- The words of Solomon represent the wisdom of the ages, and their truth does not depend on whether you believe in God.
This is what he says about laughter in Ecclesiates 7, verses 3 to 12:
Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.
The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.
It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools. For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity.
Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad; and a gift destroyeth the heart.
Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.
Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not enquire wisely concerning this.
Wisdom is good with an inheritance: and by it there is profit to them that see the sun.
For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it. - Розваги
I swore my life to this poem years ago. It's empowering. Take control of yourself.
This man has helped me heal more than all my doctors and all the fake men and women of God.
„it may not be much light... but it beats the darkness“ - this got me goosebumps
O'Bedlams inflection is so perfect
This, Genius of the Crowd and Roll the Dice are the best Bukowski readings. Very nice work indeed.
man this guy is great. i have had these thoughts myself. like, is this life? work pay bills get married and shop at walmart? no i want to drink bourbon and meet bitches at a bar. that's what's going on! I like the thought of sharing my life with a woman, however i see people having kids at 21! im like damn, how can you have a child you just left childhood/teen years? don't you want to grow as an individual first?
poetry is the hardest thing in the world to do. and it speaks for itself. if you could add anything, it would already be in there.
Bukowski's reputation as a drunken cynic, while not entirely undeserved, does the man a great disservice. He was much more complex. Poems like this one are uplifting, and, inspirational, without being cheesy, or, overly sentimental.
Love it!. Thank you!.
There's nothing like hearing Bukowski read his own poems. But if I'm going to listen to anyone else read them then it's going to be you.
What a wonderful rendition! This poem was crafted to be spoken! Thank you!
Positively affirming at its very best!
i know this poem by heart, it was one of the first poems of his that i discovered when in middle school. love buk!
this poem speaks to me, the more you search for light, the more you evolve, this poem is the detail of what happens. the gods do offer clues the more you search for the right way to live and think. you wouldnt believe the clues the gods offer, and it is only for you to know.
Dark and uplifting at the same time. Wonderful!!
I needed to hear this today. Thanks.
What an amazing poem. The reading is fantastic catching the meaning so perfectly.
Great voice for a great poem
amazing!!!!!-I found this by coincidence-since there is no such thing, it must be a message from the angels-I love "you are marvelous"-lets put it on our mirrors to remember, always!
The definitive reading.
Favorite poet and one of my favorite poems. I am so happy you did this one.. it was beautifully read. I always look forward to your videos.
Maybe the beautiful piece of writing ever written
The whole poem sits on that word "marvelous". Any other word would have been a failure
the greatest poem of all
beautiful, one of his very beautiful ones....
Every serious thing I have ever said to every single person I have ever met is succinctly summed up here.
Beautiful
best poem ever written.
Every time I read this or hear it spoken. I cry. I feel as though he wrote this poem about me and to me. Even though he never knew me, his words speak to my heart and that part of me that gets it. I would like to tell him, "Mr, Bukowski, I get it. I really do and thank you for understanding. There are few like us in this cold world. But when I read your writings, I don't feel so alone anymore."
beautiful

Hi! Just letting you know that we'll be using your reading for our mid term project in Film. We'll give you full credits :)
Hello Tom. I enjoy your voice and your readings. Can you tell me if I can use your interpretation of The Laughing Heart for my documentary about a biker who simply adore Bukowski? Best regards, Sladjana
Proud to say I know nothing about this Levi's commercial.
