    First impression after only one short ride on the touring seat last fall:
    I like the fact that the small bolster built into the back of the seat forms a nice pocket for your arse to sit into, while adding a small bit of support to the lumbar area of the back. The wide dish of the seat, same as on the OEM seat, is what gives you comfort for longer rides due to the better support for more of your arse, unlike the horrible wooden and narrow plank that RE fits to their 650 models. The added bling of the RE logo on the seat is a nice touch too. I'm 5' 9" and the touring seat seems better than the OEM for sure.

      Hi MP,
      yes, it’s definitely a worthwhile upgrade although for the first two or three rides it feels extremely firm. But once it’s broken in, the support compared to the squishier standard seat brings comfort advantages on longer rides. And as you say, the embroidered logo makes this budget bike look a lot more premium.
      Thanks for watching and giving us your input MP 👍
      Cheers 🥃

    I have both seats and tested them out over 800km of riding. The standard seat is softer, the touring seat required some time to break in, but is my preferred option. I'm 177cm, (5'10.5") tall and weight 66kg in my riding gear. Both seats allow you to move around and change position.
    I ride with my bony bum hard up against the back of the seat. When I'm having fun fanging through the twisties, I move forward to better control the bike. Either seat is good, I like the look of the touring seat so it stays on the bike.
    Cheers, from sunny Australia. 👍🏍

      I think I will probably end up feeling the same way but am eager to try the standard seat for a prolonged period nonetheless.
      One thing that is clear is that tall folks might not get on with the touring seat, which is something I never considered before but based on my “science” seems to be a genuine issue !
      Thanks for supporting the channel and commenting OW. I will run the standard seat for a while and make a follow up video with my real world experience and final verdict.

      I too move about a lot (standard seat) and also find my tail bones pressed on the rear lip of the seat, which is not so comfortable after a time, so slide forward but that can be too far forward and so it goes on. However...
      It looks to me like the just released Classic 350 is essentially a re-dressed Meteor so it may be possible to fit the flatter seats from that model, which I would like to try. Might be a taller seat height, yes, but otherwise not so locked into a fixed space. I am not tall either, just bony in the wrong place perhaps.

      Hi John, glad to have been of assistance !
      I actually feel the same way, I'd prefer my feet to be a bit more ahead of my knees to be honest. I'd like to be able to stretch my legs a bit straighter.
      I'm currently testing the standard seat on my bike and although in theory I can sit 6cm further back, it is not enough to make any real difference to the angle in my legs.
      But in your case, the touring seat will in all likelihood make matters slightly worse, it forces you to sit slightly further forward so probably not an option for you, if you are struggling already.

    Very useful comparison thanks. I suppose the flip side of the coin is that some of the pressure maybe taken off your arms and shoulders if you are sat slightly more forward (particularly if you suffer with Neck/Shoulder pain). I have longish legs - 32" inseam but suffer with an arthritic spine and neck and shoulder pain. Be interesting to hear if the touring seat gives you more of an upright stance and more support in the lower back region?👍🙂

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Jonathan, yes the touring seat definitely puts you in a more upright stance, I find myself sitting right up against the “backrest” part and it feels like my feet are only very slightly ahead of my knees. The seat doesn’t really give your back any support as such but it is nice having the raised rear section to push back up against whilst riding. With regard to your shoulders, with the touring seat you will be up to 6cm nearer to the handlebars, which should be helpful. Just sit at the very rear of the standard seat and scootch forwards 6cm and that will be exactly where the touring seat will have you sitting.
      I’m glad you discovered my channel and found the video useful.
      I will be fitting the standard seat soon and spending some time with it and will do a further video with a real world comparison soon.

      Ich denke dass der Umstieg auf die Meteor Dir gefallen wird, ist sicherlich eine gute Wahl.
      Wichtig ist nur, falls Du lange Beine hast, eventuell würde Dir der Standardsitz etwas mehr Spielraum geben. Wie erwähnt, die “Rückenlehne” des Touringsitzes raubt einem 6 cm Platz nach hinten. Ein Vergleichsvideo der beiden Sitze kommt bald. Ich denke aber bereits dass der Touringsitz erst ab ein paar Stunden bequemer sein wird als der Standardsitz. Der Standardsitz gibt auch Leuten mit längeren Beinen 6cm mehr Platz und ist eigentlich für sich schon recht bequem. Good to know. When I owned a '92 Bullet I moved the single seat backwards by about 3 inches by using some angle iron at the back and a block of wood at the front 😁
    I did this as I am 6'4'' tall... the bike did get through 3 MOT's with me although I did have to convince 1 tester that the seat was secure.😎
    Do you think that the Enfield accessory springs for the seat would move it back? Or are they purely for show?
    I like the look of the new 350 Classic but do wonder why they did not just put the larger Meteor tank on it. If I am ever at my nearest dealer (250 miles away) it may be obvious why this would not have worked.
    Enjoy your bike, Best wishes.

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides  3 роки тому +1

      Hi C, sorry for the delayed reply, was trying to find the springs you are talking about and couldn't. Judging by the way the Meteor seat is mounted I think it's unlikely that it can be moved further rearwards, certainly not without removing the pillion seat and that leaves you with some horrible bracketry exposed.
      If you want to optimise your seating options then I would suggest you start with the standard seat. I suspect you might even find that a bit cramped, in which case the touring seat will make things worse. If you want to combine the touring seat with a further back seating position I think you are going to have to get creative once again ( DIY brackets and blocks of wood 😉 ).
      I think the Bullet 350 will have the same lack of seating options since chassis-wise it is identical.
      For one as tall as your good self I think a test ride is an absolute must, unfortunately. You need to see whether the bike fits you or can somehow be made to fit.
      I hope this helps and I hope you can get a test ride soon.

    Hi, Please advice on proper sitting position on meteor, to sit on the curved surface or in the middle, to sit straight or lean forward especially in faster speed, to grip tank with legs or not. All this to prevent neck and back pain . I'm 5 foot 8 inches
    Thanks.

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Rohan,
      well you are about the same height as me, so that's a good start. I sit at the very rear of the flat part of the touring seat with my spine just about touching the raised part. That works for me but on longer rides I do move forwards and backwards again a few times, just to keep the blood flowing.
      Ultimately it depends on your own anatomy, where you should sit. Just find the spot where you are most comfortable, there is no one position which will work for everybody. On the Meteor I tend not to grip the tank with my knees, my knees rest lightly on the tank. Gripping the tank with your knees is really something for sportier riding, I find no need to do it when out relaxing with my Meteor. I find myself gripping the tank more when I am out on the Classic because I tend to ride that a bit harder 🤗
      Just move about and find out what works for you. Even if we are the same height, our arms and legs will be different lengths.
      Good luck finding your ideal riding position Rohan !

    Hey there, Is the OE seat considered the “low rider” seat I keep reading about, or is it a seat that’s even lower than the OE seat? Much appreciated if you know.

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides  Рік тому +1

      Hello Elizabeth,
      I have never seen a low ride seat in person but from what I gather it is 11 mm lower than the OEM seat. Presumably, since they are using the same filling and mesh as the touring seat, they are able to shave off 11 mm of height by using less but more dense foam to fill it.
      So the low ride seat should reduce the OEM seat height by just over a centimetre.
      You could only lower the seat height by using less foam really because the seat itself already sits on top of the frame rails, it can't be mounted any lower.
      So go for the low ride seat if you think 11mm is a worthwhile difference. Because it uses the denser foam and 3D mesh. like the touring seat, it will probably be more comfortable than the standard seat on longer rides too.
      I hope this helps. I have never tried one but this is the information I was able to find on the internet.
      Good luck choosing Elizabeth !

      no trouble at all, I'm happy to help.
      One great thing about the Meteor seats is that they are very narrow at the front. So even though you may ride sat further back on the seat, if you scoot forward to where the seat is at its narrowest, you can get a bit more foot on the ground if you need to move the bike about without using the engine. I have a 30" inside leg and can get about two thirds of both feet on the ground when sat in my normal riding position.

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides  7 місяців тому +1

      Hi there,
      yes, I would say that yours is the only case where the touring seat makes sense.
      The standard seat is actually softer than the touring seat, but because it lacks support, it can become uncomfortable on longer rides.
      The touring seat is really quite hard when you first sit on it. But that is good, because it means that your butt is being SUPPORTED and that should reduce pressure points and discomfort on longer rides.
      My recommendation is always :
      If most of your rides are one hour or less, stick with the standard seat. It is nice and soft and is comfortable for about an hour.
      If most of your rides are longer than one hour, go for the touring seat. It is not as soft nor as comfortable as the standard seat for the first hour but it is a lot more comfortable than the standard seat once you ride beyond one hour.
      As long as your back pain isn't being caused by the lack of rear suspension on the Meteor ( a bit of a problem for a lot of people ) but is being caused by the seat, then yes, you should definitely try the touring seat because it will offer more support than the standard seat.
      Cheers buddy,
