Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage series composer) is also working on a new Genesis/Megadrive shooter as well, called Earthion! Possibly out in Summer of 2024!
I think the genesis was ahead of its time in many ways, seeing this just proves that anything is just about possible here. Looks greats, sounds great. This is amazing!
Great-looking game. You're right that one baddie did remind me of Sinistar. Hopefully we'll see this game on an Evercade cartridge like Tanzer. Thanks for the video, John!
It's gonna be Very Nice to see you John here in retrocon Brazil this year. I'm a Very fan of your work, and I'd like to take a Photo with you here. See ya
You're absolutely right about the after-market support for the Genesis/MD. Can't believe how many NEW games I've purchased for the system in the last few years. Definitely looking forward to this one.
Man look at that blast processing! This game is absolutely gorgeous! One of the coolest looking Genesis & one of the coolest looking shmups I've ever seen. It's so exciting how many homebrew/aftermarket Genesis games are being made! So exciting that the Genesis is very much still alive in 2024!
Last time I backed something with Mega Cat was four years ago, the appropriately named Phantom Gear. Still waiting on that one. I can't give them any more of my money until that one shows up.
Favorite Genesis shooter that I've played probably MUSHA, but still need to play more. Wish I'd found out about the Eliminate Down pre order sooner. For newer releases, I own Xenocrisis, Demon's of Asterborg and Astebros. All are great but Astebros is the best of the bunch.
I love the shmups from Team Grybanser Fox (some of them in this Mega Cat project) since the Dreamcast days, their shmups are very inspired by the legendary Toaplan games.
It’s fantastic seeing colors you didn’t normally see being used. Definitely adding this to my Genesis library. Many SNES games had added chips in their cartridges for improved graphics, sounds etc while the Genesis didn’t see much of that. Genesis was mostly pure software/programing. I enjoy firing up Paprium on my triple bypass modded Model 2
@@inceptional yup when realistically all sega had to do was, allow for 32mbt cartridges to be used on super ambitious titles and not watch the price. Games that use the 32mbt cart excelled in every department. If sega had foresight they would have not capped the ram at such a minuscule amount . 64 kbt of ram🙄. 96 kbt would have been perfect And that 8 kbt of sound ram was just atrocious thinking.. If she had their head screwed on right they would have had a damn 16 or 24 kbt of sound ram with 2 extra channels dedicated to voice and sfx only Freeing up the 8 for all music 🤷🏾♂️. And a 12-bitcolor palette instead of a 9-bit With that 96 kbt of ram would hv allowed 128 colors on screen with smooth gameplay … what do u need after that for 16bit generation .. Anything over would need minimum dithering which would not be noticeable as now .
Wonder if they'll take overscan of CRTs into account... Looks like the HUD is right on the border and it'll probably be cut off if playing on a classic setup. Remember the same thing happening with Metal Dragon.
@@DancesRainyStreetsI said might But they both look like marvelous work.! We need them all to keep coming. We need games to keep pushing the boundaries on the genny. With more depth to gameplay and story and features. We will never stop playing
if they can make an modern rpg but the graphics are classic, then they can revived sega/snes hardware to its maximum potential. the reason why the games back then are little bit lack of long play style and maps and anything is because of low in storage. if someone makes a games for this console in 1gb or more file size rom, they can apply for guinness book f world record. but im sure its a long and pain in the ass work for dev teams, also the consumer might not like the price tag.
Did you know in the early 90s? I'd realized parallax scrolling is the future of 3D? Well of course, xeno crisis is my favorite aftermarket game. It's on platforms
It’s got European software vibes, not my style but I’ve never really been into the newer shmup/ shooters being developed on old consoles… exception would be M2
Aftermarket 16 bit Sega makes life good. Although, I think the NeoGeo gets no love. I'd like to see what developers could drum up for that. Maybe Magician Lord 2.
Why do all the shooters on Genesis need to have the ship move around instantly like in Thunder Force- why can't these new shooters from the indies have you start slow and then powerup the speed to what you like, as in Life Force or R-Type among lots of others. The instant movement makes it feel like you're just a developer using the controller as a tool to pick and place the asset somewhere on the screen too quickly - only you get penalized when it touches anything else. No inertia or momentum at all.
I don't think you're appreciating the fact that the legendary yuzo koshiro is making a new genesis game on a console from the eighties, the oldest and only true 16-bit console. Doesn't this impress you? Look, we all liked the snes as toddlers, but the genesis is the adult 16-bit console that endures.
It looks very repetitive. I wouldn't pay money for it. I don't know if I would even play it for more than 5 minutes. I like old games, I like Sega Mega Drive 2, but I don't jump to every new game no matter how boring it is just because it's something new :)
I love seeing newer shooters for the Genesis.
Same. But with the background scrolling like that..... Will it be fixed in time for launch?
I've already backed this game from the Kickstarter campaign. Go check it out, before you miss out.
The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive is and was so good. That shooter looks amazing.

Earthion is crazy good. The quality feels like an arcade game.
Is it up for backing or pre-order?

@@maxden80 Thanks, dear.
It's the only new megadrive game I'm planning to buy, big fan of Yuzo from the moment I first played revenge of Shinobi back in 1990.
This looks sick. Love Genesis shooters. My favorite is Eliminate Down. Also love Truxton. Really cool to see new shooters coming out for the console.
I'm also looking forward to Earthion. That's looking to be the better game, whereas ZPF relies heavily more on style.
Agreed Earthion looking better

Besides the mentioned games parts of this also reminds me of two games on the Neo Geo, LAst Resort and Blazing Star.

I guess I can see a little bit of F-Zero in that ship.

One of my favourite shooters on Sega genesis is bio hazard battle❤loved the graphics and style of gameplay and the ost is pure fire at least for me 😅

Possibly later. Typically a physical release on original hardware is first, followed by offerings on other platforms.
