To add to this a bit, for those returning after a hiatus, although TGS hit up nearly everything well already: Synchro- The "Addition" type. Whatever monster you're trying to summon needs a tuner type and the levels need to add up to the level of the monster. How this is achieved is usually not important. I.E. if you try to summon a level eight, you can use a level seven and a level 1, a level six and a level two, and so on. Some monsters will need two or more material though so always read what your target needs as well. There's also two evolved forms of synchro summoning. The first is Accel Synchro Summoning. This is just a fancy way of saying that the monsters used for the Synchro summon must be Synchro monsters themselves. This includes the turners. So in essence you'd: A: Synchro summon two monsters, one of which is also a tuner, or can be made to act like one if some requirement is met. B: You then perform another Snychro using the synchro monsters to bring out the Accel Synchro. If you're thinking that this subset of Synchros must be powerful, you're generally correct, though as with all types of monsters, there's clear winners and losers too. The second is called Double Tuning. These Synchros require two or more Tuners to be used in their summoning, rather than one. Again, some of these monsters are powerful enough to warrant the additional hurdle. XYZ- The "Same Level Type". The easiest to use, you simply need however many monsters the card says it requires, and they must match the Rank of the XYZ. I.E. You want to summon a Rank 8 XYZ that requires three material. You would summon three Level 8 monsters and then overlay them together to summon the XYZ on top. Boom, easy. There also exist "Rank Up" cards that can allow you to summon another higher Rank XYZ on top of one already on the field, in addition to some XYZ cards that can just automatically do this themselves with the right conditions. Neither method is complex and simply reading the cards will inform you of what you'll need to use them. Pendulum: The "I can be a spell too! Type" Pendulum cards are well known for their unpredictability, since they often like to destroy themselves, can summon out a ton of monsters, and depending on their place on the field have different effects. The best way to learn how to use them is to either play test one yourself, or if you've a friend or someone you know that uses them, watch them play. While not difficult to pick up, there's timing to learn for using their effects, summoning and so on. Skilled Pendulum players can make very worrying opponents. Honestly Links aren't difficult. Especially after the revision to Master Rule. Just remember that: A: They can only go into the Extra Monster Slot, unless another link is there first. Then you can have more go to any zone the first one points to. And if you're wondering if it's possible for one player to go all the way to the other Extra zone and rob your opponent of it...yes! Out of the most complex, it's Synchros, and even then only due to needing to make sure your materials add up correctly. Also if you want a strong deck to try to get back into the game without even needing an Extra deck, may I suggest the Monarch archetype?
I thought this was a handy explanation for the ED/Sub Monsters until you said Monarch. But no, this is pretty handy to have for new players, especially since I'm bad at teaching them myself. 2 points I find interesting and it was not covered in video. Quick-play spells cannot be activated the turn they are set on field, but can be played from hand during your turn (even to chain). So keep it in your hand and set at end of your turn if you may use (learned this on link evolution when I used a card that set a spell from deck and was confused why I couldn't activate). When talking about pendulums, you can only summon the pendulums face up in the extra deck to the extra monster zone OR a zone a link points to. This includes your opponents link arrows. This enables you to summon multiple out from the extra deck.
Some fusion monsters can be fusion summoned without polymerization or a fusion spell. They can be fusion summoned by trap cards or monster effects. Some fusion monsters don't need to be fusion summoned, therefore it is known as contact fusion. There are 2 synchro monsters that have an effect that can't be Synchro summoned but can be special summoned by their own effects. Phantasmal Lord Ultimitl Bishbaalkin needs to have a level 8 or higher Tuner and non-Tuner monster with the same level in order to special summon. They will be sent to the graveyard as normal. Tzolkin Ultimaya has the same summon ruling as Bishbaalkin but requires level 6 Tuner and non-Tuner to be special summoned. Thank you
I must say I had a great time in the Pepe format. Older magic players (who used to play yugioh) would stop by the yugioh tournament tables, be intrigued by my weird new half spell monkey card, and become quickly disgusted when I end turn with multiple negates and over 10k in damage waiting for my 8 year old opponent
This is very comprehensive I haven't played Yu-Gi-Oh for a very long time And this video explains, including the changes since I didn't play (I played GX on PS2)
When I play yugioh now, we usually agree to play up until the Xy era. Also, we use cards with their original effects not the errata bs. Temple of kings, crush card, chaos emperor dragon, sangan etc all with their original text. Yes I have all those cards and more pre errata.
I used to play like, 15 years ago. This game changed so much lol. Is likePokémon with earthquake meta back in gen one, now there are IV, EV, natures, bst matters etc haha
I essentially went off Yu-Gi-Oh at 5ds so synchro summoning was my limit, now the game is just so complex for me years on, I barely understood xyz and suddenly pendulums came out and link monsters, I'm currently researching Yu-Gi-Oh from the first series and planning to make my way through everything but I doubt I can really get into the game again sadly, adult life just means I don't have the time to learn everything again
I think all the card types work well in conjunction with each other except pendulum. The whole mechanic is just a confusing nightmare and those text blocks are getting to the length of a romance novel at a grocery store checkout. Also thanks for taking the time to explain these clearly and succinctly. Very helpful vid!
3 exceptions to the the 7+ means 2 tributes are the god cards at level 10 but that may be because its stated in their card text that they require 3 tributes and not because they are level 10. Since their attribute and type is mentioned, felt like that could have been a side note in the video. Also there is a single type missing from the list, it's used for a singular card but it's still a different type, Creator God, used for Holactie the Creator of Light. Then theres Uria, lord of searing flames who needs 3 tributes but they are trap cards instead of monsters and Hamon, lord of striking thunder who requires 3 face up continuous spell cards but again that's mentioned in the card text. These are all so very niche things that they don't really need mentioning especially the other type but its just something else to mention
*Me who never in my life played yugioh except for that one of those old power of chaos game: So that's how pendulum summon works, I knew other summon mechanic work by just watching someone play the game, but this is the first time I truly understand how pendulum monster work. Pendulum summon is just one of those mechanic that need to explained by verbally not visually.
I'm 27 years old, I started collecting and playing Yu-Gi-Oh (very casually) when I was like 6... I had no idea there were spell speeds ='D Also link monsters scare me. Pendulum was confusing enough haha
*A idiots guide* Teach Speed Spells After finishing the video I realize he didn't talked about missing the time, so I will explain to anyone reading this. There is a diference between If and When, cards that have the If cant miss the time while cards with when can, to not miss the time you need, basically you need to activate the when effects after the condition is met, chains can make you miss the time, for example: I use the effect of Crystron Halquifrabax to special summon Formula Synchron, then its effects says: when this card is synchro summoned you can immediately after its summon make a synchro summon (Speed Spell 2), that means if your opponent activates anything and create a chain you will miss the time to activate it, kind of negating the activation of the effect, this is a really hard concept, so if you didnt understand anything about it or others things in the video, you can ask me, I will try to help
Yeah, I'm getting tired of seeing all of the top comments on YGO youtube videos as "GAme iS SO hARD" memes and similar ones. I don't play YuGiOh at all (and I don't even watch the anime anymore) but I at least still know how the game works since there are videos like this that explain them really easily.
@@skylenexo6541 One thing I never understood is that people say it's hard to get in to YGO nowadays that "the entry barrier is very high". Even though you can just start with 1 deck and learn it and go forward from that.
Yeah, the game became way to complex, so if I ever get duel links, I am sticking with the Oh and GX. Man I am glad that Vanguard Cardfight went back to it's simple routes in the newest version
I used to watch and play yugioh back in the day. At the beginning of Covid I started playing Duel Links. I was so lost but learned how to synchro and xyz summon. I don't understand pendulum or link summoning at all though.
From what I understand Pendulum summoning is similar to the old Crystal Beasts from the GX era - except they have 2 spots only in the spell/trap zone (aka the pendulum zone) and only there can you use their spell effects.
Very simply yet interesting. Now it's time to find a deck that has normal, effect, fusion, synchro, xyz, pendulum, and link monsters in it. I mean it has to happen somehow.
5ds is a nice cutoff point imo..lol glad I came up on the game when I did. I can appreciate the expansion but I say we just play by/with the good ol' sh*t accordingly 🤝
@@darkblade9924 Links? Is that XYZ? Pretty Straight forward...get the right amount of monsters with the same level & boom. Synchro you need specific tuners and whatnot.
Ok so which one is links then smart guy? I watched the original Anime and little bit of GX and GX seems more appropriate now since you need a degree to deal with the newer cards. Ive seen that The Pendulum method is so broken that Konami has ceased production.
@@abdizur8765 Thanks for calling me smart Anyway,Links are the last mechanic Also what does ceased production mean? Do you mean like they stopped printing new cards? If yes, that is not true as we got a new summoning mechanic aka Links which u can see at the end of the video i think, also Pendulum suck right now as master rule 4 killed all pend decks but there is still some pend believers like trif gaming who can do well with pend because of their skill Links are now the meta.Synchros,XYZ's,Pendulums,Fusions are all powercrept by Links
Honestly I’m not a fan of XYZ, Pendulum, Link, and Synchro monsters. I think what made Yugioh appealing was how simple and easy to learn the game was but with all these different monster types that you have to account for it makes getting into the game and learning it much more difficult. Just my opinion, I get it offers more ways to play and therefore more replay-ability, and strategies which can make it more fun. I just prefer how simple and easy to get into the game used to be.
Can’t wait till they add a new extra deck monster that’s just outrageous like Ritual-fusions. Where you have use a ritual spell to tribute monsters and fusion 2 separate monsters to summon.
I don't care if I'm ridiculed for this but why Konami didn't just refer to the speeds regarding traps as "Trap Speed"? Raise your hand up if you ever had to explain spell speed to someone new and it more or went like this: "But those are traps" "Yes I know but the mechanics is explained as spell speed" "Spell speed for traps?" "Yes" "And not spell cards?" "Actually for those too" "And all the speeds are for all the traps?" "Yes." "And the spells too?" "Yes. Well only up to speed 2" "What about 3?" "Counter" "Counter spells?" "No counter traps" "Ah ok...so traps are spells and they got speed 3" "Yes. No! Nononoo, the spells go up-- "To 3" "NO TO 1, the one's that are quick--" "And the traps go to 2 because they're spells that have speed" *blinks several times* "What?" "Ya wanna play Uno?"
3:05 WHERE IS "GOD CREATOR"? 4:08 THE MAXIMUN CARDS ENTER HERE TOO? OR THERE WILL BE ANOTHER VIDEO FOR RUSH AND SPEED DUELS? (MAXIMUM CARDS FOR RUSH AND SKILL CARDS FOR SPEED) 7:37 THE TUNER ARE THIS CLASS TOO? (OR THEY ARE OTHER CLASS?)
Haven't played since gx but watching this I think pendulum were probably a mistake and the only one. Links seems really nice and brings a new way to play, synchro/xyz seems hard to get on the field so it balances out.
Has someone who only watched Yugioh classic as a kid and never played the game and only got into it in 2018. Pendulums aren't near 5% as complex as people make it sound and Links aren't good, they are just way too spam-able to the point where they are easily abused, if they weren't this cheap, they wouldn't be as used as they are.
I've been playing Yu-Gi-Oh consistently since it's North American debut. Some of these comments have me feeling like I'm back in time in different eras of the game based on the complaint listed lol.
They should of stopped at Fusion but syncho is cool I guess and sure I’ll let xyz slide. But all the other stuff wasn’t needed. Like they didn’t really add much to the game other than give you more ways to get to the same place
Pendulum was a mistake. Everything else was fine and you could pull some wicked complicated things back in the day. People would often skip going through everyhing as their opponent likely understood what was happening. But if this is still done with Pendulum summons, that it a bit much.
Remember waking up early on Saturday mornings and watching yu-gi-yo GX or the original yu-gi-yo and jamming out to the catchy openings as a kid. i miss those simple days, everything was easy to understand. but now... good grief i feel so left behind. its like learning to play for the first time all over again.
I hear you man, it's been nearly thirteen years for me extra deck, extra monsters, face up, face down graveyards, banishing, pendulums, syncros~ I'm so lost lol
spell speeds are pretty simple tbh, you can only respond to an effect with another effect who has an equal or higher spell speed spell speed 3 : counter traps spell speed 2 : monster's quick effect, quick-play spell, normal and continous traps spell speed 1 : everything else
My friends are always complaining about how YGO got so complicated with Synchro Summoning and I haven't the heart to tell them about Pendulum Summoning
Synchro ( need Tuner Monster ) * 2 Stars Tuner Monster + 6 Stars Monster = 8 Stars Synchro Monster * 1 Star Tuner Monster + 3 Stars Monster + 4 Stars Monster = 8 Stars Synchro Monster XYZ ( need Same Level Monster ) * 4 Stars Level Monster + 4 Stars Level Monster = Rank 4 XYZ Monster Pendulum ( need Pendulum Monster ) * Scale 2 Monster + Scale 8 Monster on Magic or Trap Zone = Summon 3 to 7 Stars Monsters on Monster Zone as many as you want. Link ( need Monster with Effect ) * Tribute 1 Effect Monster = Link 1 Monster * Tribute 2 Effect Monster + Link 1 Monster = Link 3 Monster Maximum ( need 3 Maximum Monster ) * Place 3 Maximum Monster on the field usually at the same time for Rush Duel rules but it count as 1 Monster. Just think it's like Magnet Valkryon or XYZ Dragon Cannon where they combine without Fusion ( Polymerization ). That's a basic knowledge of me as Anime watcher. Magic or Trap are the worst rather than summoning, i can't even differentiate between a Trap, Quick Magic and Counter Magic because it can happens during opponent's turn. Time limit for each turn need to be only 2 minutes at max and people must say the description. Yeah Pro Player already understand the effect but not everyone knows the meaning of nearly 100.000 cards.

Rainbow Overdragon can be fusion summoned or special summoned by tributing 1 Rainbow Dragon
I've known all these rules for years, but I randomly saw this in my recommended and decided to watch it. Quite entertaining!
I lost it after the syncro section...........................
Very educative, very simple, and very summarized .. thank you ❤️
I must say I had a great time in the Pepe format. Older magic players (who used to play yugioh) would stop by the yugioh tournament tables, be intrigued by my weird new half spell monkey card, and become quickly disgusted when I end turn with multiple negates and over 10k in damage waiting for my 8 year old opponent
As someone who stopped after the original anime, this was useful because I for one did not know anything about synchro or pendulum monsters etc
Try watch his updated video on pendulum summons
I love the fact that with Superheavy Samurai you can make a link tuner monster, it's always weird and quite funny
Why your closed captions are in Vietnamese? 😂😂😂. By the way thank you for your videos I love them.
Finally know wtf a link monster does sheesh between that and synchro xyz made me only play old school Yu-Gi-Oh thanks man
I haven’t been played since 2005 but I suddenly got intrigued
This is very comprehensive
I haven't played Yu-Gi-Oh for a very long time
And this video explains, including the changes since I didn't play (I played GX on PS2)
We also have the thing called table flip, which instantly creates rage and a draw
I lost interest during the 5D era and this pendulum mechanic is still a whole field of science for me.
It's not hard at all lol.
Pendulum summon is just one of those mechanic that need to explained by verbally not visually.
bro thank you! i just got in the game recently and you helped me understand a lot of things
The best video for beginners and returning players
I'm 27 years old, I started collecting and playing Yu-Gi-Oh (very casually) when I was like 6... I had no idea there were spell speeds ='D Also link monsters scare me. Pendulum was confusing enough haha
Yes I would love a video on the entire rules of Yugioh. Let me go get my popcorn, since it's going to be a 10hour video.
there's a book in japan about every ruling in yugioh and it's like 500 pages long
When you said counter, I heard "cancer".
*A idiots guide*
Teach Speed Spells
After finishing the video I realize he didn't talked about missing the time, so I will explain to anyone reading this.
Totally amazing of the different types of cards in yugioh and I love all things yugioh
Ey, do we have a Ritual-Spell Pendulum? That would be lit🤔👌
Best UA-cam video for teaching you how to win in court
Here's a drinking game for you, take a shot everytime you see a boomer complaining about how YuGiOh changed and is bad now
The joke is on them because they are bad at YGO XD
You forgot to mention that if you lose while Seal of Orichalcos is in play, you lose your soul! XD
Thank you so much 🥰 my Yu-Gi-Oh knowledge is limited with duel links only, but pendulium cards are truly complicated tho 😶
They aren't.
5ds is a nice cutoff point imo..lol glad I came up on the game when I did. I can appreciate the expansion but I say we just play by/with the good ol' sh*t accordingly 🤝
I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh when I was a kid. But when I watched this video and reach "Spell speed" Part my head spin
Never knew toon was an ability. Thanks for the info!
Oh. I thought pendulum would be more complex than that.
... I'm almost disapointed...
This helped me a lot, thanks.
Thank you 👏👏👏
This helped me a significant amount understanding Synchro, still seems a tad complex compared to XYZ but it makes more sense now.
U couldnt understand synchro but u could understand Links?
@@darkblade9924 Links?
Is that XYZ? Pretty Straight forward...get the right amount of monsters with the same level & boom.
Synchro you need specific tuners and whatnot.
@@abdizur8765 he doesnt know lmaooo
Ok so which one is links then smart guy?
I watched the original Anime and little bit of GX and GX seems more appropriate now since you need a degree to deal with the newer cards.
Ive seen that The Pendulum method is so broken that Konami has ceased production.
@@abdizur8765 Thanks for calling me smart
Anyway,Links are the last mechanic
Also what does ceased production mean?
Do you mean like they stopped printing new cards? If yes, that is not true as we got a new summoning mechanic aka Links which u can see at the end of the video i think, also Pendulum suck right now as master rule 4 killed all pend decks but there is still some pend believers like trif gaming who can do well with pend because of their skill
Links are now the meta.Synchros,XYZ's,Pendulums,Fusions are all powercrept by Links
Spell speed 4 is conditional as fuck and I am thankful for that.
Can’t wait till they add a new extra deck monster that’s just outrageous like Ritual-fusions. Where you have use a ritual spell to tribute monsters and fusion 2 separate monsters to summon.
oh yea the good old chuner monsters!
this video destroyed any argument that YuGiOh is broken. You just showed that it is a complex game like any other well structured game.
It's designed brilliantly if you ask me.
I play duel links, so I never really knew what link monsters were. Thanks
I don't care if I'm ridiculed for this but why Konami didn't just refer to the speeds regarding traps as "Trap Speed"? Raise your hand up if you ever had to explain spell speed to someone new and it more or went like this:
"But those are traps"
"Yes I know but the mechanics is explained as spell speed"
"Spell speed for traps?"
"Yes"
"And not spell cards?"
"Actually for those too"
"And all the speeds are for all the traps?"
"Yes."
"And the spells too?"
"Yes. Well only up to speed 2"
"What about 3?"
"Counter"
"Counter spells?"
"No counter traps"
"Ah ok...so traps are spells and they got speed 3"
"Yes. No! Nononoo, the spells go up--
"To 3"
"NO TO 1, the one's that are quick--"
"And the traps go to 2 because they're spells that have speed"
*blinks several times*
"What?"
"Ya wanna play Uno?"
Imagine this video but it’s literately EVERY single individual card EVER printed 💀
I might try to make a deck using cards from my childhood just to see how hard they get scragged by an op tuner deck.
Holy molly. That's a lot of card types.
going in unsleeved. brave man.
Surprised they haven't made Link-Pendulums.
To be honest, I needed to see this video because my friends couldn't explain to me jack s*** about Yu-Gi-Oh even though they play the game.
3:05 WHERE IS "GOD CREATOR"?
4:08 THE MAXIMUN CARDS ENTER HERE TOO? OR THERE WILL BE ANOTHER VIDEO FOR RUSH AND SPEED DUELS?

"Pendulum Mosnter have 5 varients"
Which one is your pendulum card?
(Anime) Supreme King Z-Arc: yes.
Literally from the old days trying to wrap my head around, so far all good then the weird pendulum things happen and I'm liek, excuse me?
Haven't played since gx but watching this I think pendulum were probably a mistake and the only one. Links seems really nice and brings a new way to play, synchro/xyz seems hard to get on the field so it balances out.
Has someone who only watched Yugioh classic as a kid and never played the game and only got into it in 2018.
Pendulums aren't near 5% as complex as people make it sound and Links aren't good, they are just way too spam-able to the point where they are easily abused, if they weren't this cheap, they wouldn't be as used as they are.
We need Ritual Pendulum cards. Play them in the S/T to use them like ritual spells.
You mean like... Megalith?
wow amazing especially the vmax cards and the gx cards are op oh sry wrong card game bye
I've been playing Yu-Gi-Oh consistently since it's North American debut.
Some of these comments have me feeling like I'm back in time in different eras of the game based on the complaint listed lol.
Most people complaining don't even play the game and weren't good at it back then nor now. Plus they don't understand basic card game mechanics.
They should of stopped at Fusion but syncho is cool I guess and sure I’ll let xyz slide. But all the other stuff wasn’t needed. Like they didn’t really add much to the game other than give you more ways to get to the same place
Pendulums are the reason why I left this game and thanks to this video I still have no idea how they are used
It's not hard.
nice guide 😁
Pendulum was a mistake. Everything else was fine and you could pull some wicked complicated things back in the day. People would often skip going through everyhing as their opponent likely understood what was happening. But if this is still done with Pendulum summons, that it a bit much.
i have a friend who knows Yu-Gi-Oh, but, i will let her know all about Ygo by watching this with her
How is it that I stopped playing in xyz era and you explained the other eras and I’m still lost lmao
the tcg is called duel monster
Great video! Keep it up
I feel like a master already😂
I miss the magic cards like monster reborn
Literally you die in 1 turn now in yu gi oh card game. It’s fucking crazy. I’m not even exaggerating. Takes the fun out of it.
You only die in 1 turn if your deck is bad. Duels last a few more turns longer than that. Turns 1 and 2 tend to have the most action due to handtraps.
Maybe you should explain that token can and cannot be use as materials for extradeck summon
depends on how the token was summoned some cards say you cant use them for a sync summon or link summon etc
Damn..when i was 7-10 years old there's no Syncro / xyz / ritual..
Now im come back to play again , now have link and pendelum??? This hard😂

Xyz: am I a joke to you?

i know their feel ngl, i only just understood Xyz last year
Synchro ( need Tuner Monster )
* 2 Stars Tuner Monster + 6 Stars Monster = 8 Stars Synchro Monster
* 1 Star Tuner Monster + 3 Stars Monster + 4 Stars Monster = 8 Stars Synchro Monster
XYZ ( need Same Level Monster )
* 4 Stars Level Monster + 4 Stars Level Monster = Rank 4 XYZ Monster
Pendulum ( need Pendulum Monster )
* Scale 2 Monster + Scale 8 Monster on Magic or Trap Zone = Summon 3 to 7 Stars Monsters on Monster Zone as many as you want.
Link ( need Monster with Effect )
* Tribute 1 Effect Monster = Link 1 Monster
* Tribute 2 Effect Monster + Link 1 Monster = Link 3 Monster
Maximum ( need 3 Maximum Monster )
* Place 3 Maximum Monster on the field usually at the same time for Rush Duel rules but it count as 1 Monster.
Konami want to make duel academy a reality. Imagine 20 years from now yugi oh so complex it become a course.
All they need is an augmented/virtual reality holo-emitter where they can project every card in your deck, with an option to go on the shadow realm if you lose.
