In Novel Madhurantakan and Nandhini are twins. I don't know whether you have read Ponniyin Selvan or not , But There are thousands of readers who cherish it so think before calling it 'silly' and if it's silly then Nandhini , a fictional character, pen daughter of Kalki Ayya is more than sillt

Ponniyin selvan is semi fictional story but maniratnam adapted climax from real incident but in book the climax was total different and then there he adapted the climax from another book called "Udaiyaar" which is real story of chola which were written by Great Writer Bala Kumaran.

as per history, the people belonging to pazuvathur Bhramin community killed Karikalla Cholan as they were bribed by the Pandiyas. For this reason they entire community was banished from the whole Chola Kingdom and they took refuge in Kerala and they are later known as the Nambudris. In order to not to create any anti-bhramin problems, Manirathnam changed the murderer in the movie. Instead a Bhramin was shown as a spy who was always helping the Cholas. All this was done to avoid with good intention of avoiding caste based violence only and nothing else.
In the real story, arulmozhi was a small boy, so madurathangan became king and he tried to imprison kundavai and arulmozhi, so kundavai fled the city with her brother and took shelter at various villages before settling in Karnataka where a group of Muslims protected her and her brother. In that gratitude, kundavi converted to Islam at her final years and her body is buried in a mosque near tiruchi. Thanks to our Muslim brothers without whom we would have never had this great empire
