I as a child received the normal smacks on my hand and legs that a child would get, I had one smacked bottom for kicking my brother when he was ill with a stomach problem, apart from that I was never harmed or bruised, and it didnt do any harm, it was just normal discipline from teachers and parents. My teacher made the back of my legs sting, because I was trying to see what would happen if I didnt pay attention to her, but paid attention to my friend next to me, and I found out what would happen, when called to the front and had my legs smacked and then stood with my face to the blackboard
The Cane should be brought back to UK schools (as long as its monitored to avoid abuse of power) its an effective deterrent, kids these days such a my generation were unruly and absolutely disgraceful due to the lack of proper discipline. About a parent smacking a child again that is down to ME as a father and when I see fit (that its an absolute last resort) and will not be dictated to by ridiculous liberal values. Ill be very interested to see how the next generation turn out in later years due to the lack of discipline given to their children and ill be very interested to see how many of these liberals change their minds on it (HA HA!!).... Society is losing grasp and control and this I put to anyone in this country is one of the main reasons why we have so many issues with violence, crime, high jail populations and ever increasing prison population etc. No deterrent = no regard or second thought for any criminal action or unruly behaviour!

I got a smacked bottom never smacked on hands though also like you had to face the blackboard much more often the corner though.
