Here is the complete electric motors basics tutorial about classification of motors and their applications in which I show all types of motors and explain types of electric motors and how they work.
Motor is an electric device which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy.
There are major two types of motors AC motors and DC Motors.
AC motors are divided into two categories Single phase ac motors and three phase ac motors (poly phase ac motors) also like that dc motors are in generally two categories permanent magnet dc motors and electromagnet dc motors
.
DC Series motor DC Shunt motor and DC Compound motors re the types of dc motors.
Similarly three phase motors can be three phase induction motors (3 phase squirrel cage induction motor and three phase slip ring motor or wound rotor motor) and the second type is three phase synchronous motors.
1 phase ac motors are generally in five categories like single phase induction motor (squirrel cage induction motor) repulsion motor universal motor shaded pole motor and un-excited synchronous motor (reluctance motor and hysteresis motor).
