Awesome videos! I studied Aikido in NY under Hagihira for a few years. Plus, I've studied Kung Fu and Karate. I am a retired Police Officer and Aikido does work on the street. Keep up the great work!
Ben Baker I have taken AIKIDO for two years. I'am enjoying your teaching. My AIKIDO will be a lot better because of you. Thank you so much. Stay safe and God bless.
Lenny, I've practiced aikido for a long time. Our school teaches fairly traditional aikido but the emphasis has always been being able to apply what we do in practical application. (Although we play around a little lighter than you guys...we like making it to work the next day. Lol). Great video. Don't be bitter about what the Internet "experts" have to say. It's not worth your time to engage them. You have some great technical instruction in this video and your breakdown and demonstration of the arm deflections is invaluable. There aren't many people teaching that part of the art (Gary Boaz is one of the few others that come to mind). Keep it up. There is plenty of good practical technique in traditional style aikido, it's just tied up within an impractical approach to how someone would be attacked in the real world. That's the stepping stone. You're simply proceeding further down the path....Don't stop! If you get a chance, look up "Gordon Muller combat aikido disarms". Gordon is one of our other instructors who's a police instructor. You'll enjoy. Lol
Keith Kruger great comment. I have also been doing Aikido for a while and I love Leni’s videos because of the no nonsense practical approach that he brings; which I believe is missing in a lot of traditional dojos. For example, this past weekend I went to a seminar with a bunch of “advanced students” who did not even want to get thrown let alone take a break-fall. Felt like I was in a retirement home doing tai chi.
I wish I could learn this type of aikido designed for the streets. It would definitely enhance my Hapkido practice. I think you are a down to earth practitioner of your art. Thanks for the videos that can really save your life.
I have noticed that some of the movements of hapkido is very close or similar to aikido. I do have a great respect for aikido as well. I do not know when I would ever get the chance, but I would love 😍to implement aikido techniques into my training. Have you ever considered in making reasonable priced training DVDs? I feel and know you are a true artist of your skillful art. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge to the public. In the hands of a great master, all materials is productive.
Chasing ranks, doesn't expand your martial arts knowledge to help you deal with real world situations. Once again thank you for your knowledge that adds to my martial arts skills!
Saw an old school aikijitsu video. Only 3 principles. Step off line. Deflect and counter hard. Crush opponent at your feet. My summary of what I see in Seagals art.
I learned this exactly the same way many years ago. My teacher was a mean old man. You bring back memories of me looking at the ceiling before I hit the floor. Keep up the good work!
Hello Shihan Lenny I forgot to thank you for inspiring me to study Aikido. I have been practicing for two years prior the lockdown. I have recently returned My school is similar in mind set as yours Aikido is a martial art, so thank you very much and lots of success
Lenny, thanks for bringing Aikido up to date, to be applied on the street. This is the spirit in which O'Sensai began Ajkido to begin with. I have 2 young girls who have taken their very first steps with Tomiki Aikido, and even while they're developing their foundations, I'm encouraging them towards double handed deflections and getting a feel for finger locks, to take them from awareness to familarity to skill. To ensure they can save themselves if they ever need to. Love your work, and thank you to your Uki as they cop a hammering in order to display the very necessary. Keep on keeping on, Real.
Sly, I'm a big fan of aikido and the arts, I have to say that he instructional videos are excellent. Not only do u explain why each step is important, but u also demonstrate and explain very well the results of each step. This helps learn it in a more understandable way. Keep up the great work. Belts and ranks are used in respect to the art, it has nothing to do with real world application. U got my vote all the way. I love watching ur videos.
Lenny, just wanted to add to Keiths comments below. What a great video. This has to be one of the best demonstrations and explanation of this technique that I have seen. Thank you very much for taking the time to share this. Stuart over in Scotland. 👍
Thank you for the clear and concise instruction! I have seen a lot of instructors with good skills, but they cannot get anywhere near you with instruction. Thank you so much brother. You freaking rock!,!, Awesome video. Keep up the great work,,,, BAM!,,,,,,
This is perhaps the most epic rant in UA-cam history. It does nothing to dispel the notion that Mr. Sly has anger management issues. However, the possibility that Lenny is psycho is why we love him. BTW- excellent Aikido demos. Keep 'em coming.
Love how you rip these shit talkers a new one and put them back in their place. you're always straight up about your experiences, techniques and who you are. I appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos which remind me to be grounded in reality and respond to potential threats combatively and not like I'm in a god damn boxing/mma match. *Salute* From Toronto.
Even if I'm a little more on the peace and love side of the spectrum (I train with resistance and for realism but haven't abandoned some of the hippie aspects) this is great instruction and energizing to watch. Keep up the good work!
Just one more thing. I was reading through the the comments and saw someone wrote what you do is invaluable. He is exactly right. Don't ever stop posting. You'll always have at least one like to every video you do, right here.
The one guy with proper knowledge of technique, and applies it. I get the old ways, sure, but, ,, you cannot pray or peace and love an attacker down. Fuck yeah! Keep it coming! Your shit is dead on practical.
Lenny, I wish I had found this long ago! I trained in aikido when I worked as a police officer years back. I won’t say anything negative about my instruction back then, because it was great. I am however a bigger fan of the TenShin style (Seagal Shihan) aikido, because it’s practical & real. Too many people get wrapped up in rank & labels... traditional is great, but reality, is the world is about survival of the fittest. You’re either a wolf or a sheep. 🤙🏾
First: good Comedy!!I'm down on my knees by laughing. Remote-Nikyo.But these Iriminage Apps, the Hand deflections... what can I say, just Impressive!Seriously.Pure Power. As it should be!THX for sharing your knowledge and greetz from Germany ---and,please,keep it up!!
You just earned my sub & notifications bell! I've been rather disenchanted with Aikido for being a Zen, Flowery, _"dance in a hakama "_ but you have brought real world effectiveness to it! Dig It! I'll look forward to seeing more of your stuff, Brother! Post Script: I also loved the rant in the beginning! The arm chair Warriors are everywhere! I loved you putting one of them in his place! Awesome! 😎
Incredibly technique! You make it look easy, is specially difficult to do it. Your technique is perfect either left or right. I wish you had your school in Houston Tx.
Hey Lenny! Just wanted to say I've training Aikido and Krav Maga as well. My Irimi Nage is ASU based but I in Krav Maga tonight we just did your version and worked flawlessly vs a Shominuchi with a bat.
I really loved this video and thank you so much for your hard work to put these lessons out there. I work such a busy schedule where I can't take classes but I've studied for years from your videos and others on my own and I train the best I can and my skills get better and better. Keep up the good work. Haters will always be there in all we do but just like you've talked about your always have an invitation for them to come to your dojo and challenge you but most of the time they just are talk big mouths who talk the talk but don't walk the walk. I'm same with people who talk where I'm from and I'm like let's go spare and they find an excuse to back out. Your such a great teacher you and team. Keep it up much love from a student to teacher. Keep posting more lessons. Could you do more videos about the black belt rondori test it's dangers but serious for a person to be a black belt and pass the ultimate test to prove to be a black belt? My name is Michael from Oklahoma but live in Utah
Brother you know your shit. I totally agree, rank is shit, ability is all. Just watched several of your vids and subscribed. You remind me of my Aikido intructor in Vegas. Its nice to see true combat Aikido, very effective, not enough of that in this art!
Hi Lenny! 😊 Lots of 'verbal atemi's' in this video; I'm shocked! lol! 😊 Seriously, I mainly practice somewhere west of London. It dissapoints me when sometimes I see the 'dancification' of Aikido; you know, big flowing movements etc. Yuk! It does no-one any favours. The best and most valuable instructions I have had, including some from my own Sensei's, is always when the Aikido is 'economical', and when the focus is on 'making Aikido work on the streets of London, Glasgow, Chicago etc.' Your video's have this in spades! 😊 Respect! 😊
Awesome dude!! You had me rolling at the beginning. I should not have watched this video right before Aikido class. I’m going to break someone’s shit now. Thank you very much Leny, I’m probably getting kicked out of the dojo and it’s all your fault. Ha, ha.
Awesome video , just found your channel as I was interested in learning but was afraid / nervous to start. Over that now thanks to your up front approach. I wish I lived closer as you would have a new student.
If Seagal havent made any movie in Hollywood, the community of aikido would be 1/10.. If it wasnt for you, more people would stop practicing aikido when they realize that traditional forms are not practible in real life. You give us motivation to keep on !
Sensei Lenny, your example of “the modern sword” makes the dancers, hearts quiver in fear. This, I think, is from a complete lack of training in the philosophy of Bugei. Shihan Don Draeger knew this. You know this. There are thousands of us who subscribe to this path. Thank you sir! This is the real path!
I know it's an old video man, but I've been doing aikido for 6+ years, and various martial arts for 35 years. What you present is very valid and completely useful. O'sensei I don't think could understand the modern perspective of practical application of aikido. And I think that even in my school, my Shihan was upset that I questioned the delivery of traditional aikido. Staged martial arts does NOTHING for you in the streets. Very few black belts now-a-days understand that...
I've always loved how those movements look first time I saw it in the Steven Seagal movie being a big pro wrestling fan I recognized it as a clothesline immediately with other movements to set it up looks really cool and it's very quick your movements are quick and crisp
Great demosntrations, things might be better kept safe at dojos but must be tough outside, i like your point, the sensei must teach his traines that the real world is a way different from the dojo .. respect ,from Algeria
Lenny... all the naysayers have never had a street beef in their lives. They have either been in tournaments where their confidence is predicated by the security of a controlled environment or they have never even been in a fight. But for those of us who have had to make arrests. Who were held accountable for every injury inflicted on assailants. Those of us who have done law enforcement work, wether it be police or peace officer, understand why Aikido is so effective. When you are the protector, you appreciate the subtleties of Aikido. The greatest thing about Aikido is that it is as hard or as soft as you want it to be. Your approach is quite hard. In today's world hard approaches are quite nessecary in dealing with street threats. Again thank you for the amazing post. As always.... great work. I have lots more to say to the naysayers. But I'll just leave it at thank you sir. That was some funny assed shit at the end😆😆😆😆😆
AWESOME VIDEO!!! I ALWAYS LOVED THIS PARTICULAR TECHNIQUE WATCHING SS...YOU REALLY SHOW IT WELL AND I HAVE REALLY LEARNED FROM YOU...THANKS SO MUCH..ARIGATO SENSEI
Love your videos.... for one .... and study them intensely. There are alot different ways to handle a double leg take down sometimes unavoidable (always by the perpetrator ) what are some counter techniques that YOU would apply ... thanks Stan
Hello from Turkey, Master Lenny. I have been training aikido for 8 years and i have a shodan rank at nippon kan style of Aikikai. I have been watching your videos for couple of months and your techniques are really effective and useful though different than traditional aikido. I try to adapt your style to my training and maybe you will not believe me that i practise your techniques in my mind most of the time. You are absolutely right about that traditional aikido is not effective in a real fight, unless you do sth to destroy the attacker, ican admit that as i learnt for years. Unfortunately traditional aikido fails in a real fight. This mentality needs to be changed if we want it to be very effective in a real fight in the street. Because the street is a jungle and a practitioner of martial arts must survive at any cost. Keep on the good work and never listen to loud-mouths.
Those who pretend this is not a « do » style but a jutsu : you should try to see yoshinkan aikido school. The difference between « peace and love » aikido and more « realistic » ones are just due to the period at which ueshiba sensei taught : before the war for the realistic ones, and after the war for the peace and love style ( which is understandable. After ww2 you probably want to teach people to live in harmony rather than smash themselves on the ground). But both styles were « do ».
Finally found someone teaching what I wanted to learn!! Thanks so much for posting. Got a new subscriber!
That’s fantastic glad to hear I still got it. Thank you

Another awesome video! Thanks Lenny.
Hi Lenny! 😊
Lots of 'verbal atemi's' in this video; I'm shocked! lol! 😊
Seriously, I mainly practice somewhere west of London. 😊 Respect! 😊
Thank you sir and best of luck with your training.
Awesome dude!! You had me rolling at the beginning. I should not have watched this video right before Aikido class. I’m going to break someone’s shit now. Thank you very much Leny, I’m probably getting kicked out of the dojo and it’s all your fault. Ha, ha.
Lol I hope you don’t get kicked out
ROGUE WARRIORS TV Leny I have a request if it’s something you haven’t thought of already. A Jo video or series. Jo rouge warriors style.
I’ll look into doing something with the Jo.
Awesome video! I'll be watching!
Thank you for showing us the really effectiveness and how deadly can aikido techniques can be ,once they are well Applied. Greatings from Ecuador
Awesome video , just found your channel as I was interested in learning but was afraid / nervous to start. Over that now thanks to your up front approach. I wish I lived closer as you would have a new student.
Your aikido is good. Your acting is the B list
Hi Lenny, you are the only one that tells the whole truth..
Keep on making great videos !!!

After ww2 you probably want to teach people to live in harmony rather than smash themselves on the ground). But both styles were « do ».
