This was an EXCELLENT video. So comprehensive, for a novice like me. You speak at a NORMAL rate [unlike most electronic repair “tutorial” videos, on the web] and your carefully methodical procedure for diagnosing, is truly inspiring. Know that, I’m now subscribed to your channel and that I look forward to watching and learning more about electronics, with your videos. Kudos young man!
Exellent. Containes:safety features, Way of logic thinking in trubleshoot. And paticularly checking functionity of a common ic like tl949. Awsome Keep going pls👍
It's kinda funny, when I was 12-13 years old I started experimenting with electronics. I had a really old tek scope (wish I still had it!), round crt. I had no idea how to use it or what it was for. Not even sure where I got it. But I remember poking around inside that thing, with my dad just telling me "don't touch the crt".
Mr. ManCave, you can go to the Tektronix website and download the 2201 Service Manual in PDF format. I would think that that would be extremely helpful in this video. There is no charge for these manuals. I have a 2215 and I downloaded the manual for that. Just sayin'.
MANCAVE, what circuit inside the oscilloscope will draw the horizontal voltage on the CRT screen? because there is no horizontal oscillator or vertical oscillator used inside an oscilloscope so how can it draw a sinewaveform on the CRT screen? The Ramp circuit only controls the electron beam only to the CRT screen?
I want to tweak a few trimmers in my (working) phillips pm 3212. Should i be worried about the high voltage supplies? The 180v capacitros shouldn't be a problem because there are multiple resistors to ground connected to them, but the 8.5 KV output of the voltage multiplier doesn't have any obvious ways to discharge.
Sir good morning Iam raj Gw instek Gos - 630 FC 30 MHz oscilloscope If changeing the position knobe then it changeing the amplitude in appropriately how to rectify the problem.
Hi dlt205, I use PicoScope, but If you ask me to recommend a scope, get a proper scope, not a PC based one. It isn't bad but takes longer to setup than a normal scope with knobs and buttons. The only reason I use the PicoScope is because that's what I have at the moment and it is a good scope so cannot justify getting another normal one. If you're just starting Rigol is pretty good value for money.
Really great video, was viewing oscilloscopes on eBay and decided to watch some repair videos in case whatever I get needs some TLC :) Out of curiosity, what nationality are you? I can't really tel by your accent at the moment (I'm guessing British, but I suspect I'm completely off!)
Careful if you do buy any old electronic equipment to repair that it doesn't have Cadmium plating which is flaking off. Cadmium makes lead seem like baby oil.

I'm glad you're still around to tell the tale. Your dad did a good job 😅

With power supply faults worth having a look inside before switching on to ensure not causing more damage, as you do not know the history.
Excellent video. One of the best on youtube. Very comprehensive and helpful. Maybe i can fix my scope with your information. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! I hope you can. Let me know how you get on!

Looking on YT for info regarding oscilloscope repairs i notice a lot of them are techtronix ..😁😁
I saw on another site, you could cause problems in a SMPS by disconnecting the loads. did you damage any parts?
Some SMPS can be damaged when ran without load. Not this one though. Good point though!

Yes you should be worried. Take great care. You could try discharging the capacitors individually IF you know what you're doing.

What PC Based scope are you using? recommend?
Learned a lot from the video. Thanks!

Hey, late reply but better than never ☺. Thank you for kind comments! I'm originally Slovak, but have been in the UK for over 14 years.
Brilliant diagnosing!
Thank you!
Very good Video.
A 2000.00 scope always protects a 3.00 fuse.
My led doesn't come on either but my scope runs fine. I may tear into why my led does not light.
I like how on the back of the unit there’s the radioactive symbol. 4:22
Never noticed that :)
X-Rays from cathode tube :) lighting old school warm energy)
Very nice deduction.
+John Cunningham Thank you!
Are you saying 100 volts will kill you is that just in DC power? Because in AC power 120 won't kill you on a 1 or 2 second shock
How to repair when beam is not displaying
You are right he should test the power supply first
I thought eBay only accepted Paypal. but you paid them in pounds? 20 pounds of what... pennies? lol
You are right and what did the shipping cost
In these cases nothing is better than something, it could mean a failure on the power supply. 2:24
+Popart 2015 and it was indeed :)
Check the various TEK fan club sites for documents. Everything is there, including field refits.
Pro trick : watch movies on flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies lately.
@Solomon Aries Yup, I've been using Flixzone} for years myself :D
You from sir
Old post, but it would have been worth 20.00 just in parts alone.
I'm Getting made with all of the ums
Good video, but what a weird accent, sounds like a mix between German and London.
Thanks! I do have a mixture of accents based on the multilingual people I come into contact with.
i like your chanel! :-D
+Efthimis kritikos Thanks very much for kind comments on my videos!
