    @9:50, a little trick I learned long distance hiking: instead of coming in from the top of the loop to grab the pole, run your hand up the pole thru the loop, such that the strap is AROUND the thumb area and running between the palm and pole (essentially opposite of your grip in the video).. Gripping the pole this way will give you more leverage when planting the pole and thru it’s full range of motion. Bonus: when your grip is tired, the straps hold the pole for you.

      This is an excellent tip! Thanks for including it, Ross! 👊

    You really got into it! I have not used poles to do this but I guess there is a good use for it.

    Just got a pair and hoping I can use them today. Only a couple inches on the ground right now, but there should be enough this afternoon.

    Great video. Only extra thing I'd recommend is microspikes to go on your boots in case you need to walk around icy parking lots and pavements before putting your snowshoes on. These traction devices can save you from a nasty fall. I go snowshoeing in the backcountry by myself, so I always have a backpack with some survival gear - probably not needed if you are just beginning.

    Are there Left & Right feet for snowshoes? Asking for a friend.

    • @TheGearLady
      @TheGearLady  2 роки тому +1

      Great question! If you purchase universal snowshoes they can fit on either foot! If they are designated for the right or left there will be a marking on it!
      Thanks so much for watching!

      If there are straps that hang over the edge, make sure they are on the outside and not the inside so you won't get them underfoot.
