- Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested at his home in Lahore on Saturday after a court found him guilty of corruption and sentenced him to three years in jail.
The former international cricket star had long warned he would be arrested to prevent him from participating in elections due to be held before the end of the year.
Anyone convicted of a criminal offence is usually disqualified from contesting elections or holding office in Pakistan.
Khan, 70, has faced a slew of court cases for charges he has said are politically motivated since being removed from power in a vote of no confidence last year, and he was not present when he was sentenced on Saturday.
In May, he was arrested and briefly detained in Islamabad for the same case, sparking deadly unrest during which supporters of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party poured onto the streets and clashed with police.
In the aftermath of his release following three days in custody, PTI was targeted by a crackdown with thousands of arrests, reports of intimidation and muzzling of the media.

He had live sessions where he explained every single question thrown at him. How many of your political leaders have done that or even has the courage to do that? Not only that, but he started giving many many online interviews to different news channels around the world, and yes, answered every single question of theirs. Basically he was trying to be as much transparent as possible with the people. After 9 may incident, I discovered his channel. At that time he had less than 500k subscribers. Now in less than 3 months, he's at 1.5 million. This should give you a hint on how many people actually support him.

If you look into the case, the court case, and not the media reports, you will know this. Read the indictment of any of the charges laid against him. The case against Imran Khan is completely different and it’s fabricated. We know this. But to think the two are anything alike, or that Trump isn’t a man who sold his country to Saudi, you have a gross misunderstanding of both. You should read the facts and not propaganda from Western media!

According to US defense expert Stephen Cohen (2003) Pakistani military directly & indirectly consumes 54.7pc of national resources. It runs commercial empire worth $100Bn from Bakery to banks, usurps 20pc of plum civilian posts & corners prime land as retirement benefits. Army cannot give up its enormous privileges & needs pliant civilian govt as puppet which then joins in the loot as quid pro quo.
Imran Khan had always opposed Army's double games especially against his Pashtuns where Army gave secret drone bases to the US kill Pashtun Taliban & clandestinely armed Taliban to kill infidel Americans to milk US dollars by prolonging war at the cost of Pashtun misery. Army’s double games have devasted Pashtun nation & Pashtun culture on both sides of the Durand LINE.
Unprecedented economic crisis directly related to unsustainable military empire & Army’s costly misadventures have brought Pakistan on the edge of a precipice.
