The 844 is one mighty fine locomotive! Had I been there with these folks, I would've been in tears the entire time, due to being so overcome with emotion.

I was over in the pavilion across the tracks when the Amtrak train went by. Kept trying to track the trains on the radar by the bathrooms, only to learn that they were frozen that day.

Hey nice shot of me and my dad at 0:37. The two of us live in the area and figured that we could chase her down for awhile. Sadly the moment the 844 finally came to a stop in Pacific my main camera died. Thought I did get a good shot of her blasting through Eureka.

I've noticed that the coal-tenders on the 4014, the 3985, & the 844 look VERY similar. I always thought that Steam engines had their own dedicated tender, Do they (or did they) just hook up to whatever tender was in the yard? Are the (or were) the tenders for the large steamers all built the same? Or are there differences...

They had their own dedicated tender but they were all the same design.

Brett Hobbs The tenders used 844 and engines like 3985/4014 are actually quite different, both in capacity and overall dimension. It’s subtle, but different.
