I've been running a Stock Zenoah G270 in my cheap HPI Baja lately, with only a speed gear set of 53-21 and even that stock G270 easily pulls the baja, no problem. In fact it still has good low end power, and super high RPM. I think these low displacement motors are a real GEM for this chassis.
Yeah these small 5B platforms pair nicely with small bores!! They are a lot of fun! This was a brand new engine so I was beating and seating the ring with lower gear sets to keep the engine revving high for a good run in! This was a customers race engine that I Allen had me tune and run it in for him. The end result was a race won!

Ok here goes, I just received my Roven T5 four-wheel-drive short course truck the new one they only come in black and blue 36 cc absolutely love it. I haven’t even put fuel in the tank yet. How do you suggest that I should break this in could you give me some tips please I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much. Oh and I’ll be using VP premix 25 to 1 fuel. I’m really trying to do this right so any help like I said would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much my brother God bless.
Hey brother Dave! Congratulations on your new awesome truck. Make sure you go through it well and make sure things are tight. The 36 dual ring is unfortunately not a very good engine. It will wear out pretty fast and not make a whole lot of power. I have videos on how to fix that. A zenoah 32 would be a much better engine. But if you wanna run the 36 , I would recommend 50:1 , 25:1 is a lean in fuel mix and easier to ruin the engine with that mix. 50:1 gives you more fuel and more fuel means more lubrication because the oil is suspended in the fuel. These engines are tiny and the carburetors are too. 25:1 is a very very old mix from the 60’s and 70’s I do not recommend it. Secondly dont idle it and dont baby it , you want to run this engine in and the best way to do that is “beat it to seat it” getting the engine to operating temperatures and high rpms will allow the piston to seat to the cylinder much faster and thats the name of the game. You want to get that ring seal beaten in , for reliable starting and great power. But as I said if you want a 32 you can take that engine out and swap it for a zen 32 from fearless for 100 bucks I believe. Now if you want to use the 25:1 you can but just make sure you do not turn those carb needles in past 1/4 of a turn from where they are set now. The name of the game is to give your engine as much fuel as it can handle. And run it brother dont idle it except for a few minutes to warm it up and then run it wide open. You want long back n forth runs. On and off the clutch will create excess heat and glaze the clutch. I hope that helps brother. You feel free to ask me what ever you want. The answers I give you are the proven methods I use everyday and have used for many years in this hobby and I dont have issues I have serious fun! I could do that with my eyes closed. This is my second fist scale. The first one actually gave away to my nephew because he was going to the military and he needed something to do before he went because he was stressing so I gave it to him. And I’m sitting here looking at this truck and it’s so beautiful and I want to do things right and I was planning on getting rid of this motor anyway. So this is my plan. Let me know what you think. I’m gonna use this 36 as practice for the break-in. I don’t care if it blows to the gods, so be it. After that I’d like to get a 32 I don’t know why I just like them better but any recommendations you have believe me I will listen to 110%. So for breaking you’re saying start it let it warm up a little bit and then run it like I stole it? And I believe that too, because I have heard that before and it’s always the most knowledgeable people that swear by that beat it to see it. I love it.
