Don’t feel bad bashing the tires… I rode the original Battlax adventure tires for 9000 km now. Yesterday I changed them for Conti Trail Attack 3, and the V-Strom feels like a totally different bike. More nimble, tips into corners by itself and feels much more comfortable in corners. I’m still breaking them in, so I can’t say much about how it feels closer to its limits, but right now I’m pretty satisfied with my purchase.

I have a DL650 ABS Adventure and an SV650, and both shift very nicely. As a matter of fact, I have owned around 40 bikes in the last 50+ years, and they are among the slickest shifting bikes I’ve ever ridden. Based on what you described, something is definitely wrong with yours.

My DL650 is from 2018, so it’s the same model. First gear is sometimes a bit spongy/mushy, but all other gears shift very precisely.

@@papajulietromeo-650 I’ve never experienced anything but pure shifting bliss from my 645cc Suzuki 90 degree twins. (Knock on wood.) I have put a combined 30K miles on them so far.

I have one, great Bike for the city, when I travel the suspension is not good and the front break is weak, so great bike for the city and no so good to travel.

Yeah I get that. I personally liked doing longer journeys on it, suspension seemed ok......but yeah the brakes are not the best. Thanks for watching 😁.

IIRC this bike have some kind of auto-throttle when you let off clutch.
The gear flickering is probably because dash calculates gear based on wheel vs engine speed so clutch messes that up. Still, weird.

Yeah that makes sense i guess. Or they just gave me a dodgy suzuki 🤣.

I thought the DL650 had a proper gear position indicator sensor? AFAIK it’s a 3-wire sensor with power, neutral contact and a gear-dependent output voltage on the third pin. Mine always indicates the proper gear even in standstill (which an rpm based indicator can’t).
I guess the sensor or its wiring/ground contact is faulty.
The auto-throttle thing is a slight RPM increase when you release the clutch. Makes the engine feel a tad bigger and helps with slow-speed maneuvering.

I actually put a deposit on one as I'm seeing less point in having more power etc as rules get stricter and whatever and it just seems to do everything easy....... Might miss the excitement of something more crazy though 🤔

If that is what you want out of it, you have made a great purchase. It is very easy and has everything you need.
