I remember my granny askin' me to hand her the church key when we were cookin'. Most people today ain't got a clue what I'm talkin' about when I ask for the church key. I also remember loading up the car with flowers, flags, blankets, and food every Memorial Day and we would make the family rounds to show our respect. In other words, we would go to every cemetery in a 50-mile radius to put flags and flowers on the graves. Midday, we would always find ourselves at Pawpaw's grave where we would stop and have our picnic lunch.
Yeah nowadays you mention a Church key and they'd start looking for an actual Key to a church 😂😂😂 Yeah I remember bein gone half a day on decoration day. I sure do miss them ole days. Thanks so so much for watching Pauley. God bless and have a good'n
If it helps, I know! I understand that language ❤
We called can openers, church keys. One end to punch a triangle 🔺️ into the can. The other end was for popping the lid off soda bottles and such.
My mama would get mad and try to call you by name, but be so frustrated that she would just say which ever one you are! You know your name 😂😂
My moma would call me every name but mine
Ha ha
😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That's hilarious! I know EXACTLY what you mean 🤣 I remember Pa would go through so many names and would get angry about saying the wrong ones and just get aggravated and walk off 🤣😂😂
Oh lawdy 😂🤣😂😂
Lols 😂😂😂
Most important, you can say what you want about your family, but nobody else can, or agree with you if it's bad 😂
Hey Elizabeth! Oh Lord YESSSS 😂 I definitely gotta add that to the next one of these! Thank you so so much for watching. God bless and have a good'n!
MISSING THE GOOD OLD DAYS. THANKS JARED.
Amen to that brother! Thank you so so much for watching. Hope you and Miss Sue are doing good. Love y'all bunches God bless and have a good'n!
I really miss the way we visited...or more often, had visitors. I was an only child raised by my mother & grandmother with no relatives nearby. They lived in the city. But I wasn't lonely. Our house had a revolving door, everyday, all day long, summer, winter, rain or shine. Everyone stopped in to see "Miss Ritchie" & her "girls". My mother has continued the revolving door. She's 87 now & had to sell the old home & move to an apartment but up every morning to go unlock her door. She can't get around now, so she sits in a recliner near the door & all day, everyday, all day long...visitors come & go, like always.
Hey EZ! Thank you so so much for watching and sharing that amazing family history. Bless her heart 🙏💙 sorry she had to sell the home but glad she still has folks visitin! God bless and have a good'n
Yes the visits ! People would come and just do a visit. Oh, I miss that and I miss the family closeness of cousins and Sunday dinners and us all growing up together.❤
@@loridisney3782 🤗
I do remember the being called by sister and cousins names. Who ever the Sam Hill you are was another I have heard growing up lol.
😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 YESSSS!!!! I remember Pa going through all our names and getting mad an just giving up 🤣😂🤣 Thanks so much for watching brother! God bless and have a good'n
YEP. NAILED IT. IF YOUR ENTIRE NAME WAS CALLED, THERE WAS TROUBLE YOU’D BE IN 😂
HEY JOHNNY! Amen to that brother 😂 we knew our butts was GRASS!! 😂 Thanks so much for watching man. God bless and have a good'n!
Wish the world was more like this today. This is how I grew up and still live my life the same way
Amen to that brother I wish it was too. I try my best to keep the old ways and traditions alive in my life too and God bless you for it James. God bless and have a good'n brother
On many levels, this is not the world we grew up in.
With saying bless your heart, it wasn't just saying, but came from the heart to. Kind of like a prayer.
Yeah I kinda was wasn't it. Even ones they'd talk about, they'd be there for if they needed anything. Thanks so much for watching. God bless and have a good'n
I am so proud to have been raised in Appalachia. Because that's the reason I grew up into a fairly decent type of human being. To be otherwise in Appalachia is just unacceptable. ❤
Howdy Alyce!! Amen to that sister! Here In the hills we had something called RESPECT! Somethin a whole lotta folks and youngsters nowadays need a lot more of. God bless Appalachia!! Thanks so much for watching and enjoying. God bless and have a good'n Kinfolk 🙏💙
Love your stories, love your voice. That's in no particular order. ❤
Lisa you really know how to make someone's day a lot brighter 😁🙏💙 Thank you so so much for being so amazing. God bless and have a good'n
I grew up listening to those same things from neighbors and family 😊, and even saying it to my own kids. Thank you for some awesome memories ❤
Hey Kym!!! 👋😃 Thank you so so much for watching sister. God bless and have a good'n 🙏💙
You’re just as precious as can be. Your channel is an escape from this world today.❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much Ruth that made my day 😃🙏💙
I remember I had to make this joke years ago. I was only about 10 years old.
A fella talking to my uncle said he was on the sunny side of fifty.
I told him he might wanna think about get over on the shady of it.
He said, “Why would I do that?”
Because it looks like the sun is getting you a might dried out.
It was real funny how he mulled it over just a minute and busted out laughing when he got the joke!
Then he gave me the advice to never joke like that with a female.
Loooord brother I spit my drink out laughing!! 😂😂😂😂😂 i gotta remember that'n!!! 👍 Thanks so much for watching man. God bless and have a good'n
❤ Awesome 👍🏻 loved this, very much. I'm 100% Appalachian even if I was raised here in The Ozarks I can sing but sure never master flat- footing.... I'm to left footed 😂😂😂
Hey Jonnie!!! 👋😃💙 yeah sister I'm the same way about the footin 😂😂. I step on my own feet! 😂😂. Thanks so much for watching and YOURE DEFINITELY APPALACHIAN sister!! 😎👌 We love you bunches God bless and have a good'n!! 💙🙏
That picture of the women spinning and winding yarn is great! Everyone used to ask me where I learned to use the walking wheel. It must have been bred into me because I could always do it. Numerous people have told me that they couldn't learn the walking wheel, but it has never taken more than twenty minutes to teach anybody how to spin a good yarn. My fourth grade teacher told us about her grandmother cooking in the fireplace. Her grandmother dipped their aprons in a bucket of water so they wouldn't catch fire. Grandma's chimney was stone for six feet then Cat and Claw the rest of the way up.
Hey Logan! Thank you so so much for watching and sharing that amazing story Kinfolk. Really neat how you just take it and run with it, a True natural talent indeed! Ain't many of them ole chimneys left are they?! God bless and have a good'n!
Those really were the good ol days!!! Brings back memories of when I was a kid!! World was a lot nicer, safer place back then.😮❤😊
Amen to that sister 🙏 I miss them days. Thank you so much for watching. God bless you Kinfolk 🙏💙
Awe. This makes me home sick for the good ol days. When Granny or Pa got to calling me, they would go thru all of my uncles & aunts then end with "well whoever you are..." LOL
and I miss Granny's neighbors. Ol Mrs Marley would see me out playing & wave me over, take me inside & put a 1/2 scoop of sherbet in a tea cup & pour a bit of ginger ale over it for me.
Loooord yeah them sure was the good ole days!!! I miss them so so bad sometimes. Thank you so so much for watching and enjoying sister 🙏💙 God bless and have a good!
When we'd visisit our Granny and Popaw growing up, theyd send us home with a couple dozen fresh eggs. Never refrigerated and we never got sick.
Yeah ain't it wild cause nowadays, un refrigerated in no time and they're spoiled! I suppose eggs back then was tougher too lol. Thanks so so much for watching Kinfolk! God bless and have a good'n
@@JaredKingTV I remember some people saying meat will not keep in a smokehouse like it used to, although it still seems to work for some people.
I surely miss those times in the Crossroads. Wish we could bring 'em back.
Howdy Carollyn! Yes ma'am I do too. Thanks so much for watching. God bless and have a good'n 🙏💙
Ok... I made it 5 minutes in and I soon realized everywhere I've lived must have been the Appalachian mountains. From Washington state to Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, and Texas. We all did those things. I think it was called being raised right, having manners, and being neighborly.
Howdy! You have a mighty good point it may have been. Although, I have got a few comments that said I was crazy they'd never heard of anything like this 😂. Some people ya know lol. Anyway, thanks so much for watching Kinfolk. God bless and have a good'n!
Yes boy Jared it was the same way here when I was growing up anyone that cought you doing something that smacked your butt and you got it again from mom or dad and definitely if you heard your first and middle name you knew it was going to be bad I'm not in the Appalachian area but things were the same here and a lot of people still do these things thank you for these stories and God bless you and the Queen I'm praying for her and her health and I pray God will bless everyone that listens to you
Howdy James!!! Always a blessing to hear from you brother. Thank you so so much for watching and the prayers Kinfolk 🙏 you're a true blessin to us all! God bless and have a good'n

I really miss the expressions that I never hear anymore. One thing my Grandfather used to say in the summer that I've never heard anyone else say was "It's hotter than blue fluegin hell." My other grandparents used to get us in the kitchen & tell us the story of rawhide & bloody bones & they'd flick the lights on & off at the end & laugh at us. I miss them.
Hey Holly! Loooord what a blessin it was to have them as grandparents 🙏💙 I miss mine too, every day. Thank you so much for sharing the amazing memories. It made my day and made me smile. Thank you. God bless and have a good'n 🙏

There was always chairs on the front porch and at least one was a rocker
Amen to that!! Always was a good ole Rocker on the porch. Thank you so so much for watching Al. God bless and have a good'n
Love your stories. I was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. But my dad was in the navy and I was raised in Idaho. I am 61 years old and have felt most of my life that I was really meant to be a medicine woman up in the hills. I know that there life was hard but so has mine been. But can’t help but love the way that a lot of families pulled together and excepted the fact that they didn’t always think the same way but still cared for each other anyway. Think are world world be a lot better off if families still stuck together that way.
Debbie you're a blessing in this world sister. Thank you so much for sharing that. I absolutely agree, folks nowadays can take lessons from the way out elders lived in a daily basis. And the way you feel about being a medicine woman... Maybe you had the callin!! Thanks so much for watching. God bless and have a good'n 🙏💙

All my kids call me when there kids are sick to ask what they should do,what I think it is,and if they should take them to the Dr. Some of my grandkids even call me Dr. Grandma 🤣
My kids do the same. And sometimes go a bit further. From the time my husband and I were married our family had the same doctor. Our oldest son and his wife moved away from home to go to school. When our first grandchild got sick for the first time her parents took her to the Dr, got a diagnosis and a prescription. Then my son called me to tell me about it AND asked me to call our family Dr find out if the other Dr was right! I called Dr Rob at home, after hours to satisfy the new parents. He was gracious, chuckled a bit and said to tell them it sounded like the other Dr was right on track. How many drs now give out their home number?
Growing up in Iowa it was the same for us if you got in trouble the neighbors did not hesitate to correct us then they would tell our moms then we knew we were going to get it good. Love your stories
Howdy! Loooord ain't so neat how folks and places can be so similar even in different areas. Thank you so so much for watching and enjoying 🙏💙 God bless and have a goodn!
My daddy used to “play pretties”. What a sweet memory.
Thank you so so much for watching and enjoying. God bless and have a good'n 🙏

Love your stories and that classic voice of yours! Have a peaceful night
Thank you so so much Kathleen 🙏💙 I'm so glad you enjoy them both. God bless and have a good'n
I remember many of these facts & traditions of the mountains from when I was growing up, not always in the mountians but the south in general... One thing that was also often said when leaving from someones home after a visit was to have em say, 'y'all might as well spend the night', or when asking where someone was such as a place or thing, ' over yonder'. Also if you were mad at someone you might say ' you mess with me and I'll snatch a knot in your a**."
Looord I've heard that last'n more times than I can count growing up 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks so much for watching 🙏 God bless and have a good'n
Thanks Jared. This brought back some good memories
God bless you Ricky! Have a good'n brother 🙏
I love this channel. I did not grow up in Appalachian area. I was born May 1969 in Richmond Virginia which is considered Mid Atlantic or South East. As a child my dad would take my brother and I to where he grew up which was Blackston area/ Kenbridge Virginia and back in the 70s some people still had outhouses (lol) but I loved the era because I remember seeing people just drive past and wave and I remember my uncle having a tobacco field and hogs. My mom grew up in Orange County Virginia and many of them stil had outhouses too in the 70s it was just an era where in the country people were kind to one another. Thank you for sharing.
I'm so glad you enjoy sister 😁💙🙏 and thank you so much for sharing that amazing family history!! God bless and have a good'n
I grew up on the Ohio River edge of the Appalachian foothills. Some of the best folks I have ever known were like the ones you're talking about

I heard that brother 🤣🤣
Greetings, Kin Folk, from the Foothills of the Ozarks of Arkansas. Brother Jared, I began to belly laugh when you started talking about gossiping.
My Aunt Linda Jean was the worst Gossiper in the Foothills of the Ozarks. She would spin a yarn and then say, "Bless their heart ❤️, we need to pray 🙏 for them." 😂😂😂😂
Replay action 🎬 🎉😊
Thank you so so much Kinfolk!! God bless and have a good'n! 😁🙏💙
Oh my goodness. I ain’t heard the words “tell off” since I was a kid!! We said that all the time. Cause if we called someone a “liar” we’d get our mouth washed out with soap and then a spanking!! Love them old memories from back in the hills of Kentucky!! I sure miss those days!!

I'm from the hills of West Virginia I like it when I say go down to the turn at the old oak tree turn right or left whichever way they may want to go
Hey brother! Lol I heard that man. That's when ya know you're in the mountains!! God bless you brother and have a good'n
Here at the Foothills of the Ozarks of Arkansas, when driving down the road, we lift our pointer finger up ☝️ off the steering wheel to say howdy. When walking, we wave our hand 👋.
I ventured to California right after high school. It was easier to walk to work since I lived 3 blocks away, and there was a Dunkin Doughnuts on the way. My roommate was walking with me one day and I waved at oncoming cars. 😂 That wasn't the thing to do in West Covina, California, in 1983. We are a breed of our own, Brother Jared and Kin Folks.
Amen sister!!! I went to Upper New York once with a friend... I said NEVER AGAIN!! 😂
@@JaredKingTVI've been to the main Air Port there in New York 🍎, but no desire to visit. 😂

This video was so funny I forgot to comment because I watched on my TV... bless my heart lol
BAAAHAHAA 🤣🤣🤣
My Mom came from a family of 10 kids and when we'd go visit her parents there would always be aunts, uncles, cousins, inlaws and outlaws visiting too. When we'd start to leave my parents would say "Ya'll come over." and an uncle would say, "You come up sometime and see us." and another one would say "Ya'll come down soon." and on and on until everyone had invited everyone else "up", "over", "down", and "out". I never could figure out how they knew which direction to choose.. 😂
My Mom's Mother always wanted to send us home with something and I well remember her saying, "Joy (my Mom), let me give you something....here, take some eggs." (Or something else) Mom tried not to accept because the family was large and she didn't want to take what someone else might need, but sometimes Grandma would win and we'd go home with fresh eggs. All these years later I'm living in a homestead and I give people fresh eggs. It's good to be like Mom and Grandma. Earlier this evening I made a dinner of ramps, fried potatoes, fried apples, cornbread, bacon, and beans. My husband said that my Mom and Grandma would be proud of that meal. 😉
Thanks for the stories that you share!
I absolutely love that amazing memory! Thank you so so much for sharing that. Yeah we NEVER went home empty handed lol. Even if it was a dish, glass, cup or somethin lol. I'll share this on the next stream. I know everybody will love it too! God bless and have a good'n 🙏💙
My dad while driving with hand on the steering wheel would give the index finger wave at every car we passed
YES!!! lol so glad somebody knows what I'm talking about 😂

Nowhere near Appalachia but still in the country, we'd always wave at each of the 4 vehicles you passed on the road. That ended here about 15-20 years ago. That was also when we got found and were invaded with a slew of city folk which changed everything, and not for the better. Today, that nice quiet drive to town is now bumper to bumper aggravating traffic.
Hello my Brother! and much respect to my sister Miss Queen. I missed your voice something fierce my friend! You is so right about the gossip! over in my area Gossip is a form of currency.
I dont know about the whippin's cause I didn't get one. I miss the "sings". Lot of folks would come ta our house on Wensdays or Sundays. They would visit with Grannie for a bit then the Singin' would start. Sometimes I'd go with some of our neighbors to another home usually with a person that wasn't able to leave home because they was bedfast. We'd visit and then somebody would atart the ainging. I miss hearing that mix of voices singing those old gospel songs.
