo'd the next 2.
Wendell Tyler was the halfback and Roger Craig was the fullback in this game
The 81 Niners had a sketchy running game didn’t they?

@@thecawdsquad875 ok. And yet the team ran the ball.
Maybe I have become overly critical but Miami seemed overwhelmed At just being there. Defensively the killer Bs were the killer busts
That wasn’t a fumble.
Superbowl one had better cameras and graphics
A lot of heat came down on Marino for this lost but the Dolphin defense was out to lunch or Joe made them look awful
Besides SB 7 the Dolphins lost all the Super Bowls they played in White
