- Chrystia Freeland, the deputy prime minister and minister of finance, holds a news conference to welcome the first of 340 battery-electric buses to Toronto’s public transit fleet. The federal and Toronto governments together invested $700 million to procure the buses, which are all expected to be in service by the end of 2026.
Minister Freeland is joined by Gary Anandasangaree (minister of Crown-Indigenous relations and MP for Scarborough-Rouge Park, Ont.), Olivia Chow (mayor of Toronto), Jamaal Myers (chair of the Toronto Transit Commission), and Greg Percy (the commission’s interim CEO).
