The smoke comes from the diesel fuel on shutdown as there still is some unburnt in there and smokes against the hot metal, the fuel leak on startup is excess fuel that gets by the igniter that did not burn.
Yes it drinks feel pretty quickly I think in my plane it will burn 128 oz in 5 minutes at full throttle. But it does way better at half. It does make 47 lb of thrust so it's a monster.
There are several manufacturers of RC turbines around the world, here in the USA this one was a king tech turbine, Swiwin makes good turbines also as well as jet cat turbines. Let me know where you live and I can help out.
Yes they are very reliable unless you're rebuild center does not line up the bearings successfully. I have had problems with this in the past but my engine is doing okay.

Does this model suck fuel really bad? Looking to do a turbine swap with my gripen and get at least 10 minutes of flight time.
