Skimming doesn't give you a full picture of the book. I have doubts that the( probably overworked) administrators read the books in their entirety with an open mind and a pen an paper, analyzing them like they would write a book report. The last book listed," The Big Questions Book of Sex & Consent", sounds like a good resource. I've looked it up, saw the chapter titles some (which include ETHICS) it only support my initial impression. I have to read it to make a final conclusion. It is labled level 5, for fifth graders and up, which I find fitting. Some teens start puberty around that age so of course they would be questioning and some even exploring. I recall a rumor in 6 grade about somebody in class having a condom and/or sex. And I know for a fact that an 8th grader has sex ( probably with a high schooler) because they got pregnant. A book like that could help a teen learn some red flags about relationships in a safe manner instead of firsthand experiences. Even nonfiction books can help, I read one which has a particular scene where the wife was tied down and beaten by the husband while the son witnessed and tried to leave the house for good. That book open my eyes to domestic abuse and gave me some examples to avoid, no real life experience needed. That book and "The Big Question Book about Sex & Consent" are definitely not meant for younger kids like and eleven year old, but the school library has a level system for various of reasons. If ppl thinks something is not meent for young children, they should look at the book level not banning. Yet again, the book being banned talks about sexual orientation and possibly gender, so that is probably the reason why they are trying to ban it, not its age appropriateness.
