Tuning (from Sound Engineer):
Snare: Medium-low tuning. I don’t measure the pitch, but it’s a low rattly indie style tuning. I think the Tama Carbon 30-strand makes the sound.
Toms: Low and even. Basically as low as they can be tuned without sounding like a paper bag.
Post-processing:
-Yamaha CL5 channel eq for small tweaks song to song
-Waves Soundgrid for tone shaping
Kick in/out chains: SSL E channel eq and expansion, Scheps Omni channel hpf/lpf and compression, f6 dynamic EQ

Great drumming mate! I have a question if I may: I still have to learn how to do hihat splashing. I see you do it throughout the entire song. Is this something you even think about or it just happens naturally? I did see you double the speed of the splashes a few times, was that intentional? And is it true that a few times they were not on the beat, like around 2:00 ? Not as a comment, I'm just curious :)
Hey Roel, thanks, man. I appreciate it. More than hihat splashing, I'm really just keeping time with my left foot. Sometimes I splash it, but for the most part, I'm just keeping time and it's an old habit from being in the marching and concert band during my school years. Most of the time I'm doing it subconsciously and tend to switch it up depending on what other rhythms I'm playing elsewhere. Regarding around 2:00, I think I was doing it on the "and" (1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and) of the beat and so it looks like it's off. Either way, it wasn't intentional, just natural right there. To learn it, I would just practice keeping quarter notes going on the hihat while you're playing and then start experimenting with strategically placing them throughout the song. Anyhow, I hope that makes sense and is helpful.

Great feel Joseph! You mentioned marching band, yes I can tell because the flams you're playing are not flat! I also noticed you don't have any music credits listed. I did a couple of Chris Tomlin drum covers "Our God" and "I Will Follow" live at our church with a cheap JAZ camera for youtube in 2010 (from a non youtube video posting software) and got a few nice comments, and then I had a few problems with my network provider. When I got back online I'd already been red flagged twice. I emailed youtube to find out what was wrong but before I could fix it I was banned! How come so many other drummers can do the same covers and not get banned? Some list the music credits and some don't...the software I was using wouldn't allow me to add any credits. I emailed youtube to find out what I did wrong and never got a reply. I don't think the artist would have complained. My wife and I are worship leaders and I play and lead sing, and record every service for myself to critique and would love to start posting again for friends in other states and other drummers comments and critiques but ever since the JAZ camera broke I have had problems with audio syncing with video...i.e. cymbal crashes visibly before hearing it or vice versa! I play a Roland TD-6 double kick electronic kit and have a Vivitar DVR 789HD camera 3 feet above above my floor monitor! I record segments from TV and lips sync with audio, but here they don't? Any suggestions? Sorry for long read. Thanks!
Thanks, Roger. I don't know why it's not syncing for you or why UA-cam would've flagged your account. I do know I selected an option (at some point) where I acknowledge that the covers I post can't be monetized (which is fine with me because they're not my songs). Regarding syncing, I'm using a gopro to capture the drums and the audio from my church's livestream for what you're hearing and seeing in the smaller camera shot. I sync the audio from the livestream with the video on my gopro using iMovie on a MacBook. There are several programs that you can use, those are just the ones I have access too. I hope that is helpful and you can start sharing your worship with others. God Bless.
