I usually wet blend the brighter and darker shades of a particular hue while respecting the natural zenithal lighting and then apply a wash over textured surfaces and wipe off the wash on the flatter surfaces to prevent darkening or pooling. great video!!!
Excellent video my man, took a lot away from this to use in future projects. Having a nightmare trying to learn glazing on my blood angels, especially with fire dragon bright.
Do you have any tips for shading patterned surfaces (like a goffs checkerboard pattern) to create shadows on the ends of rounded surfaces I.e. a shoulderpad?
Sure, I actually had the same problem at some point when I painted a black Templar + ork model for a competition 😅 I would paint the checkerboard patern, and then: 1. Glaze in the shadows on the bottom of the shoulder guards with some brownish/reddish colors by brush ( Hull Red, sepia ink, seraphim sepia, or something like that. Slowly building up the darker color at the bottom, layer by layer. 2. Do the same as above but simply by spraying the same thing diluted from the airbrush.
Hey guys! Which one is your favorite shading technique? Do you use something I didn't mention in the video?
