Hello there -- thank you for your question. In order to make the S-Corporation election, a business entity (ex. LLC, corporation, etc.) must first be formed. A sole proprietor (Schedule C filer) cannot make the S-Corporation election.

I received a letter in the mail a couple weeks ago. I was working for a company that would send me to different places to do work. I had NOOOO Idea I needed a business license. I thought I was working for this woman’s company the whole time. I gave her my social, she gave me a 1099 and I filed taxes!! then I get this letter and I’m like, wth! I don’t own a business and I’ve never done any work from home! Why am I getting this. 😭 now Im here watching this video trying to understand what this letter means!!!! Thank you for sharing it!!

This exact scenario happened to me, I received a letter in the mail explaining I owe 3 years in back business tax and it said final notice. But this was the first time being noticed, is there anyway to get rid of the late fees ? What about about covid year, 2021 I didn’t work, They are charging me for 2020, 2021 and 2022. A total of $562.81 with interest / penalty included
Your fines could be larger if you haven't done anything about it and take into account the extra year. I think this is quite unfair for the Office of Finance, their letters are intimidating. Has anyone successfully waived the fees? If you have not paid your dues, you are not eligible to waive any fees. And if you haven't done anything, anticipate having your dues increased by 100%.
What about this. A business operates in LA CIty and pays the taxes based on their gross receipts. They then pay independent contractors who also have to pay the city tax on their gross income. The city gets to tax the same income twice!
I'm a self construccion worker working for a construction company I get pay by the hour employer give me a 1099 I do my tax together with my wife I receive a letter from LA county that y need to fill a form AB63 for business activity please advice me

Hello Elmer -- thank you for your question! The LA City Business Tax applies only to business conducted within the LA City limits -- NOT LA County.
