    There are good and bad in every industry, people just focus on the bad things they see. I own a retired racer, and there's no doubting that he loves to run. He has never shown any signs of abuse or mistreatment of any kind. Yes, it's sad and horrible that so many are put down, but there have been steps made to reduce the numbers. If all the racing facilities were closed immediately, as many of you seem to want, the death rates would plummet as thousands of greyhounds are suddenly homeless.

    He is talking through his nose. Ireland has and us light years ahead of Aussies. We have forgotten more about greyhounds than they have learnt.

    100% agree with every point you made here. You should give amateur straight racing a shot with your retired pup if it is around you! My boy loves every moment of it.

    Bit off-topic. I'm the current owner of Must-be-electric. Ex-racing dog was used as a stud. I wonder if anyone has a relative of his maybe? Really would like to know if any of his babies were rehomes as well

    I long for the day that Greyhounds are bred only to be pets, they make wonderful pets, they are so calm, gentle & lazy, they just want a comfy place to sleep (sofa) not a kennel ..they are pumped out by the racing industry with no thought of how they will ever find homes for them all..infact thousands still 'vanish' every year..shot, hanged, drowned, dumped & mutilated...its a nasty sport & im glad tracks are closing one by one...

    @KimPhabulous12 i have 5 greyhounds and they're racers but all are inside dogs and are loved dearly. If they dont win, they dont win, They love to run and love to race. If i think they are getting tired of it i will have them fixed so they can get really fat and let them have the rest of their lives here on my 178 acre farm. They will only leave forever when old age gets them. I love my greyhounds!!!

    And what will happen to the Greyhound's if you win your arguement? Many will be killed, Animal Shelters will much more dog's than they can care for. Greyhound's love to run, Would you like it if someone took away your love for something? No.Yes, there are irresponible owners, but there are those who look and care for their dogs. I race my greyhound and when his done racing, I'll make sure that he goes to a good home in Italy, like many do. You just seem to see the bad owners, never see the good.

    I always have heard that Greyhounds should be indoor animals because they can not handle cold or heat. These poor dogs only have coops like a chicken for shelter. :(

    Why not admit that the percentage of dogs who find their way into homes is very very low? The fact is, most of the dogs this guy breeds will be dead by the age of five, never having known the love and comfort of a family home. And this is a gentle and affectionate breed with a natural lifespan of 12-15 years. Greyhound racing is an industry for people who can't get a real job and don't mind exploiting man's best friends for money or ego. And the breeders are the worst of a bad bunch.

    Look at the video. Those dogs are in large pens, with other dogs and plenty of room.
    And as for what they get, they can get dogs who can breed and rehoming racers is really big right now. Most breeders treat these dogs like kings.

    no there not just killed they are sent to retirement trusts were people can adopt them as pet. there not forced to race if they dont want to do it they wont take it from someone whos family persisted with a dog for a month of it not coming out of the traps before retiring it to a trust

    Please make sure that you find a home for every dog that can no longer race, or if you can't keep them as pets and treat them no differently to the Racers.
    Please also ensure that you maintain a very close eye on your trainers and the manner in which they treat the hounds that are entrusted to them.
    If you are not comfortable with either of the above please stop breeding these beautiful animals.

  • @kineticrail
    @kineticrail 12 років тому

    your opinion that they are killed if they get hurt or are not fast is nonsence maybe in a small number of cases. go on the retired greyhound trust website pick a selection of dogs and type there name into the greyhound data website and you will see a crosssection of dogs with different abilities. my own retired greyhound only raced 6 races never won so was retired and is now living with my family in our home and is very much part of our family.

  • @NoisyWombat

    Working dogs, like herding dogs and assistance dogs, live with people, and are treated like a family member. Racing hounds are kept in pens and treated like objects. If they arent fast or if they get hurt they just kill them, and there is a high amount of abuse and neglect that you dont see when people are working closely with their animals. Working dogs benifit from their relationship with us, these dogs suffer for it. They arnt working dogs, they are slaves.

    Play a diffrent fucking record. The conditions in which Greyhound's live and race has changed dramatically over the last few years. The puppy's who are not suited for racing are neutered and sent to responsible homes. The same with ex racers. Go down to your local track wherever you are. Tell me how many dog's topple over at the bend.

  • @misstruthoughts
    @misstruthoughts 12 років тому +1

    People that think these dogs get treated well are deluded!! Look up the amount this year that were killed due to 'uneconomical'! Minor injuries equals death!! Theses dogs are racing for their lives and breeding to race should be stopped! the may look like they live in great coditions but any day could be their last!! STOP GREYHOUND RACING

  • @kineticrail
    @kineticrail 12 років тому

    so all dogs should be pets what about collies or any other type of dog used for herding. a grey is just like anything else that is working there could be accidents that happens just like you or i could go to work and hurt ourselves. also if dog are only meant to be pets you wouldnt have dog in existance because at one point all dogs have been domesticated from working animals

  • @shaunpp87
    @shaunpp87 11 років тому +1

    Yes, because most of greyhounds are killed and are locked in cages 24/7. Someone needs to do a bit more research that does not have a GREY2K label plastered to it.

  • @ffflappy

    What a response. You forgot to address even one of the person's completely true assertions about the abusive treatment. Oh yeah, you can't argue with it. Instead, you completely change the topic (what does abortion have to do with dog racing?) and call an insulting name ("you faggot").

  • @NoisyWombat
    @NoisyWombat 12 років тому

    Yes there are groups that rescue retired greyhounds, and some kennels and tracks have programmes of their own, but you cannot possibly believe that every racing dog born, world wide, gets placed in a loving home. This kennel alone has 50 dogs or more. And havent you seen the videos and pictures that evidence the abuse that exists at some kennels?

    Greyhound tracks are fucking horrid. They want you to believe that they are all adopted after their career. It takes around 80/100 to run a track. Watched several breeders just shoot them in the head. It was so sad to see;didn't even die right away. Thank god it's reached its peak in the 80's and going down...

    At the rate that they are being breed??? no way other dogs are slathered at a higher rate. And in any way dogs should be slathered regardless.

  • @JoeyTWunderhundt
    @JoeyTWunderhundt 12 років тому

    Wow! You really think that is an argument? Whew! Failed debate class pretty miserably, didn't you? Working dogs are not subjected to daily confinement on tiny crates. I know. Next: Greyhounds are not "working dogs." Just because you use them to make you money does NOT make them a "working dog." beyond that, sighthounds are specials cases as well, due to their lazer focus on whatever they are hunting.

  • @justinbuddy1
    @justinbuddy1 12 років тому

    Other dogs are slaughtered at a much higher rate than greyhounds. Get your facts straight.

  • @dashizzle1985
    @dashizzle1985 13 років тому

    so you as a breeder what do you do with the dogs after they have retired from racing? because most of them just get killed and thrown away like a piece of garbage. if your just letting people kill them after they race them you are a horrible person. if you breed them as pets than i have nothing to say. i feel horrible for the dogs who are put in tiny cages 24:7 and forced to race for other people's greed

    Any defense of the acing industry is proven completely false whenever the statistics are entered. Thousands of greys bred, hundreds saved. can't argue with that. Even here in the US, where we have closed over half of all Grey tracks in the last twelve years, thousands still die. Then, when you add the video evidence of the inhumane treatment of these noble and majestic creatures, any attempted defense looks feeble, to put it VERY mildly.

    With 8 sighthounds in a ring, all chasing the exact same "prey," the likelihood of them bumping into each other, at 40 mph or better, dynamically increases the chance for death. As well, I've done some things that could have killed me while skiing, but, unlike racing at the track, I did them at my choosing, not when a buzzer scared me out of my condo, and not with a live wire right beside me that would kill me if I fell into it, which happens at the track. You have no moral ground to stand on.

    They don't believe it. However, they desperately need the public to believe it, or their industry will wither and die. Which is EXACTLY what is happening. They will fan the flames of these fairy tales as long as they can, when they should be seeking new, honorable professions. Instead, they keep trying to prop up this horrific one.
