The Ancient City of Uruk. The first major city , built in 5th Century BC!! Gilgamesh ,The king of the city's first Dynasty , built the walls of the city 4,700 years ago as Cuneiform texts indicate ( the first writing ever)
It was all so totally overwhelming to be here standing on what is considered to be the worlds first City, or at least the first known city thats been discovered yet! There are so so many places that haven't even been discovered yet!! The ground almost sounded hollow as we walked on certain areas, knowing that there were 5 floors beneath me at some points was unimaginable to me!
I don't usually visit such historical places like this when i travel , but this was quite a mind changing experience. i stood there looking at my feet and there were literally thousands of pieces of pottery lying around from thousands of years ago!! I know history buffs will have a field day in places like this! its such a shame that things are just left this way, with no protection, just being trampled on, i actually felt like i was walking on some unforbidden sacred land!
Many thanks to the guys at Akitu Tourism for taking me here and giving someone clueless like me a good explaination of things...i would love to go back again now that i know more about this place and the history! its MIND BLOWING!!! i had no idea what i was setting foot on until i started to research more after i had been here!! its quite an out of the way place and is only open certain hours, so for me i wouldn't have been able to go here without the help of these guys! i will link their FB page below ! mote historic places to come!

Uruk is the first city in ancient Iraq and the world. The name of Uruk is the Latinized name from Hebrew Erecha and the original name in Sumerian Urug. The Sumerian name Urug which means Roots or simply origin of human beings is still used in Iraqi southern accent referring the world (root). The name of Iraq is derived from Urug (Uruk) which simply means deeply rooted or origin of races. In southern western Iraq people pronounced Iraq as (Iragh) which is very closed to the Sumerian name. In Uruk the writing was invented by the Sumerians as well as the wheel. Uruk also is the city of Gilgamesh. The temple was built in 5th millennium BC not 5th century BC cuz at 5th century BC Mesopotamia was occupied and annexed by Persia.

So disappointed as an Iraqi to see such valuable archeological sites in Iraq that don't actually get any government oversight, it's really a mess everything is thrown away and shattered in all corners no rules to regulate the tourism, no national and global Media exposure to promote such amazing sites. Unlike everyone seeing this video and got excited and amazed getting to see such views I actually got so frustrated and sad. To see such abandonment of brilliant civilization.

Here civilization began when the ark of the Prophet Noah docked and humans began to spread across the earth. This was the first civilization known as Sumer. It is forbidden to excavate it and it is required to destroy and bury it because it will end the history of some countries, politicians and religions because it is the oldest and dates back to 5000 years BC. It is a beautiful and very sad thing. Even the Iraqi government does not She cares about it and is robbed. They extract very old pottery, break it to extract the gold inside it, and steal 🇮🇶💔.

Hello emma , I hope you enjoy the time in iraq , the blue ceramic on the walls it’s lapis lazuli the one you picked was more green because it was more oxidised , and the cone shaped clay it was used to write on it like a document so they keep them like this because they made them to let it dry to be ready to use , the teapot you picked it’s actually lamp they put oil in it and light it ,and the first letter on the wall I think it was hebrew letters not cuneiform , amazing videos 👍🏼

Uruk is the city in which the Prophet Noah, peace be upon him, was born around 6000 BC, and it is the area from which the Great Flood began around 5000 BC...
There is a city older than Uruk, which is the city of Eridu, and this city existed before the birth of the Prophet Noah, peace be upon him.
The city of Eridu is located 30 km south of Nasiriyah Governorate in Iraq, opposite the Suq Al-Shuyoukh junction, 180 km north of Basra Governorate.
For more information, you can find it at Professor Adel Hashem, College of Arts, University of Basra, and he is our professor in the subject of ancient Iraq...

What they said at 17:00 the main gate where ancient Sumerian used to pray and gave sacrifices to their Gods. Unlike in Maya Civilization the sacrifice was animal slaughter not a human sacrifice all of these activities were organized in a secret rituals as were mentioned on the walls of the Ziggurat. As an Iraqi I feel so sad to see these amazing heritage deserted and the corrupted govs don't give a shit about it. The guard knows some info about the city but he doesnt speak English as most of post 2003 security personnel were recruited randomly without paying attention to their education background. However what he mentioned that the outer fence was a barrier for the sea waves. Because Uruk used to be a port as the swamps and shallow sea water covers much of the southern part of Iraq 5000years ago. So what u see today the Marshlands these swamps used to be part of the sea but because of eco changes over thousands of years the sea water level decreased and formed swamps after (mixing with water originated from Tigris and Euphrates river basins) .

They said It was a temple which the guy missed and didn't translate it to her.! Iraq was vio lated during the invasion. I remember as we saw on tv how the museums in Baghdad were trashed and looted, and many artefacts stolen and smuggled out of Iraq by thieves and American soldiers. It was heart-breaking.

    Very interesting films.
You talk with great freshness about the land of Sumer, where it all began. The story is also important in the topic of climate change.
    Thank you very much, Emma
The history of Sumer is a great book.

I can't believe all those pottery fragments have been lying about like that for thousands of years. Incredible.
Also mind blowing is the 6 stories below ground that haven't been excavated yet.

I know it’s crazy! Mind blowing and I hope someone does something about the place .. I don’t think now you are allowed to walk around like I did back then , people have told me , but there had been very few tourists at the time I went so I got to see and experience a lot back then ! 🇮🇶❤️
