    Hello fellow climbers! Hope you're having a FANTASTIC day today! Question, Were you already implementing these during your warm up? or did you just focus on warming up your fingers and body like I did when I first started climbing? Let me know! Love you all!

      Hey man, awesome pointers! I have always cooled down with technique work, but now believe my warm up should include it too. I like your comment too - "Care about every hold". That's a very good way to look at it.

    • @rockentry

      Oh for sure, If you include this 3 tips into your warm up it transfers over to your entire climbing session. You will notice a HUGE difference in your climbing session.
      Take care my friend and climb hard!

      I don’t do this when I warm up. I warm up with momentum. I move a lot and swing my arms and body around a lot. Tends to loosen things up.

      Honestly campusing is way underrated. Not as a warmup tho haha let's ignore warmuping for a second. Campusing really improves your pulling strength, durability and most importantly coordination.
      Campusing is not just a show off, every beginner/intermediate climber should try campusing.

  • @pajaroprofeta
    @pajaroprofeta 6 років тому +172

    i would also suggest to avoid those little adjustments you make while gripping the holds in your warmup. Try to think you have sticky hands/feets and you can't readjust your grip, and for your feet you can only rotate through your toe, but not change the position. You will force yourself to move as gentle and precise as posible between holds. (sorry if i'm not clear enough, still working on my english) Nice video as always :)

    • @pajaroprofeta
      @pajaroprofeta 6 років тому +3

      i mean particularly in the last climb, but might be because is a little too hard for a warmup

    • @rockentry
      @rockentry  6 років тому +9

      Correct, I pretty much work my way up and eventually tend to re adjust on harder projects for obvious reasons. BUT you're totally right and great point as well, thanks for pointing that out!

    • @driklol
      @driklol 5 років тому +6

      That's a huge part of my warm up, and it carries into regular climbing. I pretend like every hold is a one shot deal and try to get my hand position perfect every time i place it. Just like the silent feet drills, it slows the warm up climbs down and makes you use your brain.

    Thank you! I got back from my first gym experience today!
    I was a climber in the 80's. There were no gyms back then. So after about 30 yrs, finally decided to just do it.
    This video was very meaningful to me, as far as paying attention. The gym is a whole different feel than rock. Im greatful to still have the chance to climb, as it has always been, and always will be my first love.
    By the way, I found my base today. Not very happy with it, and quite surprised as to just how weak I am.
    Never let that stop anyone. I just have to accept it, and make it better! In all honesty, im loving what's in front of me! Thanks for your material! david

    I always think back to this video when I do warm ups! I've definitely been more conscious of how I place my feet and move my body, and I've improved a lot in this regard over the last few months. It's helped immensely in conserving energy, especially for overhanging routes (something I struggle a lot with). Thank you!!

    For myself:
    -footwork (silent feet)
    -body position (adjust body based on center of gravity, shift hips/body weight)
    -flow…focus on each and every hold (vs just getting to the top)

    @barrymorgan8164 6 років тому +1

    Great tips! Thanks for sharing these. I’ve been climbing for a few months now and starting to get a bit more comfortable and using my body to my advantage more during climbs. Another great tip that helps during silent feet I found really useful was to avoid readjusting hands and feet multiple times after initial contact with holds. This also helps sharpen focus/reading routes/thinking more about the holds and can avoid wasting extra energy on some trickier climbs (especially overhangs). Can’t wait to get better at moving my body as you describe to evenly distribute weight over/below holds correctly and get more of a flow.

    Climbing can be very disappointing when you consider the subjectivity in grading. I watch tons of UA-cam videos where brand new climbers are walking into gyms and sending v3 and v4 problems easily and then I walk into my gym and if I send a v3 it’s an excellent day and I’m a pretty decent climber. I was told that my gym sets comp style boulders and that they’re at least a grade or two harder than most other gyms but it still stinks to not really have a clear idea as to where you stand grade wise. Guess it doesn’t really matter and learning body positioning, footwork, and flow are ultimately more critical to progress but still, would be nice to know where I stand grade wise. Great video though oswaldo✌🏽

    Great video! I've been climbing once a week for about 3 months and while I see myself getting stronger, around V2, but sometimes my technique is awful. I clearly know I should be using a lot less hand muscle than I am. I've started doing silent footwork at warmup and cooldown. About body positioning, I'm a bit confused about the example you're showing. Where should you have your center of gravity?

    Thanks so much for a helpful video again! I keep seeing what I really need to improve and work on. Like the Elvis feet, doing them all the time^^ I already pay a lot attention to foot placement but I cannot figure out how to move my center of gravity in a smart way...It Looks so intuitive watching more experienced climbers but when I´m on the wall i keep forgetting about it. Maybe because I get nervous the higher I get and my anxiety keeps kicking in :D Any advice for that?

      Hi Jen, Body positioning comes with practice and at first its very awkward. What I would suggest is don't focus climbing to the top yet.
      1. Practice at the bottom half of the climbs don't go all the way to the top, this way you don't add fear or anxiety as you're trying to improve body position.
      2. Focus on shifting your feet when moving your body, get comfortable adjusting and or switching feet.
      3. Stick to a boulder or two problems and get a feel of the difference when you do this often. Watch this video again if you need to, just so you get a feel how I move up and down the wall.
      Thanks so much for watching and I hope this tips help :). There will be a time where you will feel a HUGE difference once you implement this into your climbs.

    Just started climbing and going to try these exercises today! I had one question though at 3:30 they say "if you climb straight up you are using your arms" but surely you can also climb straight up and just use your legs? Like climbing a ladder is straight up but you can do it with just your legs. Or is it just that shifting your body makes it all easier?
