Awesome videos! I studied Aikido in NY under Hagihira for a few years. Plus, I've studied Kung Fu and Karate. I am a retired Police Officer and Aikido does work on the street. Keep up the great work!

Lenny, I've practiced aikido for a long time. Our school teaches fairly traditional aikido but the emphasis has always been being able to apply what we do in practical application. (Although we play around a little lighter than you guys...we like making it to work the next day. Lol). Great video. Don't be bitter about what the Internet "experts" have to say. It's not worth your time to engage them. You have some great technical instruction in this video and your breakdown and demonstration of the arm deflections is invaluable. There aren't many people teaching that part of the art (Gary Boaz is one of the few others that come to mind). Keep it up. There is plenty of good practical technique in traditional style aikido, it's just tied up within an impractical approach to how someone would be attacked in the real world. That's the stepping stone. You're simply proceeding further down the path....Don't stop! If you get a chance, look up "Gordon Muller combat aikido disarms". Gordon is one of our other instructors who's a police instructor. You'll enjoy. Lol

Keith Kruger great comment. I have also been doing Aikido for a while and I love Leni’s videos because of the no nonsense practical approach that he brings; which I believe is missing in a lot of traditional dojos. For example, this past weekend I went to a seminar with a bunch of “advanced students” who did not even want to get thrown let alone take a break-fall. Felt like I was in a retirement home doing tai chi.

I have noticed that some of the movements of hapkido is very close or similar to aikido. I do have a great respect for aikido as well. I do not know when I would ever get the chance, but I would love 😍to implement aikido techniques into my training. Have you ever considered in making reasonable priced training DVDs? I feel and know you are a true artist of your skillful art. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge to the public. In the hands of a great master, all materials is productive.

Lenny, thanks for bringing Aikido up to date, to be applied on the street. This is the spirit in which O'Sensai began Ajkido to begin with. I have 2 young girls who have taken their very first steps with Tomiki Aikido, and even while they're developing their foundations, I'm encouraging them towards double handed deflections and getting a feel for finger locks, to take them from awareness to familarity to skill. To ensure they can save themselves if they ever need to. Love your work, and thank you to your Uki as they cop a hammering in order to display the very necessary. Keep on keeping on, Real.

Sly, I'm a big fan of aikido and the arts, I have to say that he instructional videos are excellent. Not only do u explain why each step is important, but u also demonstrate and explain very well the results of each step. This helps learn it in a more understandable way. Keep up the great work. Belts and ranks are used in respect to the art, it has nothing to do with real world application. U got my vote all the way. I love watching ur videos.

Lenny, I wish I had found this long ago! I trained in aikido when I worked as a police officer years back. I won’t say anything negative about my instruction back then, because it was great. I am however a bigger fan of the TenShin style (Seagal Shihan) aikido, because it’s practical & real. Too many people get wrapped up in rank & labels... traditional is great, but reality, is the world is about survival of the fittest. You’re either a wolf or a sheep. 🤙🏾

I work such a busy schedule where I can't take classes but I've studied for years from your videos and others on my own and I train the best I can and my skills get better and better. Keep up the good work. Haters will always be there in all we do but just like you've talked about your always have an invitation for them to come to your dojo and challenge you but most of the time they just are talk big mouths who talk the talk but don't walk the walk. I'm same with people who talk where I'm from and I'm like let's go spare and they find an excuse to back out. Your such a great teacher you and team. Keep it up much love from a student to teacher. Keep posting more lessons. Could you do more videos about the black belt rondori test it's dangers but serious for a person to be a black belt and pass the ultimate test to prove to be a black belt? Hi Lenny! 😊
Lots of 'verbal atemi's' in this video; I'm shocked! lol! 😊
Seriously, I mainly practice somewhere west of London. It dissapoints me when sometimes I see the 'dancification' of Aikido; you know, big flowing movements etc. Yuk! It does no-one any favours. The best and most valuable instructions I have had, including some from my own Sensei's, is always when the Aikido is 'economical', and when the focus is on 'making Aikido work on the streets of London, Glasgow, Chicago etc.' Your video's have this in spades! 😊 Respect! 😊

I know it's an old video man, but I've been doing aikido for 6+ years, and various martial arts for 35 years. What you present is very valid and completely useful. O'sensei I don't think could understand the modern perspective of practical application of aikido. And I think that even in my school, my Shihan was upset that I questioned the delivery of traditional aikido. Staged martial arts does NOTHING for you in the streets. Very few black belts now-a-days understand that...

Lenny... all the naysayers have never had a street beef in their lives. They have either been in tournaments where their confidence is predicated by the security of a controlled environment or they have never even been in a fight. But for those of us who have had to make arrests. Who were held accountable for every injury inflicted on assailants. Those of us who have done law enforcement work, wether it be police or peace officer, understand why Aikido is so effective. When you are the protector, you appreciate the subtleties of Aikido. The greatest thing about Aikido is that it is as hard or as soft as you want it to be. Your approach is quite hard. In today's world hard approaches are quite nessecary in dealing with street threats. Again thank you for the amazing post. As always.... great work. I have lots more to say to the naysayers. But I'll just leave it at thank you sir. That was some funny assed shit at the end😆😆😆😆😆

Hello from Turkey, Master Lenny. I have been training aikido for 8 years and i have a shodan rank at nippon kan style of Aikikai. I have been watching your videos for couple of months and your techniques are really effective and useful though different than traditional aikido. I try to adapt your style to my training and maybe you will not believe me that i practise your techniques in my mind most of the time. You are absolutely right about that traditional aikido is not effective in a real fight, unless you do sth to destroy the attacker, ican admit that as i learnt for years. Unfortunately traditional aikido fails in a real fight. This mentality needs to be changed if we want it to be very effective in a real fight in the street. Because the street is a jungle and a practitioner of martial arts must survive at any cost. Keep on the good work and never listen to loud-mouths.

Those who pretend this is not a « do » style but a jutsu : you should try to see yoshinkan aikido school. The difference between « peace and love » aikido and more « realistic » ones are just due to the period at which ueshiba sensei taught : before the war for the realistic ones, and after the war for the peace and love style ( which is understandable. After ww2 you probably want to teach people to live in harmony rather than smash themselves on the ground). But both styles were « do ».

Bravo! I am digging it. This guy really gets it. In a real fight where adrenaline kicks in, simple is the only things that works. I love this guy!

Mr. Lenny is a regular viewer of your videos. If you have the opportunity to download all the techniques in a video, as did Steven Seagal
