Thank you Austin! Well done! I don’t think your background has to be either or. Why not incorporate framed art or photos that you love as well as perhaps 3 smaller floating shelves, large enough to hold easy to care for plants. Floating shelves are easy to install and hardware doesn’t show, bringing more focus on the plants. I say 3 shelves because for some reason odd numbers in decor seem to be more pleasing to the eye. Whatever you choose to do, I’m sure will be beautiful.
50 now, and everything is paid for. Fortunately, I had a college economics teacher who taught me a lesson when I was 18 years old. That lesson was: you can't buy something else for every purchase you make. Having multiple sources of income is prudent, as is living within your means. I have a 13-year-old vehicle because it is all I need, I like it, and I can do whatever I want with it. I retired with $4 million, and I can pay my bills without stress, but I don't live like I have that. I have no complaints.
Right alongside you. No debt, early retirement. Children are well-cared for. On 11 acres overlooking the river valley, I'm constructing the house of my dreams. There are many methods to get rich right now, but only real-time professionals are capable of making such high-volume, near-perfect trades.
I agree. This is why I work with an investment advlsor, I currently have $630k in a well-diversified portfollo that has experienced exponential growth and is also well-matched for every season of the market. We are working on a 'more figures ballpark' goal this year.
Not shelves over the couch. I hope young people listen to this video. I am 60 and have never made a lot of money but have always watched the small amounts, never had a flashy life, and have no debt (including no mortgage) and am not looking at working til I die to keep the too much house and $$$ cars going. I have peers who still have monthly house, car, credit card, payments that are more than I’ve ever earned. I am happy to not have that stress.
I would not duckorate with shelves over the sofa because you might bang your head into them when getting up or down. You need a big statement piece like a painting of the Rocky Mountains (if you miss them) or a Georgia/Atlanta scene for your new location. A wide antique mirror, or assorted personal photos arranged in a rectangular shape. The plant looks nice on the coffee table. A big one for the corner by the windows would look nice too. Enjoy duckorating! It’s fun but expensive.
This is 100% true. I make a good income as do most of my friends I got my MBA with. I am the only one with investments outside of a 401k, no CC debt or student loans and an emergency fund. I'm shocked that people who are highly educated in finance and accounting have negative net worth in their 40s.
Most earn roughly $150k per person or $300k households. One of our $300k households friends have kids starting high school that they haven’t even saved for college yet because they “can’t afford it” I am so appalled by things like this when I hear them from friends.
Assets over liabilities always a good plan. I like something flat over my couch, like a painting or print. Shelves with plants are awesome on another wall, not over my head.
First of all, the apartment is looking lovely! Secondly, and importantly, I just wanted to say thank you. I've embarked on a no buy/low buy year in an attempt to pay off my debt. I don't have much compared to other people (less than £5k) but we're living on the poverty line so it's hard. Your videos have been such a help to me and have really helped with relieving some of my anxiety. So thank you!
Many years ago, a writer wrote a book about financial literacy. He indicated working won’t give you stable financial safety, but let the money work for you, and invest to create cash flow.
My house will be paid off in 3 years its worth over 1 million I have 400k in my pension investments I have no other debt I drive a 2015 honda accord I'm on pace to retire with a net worth over 2 million in 6 years🎉🎉🎉
No Austin, no plants. You already have plants. How about artwork, some beautiful abstract art to accentuate your minimalist decor. Your place is coming along so beautifully. Gracias por todos tus consejos financieros. 👍❤️
My husband and I plant our money and watch it grow. We are working on being wealthy. Our neighbor in Venus (yes, that is the name of it) tells us how rich he is. It's a boring conversation. We are too busy upgrading our lot, fixing the barn, and preparing to build the house.
Keep that minimalist clean look. Just a modern art picture on that wall. Shapes and colours not pictoral. VERY wealthy people are indeed discreet, they probably dress down for a day out in the city.
Great info, as always, Austin! Decorating the wall behind your couch with a good-size mirror or favorite travel photo (blown up to the appropriate size for that space) would look best. Many frame shops offer DIY framing on site which lowers the cost considerably. Plus, if you decide to change out your photos from time to time, just keep the size the same so you can keep using the same frame! Plants in varying pots that will grow at varying heights may detract from your presence behind your camera. My two cents - ha! Whatever you decide, have fun and feel proud of your accomplishments thus far 🙂
Thank you very much, Austin. This was a great video and I appreciate your fine examples of the differences of the wealthy and the rich. Cheers from Nova Scotia, Austin! Keep up the great work and I hope you are enjoying Georgia.
Oops forgot to say, I’d suggest no shelves on that wall. Maybe a nice painting what brings you joy! I have a large painting of a window with ocean view that I love looking at every day 😊.
Hello 👋👋 Austin Williams, Agreed 👍💯. I believe in Wealth Not 🚫 Rich. No Liabilities. Strictly Asset believer. These days I am having " Physical Gold Bars Stacking Policy 😊"
Hi Augstin and thank you for all the useful money info! Floating shelves with some plants and other decorative items would look great as your background.
Glad to see Steve Maguire made the trip back with you. I sure hope he paid is fair share of the traveling expenses and rent! Great video as always. It is true what you say that we all can become wealthy by changing our mindset. I choose wealth any day!
At the very least, I now grasp the concept of leverage. Creating wealth and financial freedom isn't as tough as many people believe. Building wealth and remaining financially stable indefinitely is a lot easier with the appropriate information. Participating in financial programs and products is the only true approach to make a high income and remain affluent indefinitely.
good video. I put my money in property. Mortgage paid off. I think I need to work more on my savings type assets. I see so many people in my area have Porsches, but it is just dead money, particularly maintenance
Great video! The new apartment is looking great. The shelf would look great with some lights on it as back light. And maybe leave a spot for the 100k youtube play button 😉
This was one of the most informative videos I've ever watched about money/frugality. It has you reflect on where you stand financially. Cool apartment there BTW :)
I lived a frugal life and am now retired and don’t need to worry about money. That said… frugality is now burned into who I am. When frugality has made its indelible mark, the “man” ceases to exist. I’ve lived nearly my whole life debt-free. When I see newer vehicles on the street, I’m thankful I don’t have a loan to pay off. I never created a budget. I just made sure my account balance was always ascending.
In the financial world one could often still be rich ("buying liabilities" for investments purposes) and be wealthy (benefitting from such aforesaid arrangements) at the same time, if they have been structured to minimise risks.
Thank you for this video Austin! I am now watching more of your videos. Wish I was smarter with my finances when I was younger. Thankfully I don’t have debt. I rent an apartment (can’t afford buying), but have learned to be happy with what I have. Don’t need a car and nature is what brings me joy. Working on changing bad habits as I am a recovering impulse buyer (in low scale, as I never really had credit card debt). But always room to improve!
As a CPA a car is an Asset, a depreciating asset. I would substitute asset with investment but then again you can buy a car or truck to become an investment in a business to create money as well.
I have 2 Passive Income Assets - Agricultural land Rent+ 1St floor portion of My house on Rent 😊 I Also have an Active Income Job for Emergency Funds and for Monthly Expenses 😊
Wow! Austin great video. Opened my eyes wide. Made it back to Georgia safely. As for the wall behind you, I would choose colorful art work. The two plants in the background should suffice ? Marc
The car analogy I agree with to an extent but either way unless you live in the city you’ll need a car…so a better example would’ve been buying a Lexus vs buying a Toyota camry
Good video with great insight. You wanted an idea for over the couch. If the light in the room is limited and the area is not very large a nice good size mirror over the couch would be great. It increases the visual space and is almost no upkeep. It will never go out of style. You can always add plants on the side of the sofa. A shelf with plants over the sofa may be kind of messy over fabric. 😊
num 4 is so me. Whats great about it is nobody expects you to pay for them or loan them money. Only my few closests friends know and know I am frugal as well 😂
I like your simplicity. Plan your living slowly but be a minimalist. My friend as you age you need things simpler. If you end up with a health issue you may not have the energy if it's complex. Make sure you have a good health insurance that covers very expensive meds. You may be the healthiest person but you don't know what your genetic makeup has in store for you. From personal experience please take good care of your HEALTH 🎉🎉
Very good video. I do value things, but I go with the old addage of making sure you can afford it before you buy it. Also, I'm trying to get back into investing again so that i can get back into my financial journey.

What are your thoughts on the background? Shelves or other idea?!
Shelves require dusting. I’d find a large painting/picture at a thrift store, one that makes you happy. Love the bright room, Austin.
A tapestry. If you find one you like :)
Thank you Austin! Well done! I don’t think your background has to be either or. Your three framed photos spread across 2/3 of the width of the couch. LOVE the coffee table.
