Mechanical systems are so much easier to understand than modern electronic controllers.

hi pete this was a good one. it shows how simple things were back then. the ride you showed is called king frolic, you can make different tub that are heart shaped and have 2 theams. i was looking at one in fl. but bought 2 trains instead. and your right soon they will be scrap. i like fixing up the old (junk) stuff. steve

Yes another King ride. One of the larger 8 car frolics. I've seen a lot of 5 car versions but there don't seem to be as many 8 car Frolics. I just don't see a practical way to get it moved economically. Thanks for your continued support!

What a awesome gadget to make lights look like they are chasing…. Thanks Pete for the update and I hope all goes well with that other carnival ride…

I have always been amazed at how ingenious yet simple the three point chaser really is. Another great video.

It's really nice to see how robust this thing is build. That's something else than the modern electronic version.
Over here we call it a "running light".

Yes those contacts are rated at 10 amps a piece. Since they are intended for lights I’m assuming that is resistive load rating. although they are occasionally used on the incoming primary side of neon transformers for animated signs. The same company makes a similar product to switch the high voltage side of neon. Those are fun to watch because it’s just a continuous circling electrical arc.

I got a chaser switch like that one from sign that had been cut down and abandoned by a failed business.

Nicely done Pete! ...Please consider getting that old ride in Hot Springs, AR. It looks like a longer project but I am an old carnie from the 80's and I am thoroughly enjoying your amusement ride restorations!Keep up the great work!

Transportation on that one is the expensive part.. especially now. I'd love to work on it but I can't see a way at the moment to make it work financially.

Thanks for stopping by! Coincidentally I received some TE40 cabochons from you a couple weeks ago that will be used on this project.. I'll be showing them in an upcoming video.

you should modify this chaser to be 4 point you would have a chance to make the colors the same on the 2 rides that you have also any update on the one ride that you mentioned that's in a field.

    Interesting renovation.
Was that ride in Arkansas a King Frolic?
I found one at a small town carnival and was a treat to ride (over and over). The carnival had a few classic rides that was fun to ride with my daughter.

Yes, it was an 8 tub trailer mounted King Frolic. There are lots of 5 tub ones around but that is the only 8 tub one I've seen that was trailer mounted.

Painful to know some pieces of industrial history might get lost...aint it! Know the feeling. Nice vid Pete.

it sure is. but it is nice to have people like pete here on yt showing their historycal pieces. do you know if there were eny king rides in europe?

    • @PeteRondeau
      @PeteRondeau  2 роки тому

I actually don't know. Due to the low cost generic nature of King rides, I would think that it would have been cheaper for a European firm to create something similar rather than paying for shipping. There may be some folks on here with a bit more knowledge on that than me though.

What do you think you’ll get when you have steel and aluminum in contact?

Hello pete.i live in Arkansas and have seen that exact king frolic ride/inspected it to the best of my ability and have information and more photos if you would like to discuss in further detail

I'd love to hear more. I've received some pics of it and to me it looks like the trailer frame is bent. Looks low in the center. You can email me at the address at the bottom of the video description if you like.

Yup, I got it thank you very much. I could have sworn I sent a reply. My email seems to end up in the spam folder half of the time. I'll go double check that I didn't forget to hit send (I do that the other half of the time)
